  1. Gutted if this is off. I don't know why, but I assumed you lads had a plastic pitch. Stormy shitey weather is going to be the norm going forward, so we either accept fixture congestion (we'll finish outside the playoffs if we have to play a game every few days fir a couple of months) or we stop being such big babies about plastic pitches. Still hope this is on. You lads have been picking up a bit of form lately and we don't lose to teams not named Arbroath. Should be a cracker. E.T.A. just read the post above. Arse.
  2. This is good news. I'll take the bus out to the shire tomorrow then. My point is that this is just typical weather for A'deen and shire for this time of year. Not worth getting our salopettes (sp?) in a twist.
  3. Started off with massive snowflakes falling here (Torry, AB11) which had me all excited about getting my skis oot later. After about an hour of that we now just have pishy rain. The hype around the weather does seem to be consistent with the rolling news agenda of getting us all to be on a heightened state of alert so that we keep watching it to find out more. Today I can report that it's February in the NE of Scotland. Put a jacket on.
  4. Once saw a running battle between Jags and Airdrionians fans in about 2001 after a 2-1 defeat (Owen b*****ding Coyle with a late winner) going down Maryhill Road. There was a bit of a Section B revival that season with some scenes at Somerset on the last day after losing the title and their club. Get it jolly well round them.
  5. No messing with my luscious long hair and you're on. Nice excuse to stay out the pub too.
  6. I get that. My initial point is that the meaning you attach to the SPL was a separate entity that is now, as you say, deid. For the people who still refer to it as that, it's just the top tier in Scotland. Honestly, I still refer to it as the SPL because it's easier and folk know that I mean the top tier. Language should be efficient. Anyone seeking to correct me will be seen as consenting to Ruel St based fisticuffs
  7. I agree it can seem that way, but if people have cemented an association in their heads, it's hard to dislodge. It's just how the mind works. Just because some wee w**k in a suit decided that the name should change doesn't mean we all need to conform to that. If most fans still refer to it as the SPL then that's it's name. The same if some other wee w**k in a suit decided that the stadium in Maryhill is now the "energy check" stadium. Actually, maybe it's fine for the top tier to have a few names for the same thing. Celtic's stadium is referred to as both Parkhead and Celtic Park, and St Mirren used to play at Love Street and St Mirren Park.
  8. Getting all snobby and technical about league nomenclature may be rewarding for some, but it ignores some basic truths. SPL slips off the tongue easily, is memorable and when people say "SPL" they're describing the top league in Scotland. We know it isn't a separate entity anymore, but SPFL Premiership doesn't stick as easily in the mind. The constant "deadnaming" (if I may) of the top tier is due to Scottish football fans having taken ownership of the previous name as meaning the top tier (divorced from the politics of its genesis) and of the new name being both clumsy and having a less powerful relationship to the top tier as the more snappy "SPL".
  9. Just had a look at the highlights and I felt that was a harsh red. I thought it had to be deliberate to be a sending off, and not just the denial of a clear goal scoring opportunity? The United lad nicks the ball as the defender is about to play it. There's also a covering defender. Very strange. Good to see big Ron like that. Passionate, determined and celebrating a goal organically. @accies1874 what was the beef with McTam?
  10. Rangers didn't benefit from playoffs though. The only time they needed playoffs resulted in what was for many a defining moment of their banter years. So yes it was a coincidence. No it didn't help Rangers. As Craigkillie says, it doesn't make sense that a club with 50 odd thousand supporters would need it, especially in the seaside leagues.
  11. It wouldn't stop PCAs like Souttar's, but it would prevent the utterly daft situation of talent hoovering of which the OF are routinely guilty. I don't want the OF to leave and join some Frankenstein European Diddy League, they would only keep poaching players to use in inflated squads (a la EPL teams). I want the rest to break away from the OF. Create a new top league with equitable voting and TV revenue. We do need radical solutions to create genuine competition and excitement. The McLeish report was a very good start, but anything that doesn't tackle the vast gulf in wealth and therefore competitiveness is just deckchair rearrangement.
  12. The post earlier referred to aerial battles won, so I was wondering how he does against teams who play the ball on the deck more. I don't remember him being noticeably good on the ball at Aberdeen and I disagree that he would easily slot into our defence. I reckon he's a squad player at best, and a significant downgrade on Hanley. You've obviously seen him more than I so I'm happy to be wrong here and perhaps he has improved since moving to Forest.
  13. I'm basically going to be spending the next 37 days hoping that 1. A'body remains injury free 2. Patterson gets a few games And also reminding myself that this isn't the gimme that my heart says it is (I've been dreaming up 4 or 5-0 in my head). It must be a bit stressful living in Ukraine right now though. Hopefully Russia and the yanks can be a decent bunch of lads as I've paid for two games against this lot.
  14. How does he do against footballing sides though? I remember how much of a donkey he looked against Croatia. I do hope he comes good tbf, but he's not enough of a footballer to be anywhere near the first team right now.
  15. You're thinking of Darren and Derek Young.
  16. Cheers for this. I am curious, as I was at the time, about a lack of concerted effort to save the club from the fans. I understand that it was perhaps too big a task, but I think had there been an attempt at fundraising that ultimately failed then the myth that "you let your club die" would have had less substance to it. Football fans are primarily emotional rather than rational (exhibit A, Partick Thistle have fans) and I would have expected a big fundraising effort to be part of the "bargaining" phase of this particular grief. That there wasn't one I found to be quite curious. Am I talking shite though and just not remembering any?
  17. Obviously context is important and sometimes we're clearly expressing our opinions, but I also think that ownership is important too. It is only three words, and if it's that much of an issue then perhaps your expressing your opinion a bit too often and could do with developing a more open mind . In my experience people expressing their opinions as facts tend to be doing so to take control of the framing of a particular issue. In my opinion, of course.
  18. See also "X or y is hugely overrated". Nope, it's popular and you don't like it. Presenting opinions as facts irks me.
  19. I'd like to hear more about why Ross is a good choice. It does seem he was popular with the players, but Hibs were poor latterly under him. It surely needs to be Goodwin. A charismatic guy who has his team playing above themselves right now. I mean that respectfully as they've started with a lot of younger lads with little experience. It does seem that the big problem isn't the manager but Cormack and whomever was in charge of recruitment. I hope you get the scandy boy that jagfox mentioned, especially if he is fond of a statistics metaphor or two.
  20. Just finished watching "homecoming" and the first series was wonderfully done. The second was thrilling too, but suffered mainly for Janelle Monae not being Julia Roberts. Roberts in the first series is just magnetic. A truly great actress. If you liked Mr Robot, and I did, then give this a go. The episodes are pretty short too. A pttgomn with prime is how hard it is to find the thing I've been watching. Netflix has the "continue watching" thing as iPlayer also has. With prime I have to go scrolling through to find it. Really shite interface.
  21. Ach Wales are a different team at home. I'm still bemused and pissed off that the ref sent Russel off. The TMO is looking at that repeatedly. He's already decided that Russel should go, as if you're keeping a genuinely open mind you can't conclude that Russel has deliberately knocked that on. Imo that's the decision that's cost us the game. I don't think we lose if Finn Russel and the big number 12 are still on the pitch. Wales played very, very well and learned from a lot of their mistakes they made last time out. We had a few handling errors and weren't particularly patient in defence, which is unlike us. Russel's kicking was rubbish today.
