  1. My first Scotland game was Scotland 1 - Greece 0 in '95 Ally McCoist header to seal qualification. I still can vaguely remember the goal, and just the experience of being at Hampden for the first time as a nine year old. https://youtu.be/5gXPK0sxvLM
  2. Since he blew up for the foul before ball went out of play, the games dead at that point and I believe can only be re-started via a drop-ball. That's my understanding, not that I have read any of the rules ofcourse...
  3. You were right here. I had my doubts about him, thought he would have shat it, but he played brilliantly. That tackle in the box, last ten minutes had me shitting myself, but he timed it to perfection. Between him and Hendry for man of the match.
  4. Things to add to the "Petty things that get on your nerves thread".
  5. Good news, I think this will be a game well suited to Adams, maybe us playing on the counter attack a bit. A downside to his game though is hold-up play, really just plays the channels a bit, but anyway him being fit is at least a good bit better than having him out.
  6. We can't be too respectful of Ukraine, we're at the same level on the basis that we're in the same Nations League group. We should be going into this with a confidence that we can beat them.
  7. Got my tickets for the Play-offs. TICKETS HERE Let's hope there is a good attendance, free for Supports Club members, and I picked up a kids ticket for my daughter for a fiver.
  8. I find the discussion of Republic vs. Monarchy very interesting, but what no one can explain with a Republic is how to protect against Populist factions, which can cause mayhem with most Republics. Or to protect against a lunatic President (like Trump). Constitutional Monarchies work, by theoretically having parliament accountable to a Monarch through various conventions, oaths etc. Some of the most stable democracies and highest GDP economies in the world are Constitutional Monarchies. Britain (plus Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc), Denmark, Norway, Holland, Belgium, and Sweden are all good examples. There is clearly room for improvement in terms of how the House of Commons is elected (Proportional representation should be advanced), and the House of Lords requires reform, but this should all be within the framework of a Constitutional Monarch. As we move forward though, I think it's important from any government to review the role of Monarchy, whether that be Westminster or Holyrood, and I think any future vote on Independence, the any party taking part should clearly state in it's manifesto it's long term strategy on the Monarchy.
  9. There is definitely a case of that too. Maybe not the best of comparisons, but I went to see them play Roma, and thought they were well off the pace. Some of the players that used to bully teams (I am thinking Shine and Lauder in particular), seem to be struggling and wouldn't get into Rangers or Celtic teams. Only player I think would improve Rangers or Celtic is Jenna Clark, think she could be decent player if coached right.
  10. City certainly haven't been steamrolling teams like they have done in the past... good to see!
  11. Fantastic result. Worrying about Hill, she's been solid so far this season, and seems a step up from Westrup so far.
  12. I was at the game to, even though City gave an good showing, Roma were a couple of levels above I thought and were comfortable throughout.
  13. Only two games in, but I am loving the attitude from the Rangers players. There was a hunger to just keep on scoring goals, and with such a competitive squad, with a bench that strong, the intensity didn't really let up. Big test on Thursday in the CL. Anyone know where the game can be watched? I am going to the City vs. Roma match, but will try to have the Rangers game on my phone at the same time.
  14. It's fantastic, and proof for me against the naysayers... if you give minority sports, or the like a platform and room to grow, then people will engage. The growth of the women's game in general and looking at Scotland in particular, it's a massive upward trend. If you think in just about three years, Rangers have went from crowds of about 30 at New Tinto Park (where it was hit or miss them even taking gate money) to 720 at Broadwood, it's incredible. First picture is from Sunday there, other one was against Hibs in early 2019. Such a growth area, and something the top premiership teams should start embracing more
  15. Kirsten Reilly and Chloe Arthur joined Crystal Palace. Will be interesting to see how Reilly does down there, she didn't last long at Bristol City, but she is a good player. https://www.cpfc.co.uk/news/women/crystal-palace-women-announce-22-23-squad-with-15-additions/2022-08-04/
  16. I was at the Rangers game for the 1st game on my season ticket with my daughter. Fantastic attendance of 720 for the game, I was expecting maybe 300 tops, so to have double my expectation was incredible. In terms of the game itself, it went the way I thought it would. It's something that expanding the league would bring, with a professional team against amateurs, it wasn't a credible game (which is not me criticizing the Glasgow players). Standout player was Maclean for Rangers, almost everything went through her, and was a fantastic performance. On the other games, I was expecting both City and Celtic wins, but Celtic hammering Hibs like that was not expected.
  17. Rangers announced Kathryn Hill as captain after Brianna Westrup departure. I am sure she will be a great captain as is a big supporter of the club, but I am a bit surprised at that, Nicola Doherty was vice-captain last year, so thought she might have been given the armband considering she was consistently a high performer..
  18. Rangers moving to Broadwood this season and offering season tickets. Got myself and my daughter one, looking forward to this season!
  19. We played remarkably well in the second half considering it's at the end of such a long season, a disappointing international campaign and in the Armenian heat.
  20. Can't blame him for 2 out of the 3 Ireland goals, and anyone saying otherwise is wrong. Maybe the 3rd he will be disappointed. 1) Can't balme him for 2 out of 3 CBs attacking the same ball and making an arse of it then the 3rd CB missing the 2nd ball. 2) Can't blame him for the RB not tracking the runner. 3) Maybe a bit of blame, but there was enough movement on that ball to cause most goalies some trouble. Though, I bet he'll be gutted not to have saved it.
  21. It's a telling statement - Rangers under Gerard were like that, and Tavernier used to come out and say something similar. It's been clear the past three games, that the two teams that pressed us got a lot of success. We have the players playing at the level where they should be able to play out of tight, high press situations. So would point to a panic, or mindset problem, which Clarke alludes to.
  22. Not been on the thread since the game, so not sure of the chat so far, but my tuppence is: Ireland looked well up for it and pressed us, doubled teamed us and just generally played like they wanted to win it. We need as a real forward with presence up front, who can hold onto the ball. Adams plays the channels and is always looking to get on the end of through balls. We need someone who can take the ball under pressure and allow midfielder/wingers to get up and into the game. I feel Robertson needs Tierney, when they play together on the left side, over lapping, under cutting, covering each others runs etc, we can be really effective. McTominay and Gilmour look out of confidence, and struggled to make any impact. I think some see our CBs as one of our strongest areas, but I think they are all bombscares, all liable to give away possession, lose concentration and lose their attacker. Hopefully, Souttar get's up to fitness, and if we're playing a 3/5 at the back, then him plus maybe McKenna/Hanley/Hendry could form a more solid basis. Clarke, deserves his chance to get us to play out of this for this campaign, but we looked devoid of ideas, and since the Denmark game, our play and results has taken a marked regression.
