It's a cop-out. Why not force them to play all their games before Christmas? Or between November and March? A club of that size would have no problem playing 3 games in a week. It is effectively no punishment whatsoever.

But it is unneccesary. Regardless of whether it is worse for Rangers, it is still an inconvenience to the other 11. It still means midweek matches when they are unneccessary, and an imbalance in the fixtures with games in hand etc. It also requires the first 33 fixtures to be shoehorned in before the split, otherwise the fixtures could be a total nightmare to arrange. Someone smarter than me will also no doubt be able to provide crowd figures for midweek matches and a comparison to weekend games. How many fans will travel to Glasgow from Dingwall/Inverness/Aberdeen on a midweek night in February just to help out Rangers? Even their own fans from those places won't bother.

I might be getting whooshed by the rulebook, but here goes! Surely if Rangers SFA membership is suspended, they can't play in the SPL or SFL, or the Scottish Cup. Without a pyramid system in place, there is no way for them to re-enter the leagues, other than another team dropping out and them winning the application process, which isn't guaranteed (although we all know it probably is!) So suspension would lead to either a pyramid system with Rangers re-entering right at the bottom, or the destruction of Rangers. I'd be happy with either outcome, although option 2 is still preferable!
