  1. I've seen very few managers whose CV makes me think they can achieve that, tbf.
  2. Christ. If he turns out to be even half the player, then we're winning the cup and finishing fourth. Nailed on.
  3. Not gonna lie, the Dons thing is making me nervous. Jim's on the cusp of guiding us to our highest finish in a very long time. Fourth genuinely isn't out the question. I hope he'll see the appeal in pushing for that and becoming even more of a legend at out club.
  4. I actually don't think @RandomGuy. Is miles wide of the mark here; Grieve is Mullen-esque in some ways (workrate, pain in the arse) but seems to have a better instinct in the six-yard box. Plus he stays on his feet a million times better. RG really wasn't slagging him off: he was just saying he doesn't think he'll score that many. I guess we'll see on that front. For me, the fact he has Kiltie, Tanser and Jones operating behind him means he'll get plenty chances and, for once, those guys actually have someone getting into the right positions to aim for.
  5. Yep, you'd imagine it'd only take a portion of the wages that we were offering McGrath to get him on a longer deal. It's only been a few games but I think we've all seen enough from him: I'd like to see our club speculate a little more from time to time.
  6. McCarthy and Tanser back in contention, and Brophy back soon-ish too. Here's hoping Rangers and Celtic draw each other in the next round: nobody else will fancy playing us.
  7. Getting ridiculed by League 2 (Two) opposition just isn't for everyone, I guess.
  8. Confirmed. Full strength. Love to see it. All respect being paid.
  9. He's only a couple weeks in, but I can safely say whoever we get will be a downgrade, tbf.
  10. Disagree with that. As @sergie's no1 fan points out, most notably in the Livi SF, our midfield was completely missing and we were utterly bossed by Bartley in particular, who was my MotM on the day. It was painful how much we lacked a guy like that in the middle. It's hard to say it would have changed the result, but with the signings of Power and Gogic it's safe to say Jim has learned from those games.
  11. All clubs of our size will lose good players - it's going to be basically a revolving door, losing the best guys after 1-2 seasons. As St Johnstone have found, and we did to a lesser extent this summer, you need to be on the front foot almost constantly to ensure you're proactively replacing these guys. We failed to replace Connolly and Durmus, and hoped that sticking with our 3-5-2 would paper over the cracks. We have just about got away with having one flawed transfer window, and at least we've made amends with Jones, Greive and Gogic. As Lex says, we are safe now and I would imagine we're starting to line up replacements for the guys who'll be away.
  12. Yeah, this. I guess at least the guy's been honest from the outset and you can't fault his reasons. But I pretty much had my heart set on seeing him strolling about our midfield for the next three seasons. And yeah, maybe we could get JJ back on loan again, but he really is a cut above and there would be a lot of competition. Watching him against St Johnstone I kept finding myself amazed that we'd got him, tbh.
  13. He did indeed. Weird game, against the context of us being absolutely tragically shite that season. It was NYC's first ever match; hard to look back on it fondly given how generally awful we were.
  14. Dorman. Simple. Jamie McGrath is a good player, but Dorman scored goals that will be shown and watched for decades.
  15. To be fair, Alex Greive has barely played any pro football until two weeks ago, but has managed not to look absolutely gash.
  16. Jones: pler. Greive: pler. Gogic: fucking PLER. Top six with a game in hand. I like this squad: if we don't finish top half it's a travesty, tbh. Oh and those fucking carthorses in the St Johnstone defence need putting out their misery. All of them.
  17. The ref is absolutely shite. Never a penalty for us - you love to see it - and he's spent half the game just guessing at decisions. At least three times he's got clear throw-in decisions wrong. Obviously inconsequential compared to the penalty, but still. JJ is class, btw. Got his full back on toast. At least three times he's had nothing to aim at though and has had to wait/cut back.
  18. Bit of intrigue with McPherson coming in against us now. Plenty Saints fans felt strongly that we should have kept him. They were wrong, but they felt strongly. He doesn't get anywhere near our current midfield so will be interesting to see how he performs. He must by pumped for this game and will surely resent being farmed out to the footballing wilderness. Could be dangerous.
  19. I like that line up. Henderson probably unlucky to miss out but I'd say he's a good option from the bench. Felt Hibs really targeted Tait at the weekend so will be interesting to see if the Saintees do the same.
