  1. Royal Albert's Robert Smillie Park lasted until maybe 10 years ago, although the stand was long gone by then. Found some footage from the 90s from there - I was only there a couple of times, and the only thing I really remember about it was that it was one of those grounds where you always seemed to be miles away from the game on account of the track around it.
  2. They were a league club as late as 1926, where they finished 7th in Division 2!
  3. There's quite a few that lay claim to being the oldest, although some haven't played in the Juniors the whole time, were continuations of other clubs or had gaps of a few years where they weren't active. Most clubs' records from that far back are a bit sketchy to say the least. To illustrate this, I was talking to the Ants' club historian who had found out recently that they were actually formed two years later than anybody thought.
  4. Harthill took over Polkemmet's old park when they joined the Juniors. ETA - Polkemmet went bust in '88, Harthill joined in '92. Park used to be called something else other than Gibbshill Park AFAIK.
  5. Iceland too - there's none of this "we like the name Versace" pish. There you get a list of a couple of thousand names and get telt to pick one of them. If you insist on calling junior Diesel fair play, but he won't get a passport. Found an article about a recent case involving an English guy (called Tristan... ) moaning about how he's just cottoned on to this. His wean's 10, so on the ball there... http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jun/26/iceland-strict-naming-convention-cardew-family
  6. Ah, young Indiana Jones. After the TV show no doubt.
  7. The neddy non-names are horrific, but I’ve never understood the correlation between how posh you are and how likely you are to be landed with a dog’s name; Rex, Toby etc.
  8. Best of it is you don't need to change trains - providing the train calls at all the stages you've bought tickets to you can travel straight through. Pain in the arse to walk about with a stack of tickets like a deck of cards, but if you're travelling on the day you're buying them it works out a fucksight cheaper.
  9. One of the guys at Partick station tipped me off about "staging" long journeys - Glasgow to Dundee, for instance: Glasgow - Dundee £41.70, but Glasgow - Stirling £8.00 Stirling - Perth £8.10 Perth - Dundee £8.30 Total £24.40 Go figure.
  10. http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/north-korean-leader-kim-jong-un-had-ankle-surgery-report-says/2014/09/29/8973b009-5e5e-4001-b595-f677dd316de1_story.html Fat enough that the effort of walking broke both his ankles apparently. That's documentary fat.
  11. The Hollyoaks cast were up at our park a few years ago for a charity game. Still not sure who was actually in the show and who were just hangers on - just nondescript shite at football wee guys. Thought they might have had the decency to drag a few of the burds up for the day, but no luck on that front.
  12. Never seen that before - the Bengals have always been good for at least a couple of DUIs/getting caught with recreationals every year.
  13. S'alright, you're not alone - there's a lot of people who won't be using Asda again. All over Scotland.
  14. That mile or so with nothing but B&Bs seems a lot longer than it actually is.
  15. Once stopped off in Husband's Bosworth - English punters don't find anything funny about it though, 'cos it only works in a Scottish accent.
  16. The ones that look like real cigarettes are okay, but there seems to be an element of competition these days as to who can find the biggest, most ornate shisha type affair, resulting in groups of people standing outside buildings puffing away on what look like robot boabys.
  17. Square for me. I always though of Lorne as being it in its unsliced state - the big slab type thing. Slice, just no.
  18. It doesn't help that my current boss is one of these ones who thinks "facetime" is important and volunteers us to sit in at the opening of an envelope, which normally means sitting as near the back as we can manage sullenly not contributing to the pish which ensues, while maintaining expressions of incredulous contempt.
  19. "Deep dive" seems to have replaced "blue sky" in our work to describe projects that are wishful thinking.
  20. Can’t believe there are some punters complaining about the lack of greatest hits a la Wuthering Heights in the set (Metro this morning). Can only assume they’re bandwagon jumpers who bought The Whole Story and reckon that’s all there is to KB. Reckon most people who have followed her career would have sussed she was only ever going to play live again completely on her own terms which seems to have been the case, and not as a human jukebox. Really hope one of the shows is taped for DVD release.
  21. Blast from the past. Wonder what the next form of tramp juice to get an image makeover will be? Maybe Lanliq, with an advertising campaign along the lines of "Don't be a fanny - ask for Lannie"
