I'd say Rae deserves some (I stress only 'some') credit for keeping us up the season he came in. He probably put a rocket up a few players' arses. Your point about Goodwin is correct though, I'd add Thompson to that too. These were good experienced players who should've been kept on for another year. It seemed like he wanted to put a marker to show who was in charge. He then replaced them with dug shite like Kyle Hutton. Stubbs was an absolute riot though. I'd slightly disagree with none of the players being adequate quality. Alfie Jones was ok. Willock was a big let down but at least had some pedigree and flashes that he might be a player. Cody Cooke tried hard and wasn't totally shite. Other than that though, you'd have been as well with me filling some of those slots. There's been a few examples of managers from outside Scotland really underestimating the standard of football. But with Stubbs there should've been no excuse. He'd been both a player and a manager here. Stubbs and Rae were similar in the fact that it looked like they wanted to show who was in charge, get rid of players who'd done well for us, who were popular with the fans. If you then replace these players with absolute shite, you won't last long.

I'd keep McAllister for the simple reason that he has something a bit different to the rest of the squad. He's hot and cold (definitely more cold recently) but I can't think of another player we have that, on his day, can beat players and carve open chances. Erwin, Dennis, Main (although, as said, he's on a 2 year deal) can all leave. I'd bring back Jamieson from Inverness to replace them if we can't get anyone else in. McGrath could well go if the money is right.

Is Main not on a 2 year deal? Someone would have to offer him a decent deal to move. I'd be surprised if he goes.

Rangers are a good side, I'm not going to be disappointed if we get beat here, but at least make them work for it. The defending at both goals was pathetic.

I got the impression from Goodwin's interview that it was the league that said they couldn't come back, rather than the club making a financial decision.

What got me with that was the fact that the league changed the rules on bringing back loan players, but only for the boys in the lowland league. We weren't allowed to recall Lewis Jamieson from ICT, who would've almost certainly started if he'd been back, Daniel Finlayson from Kelty, or Cammy Macpherson (although I think he's injured) from St Johnstone. Seemed like they were making the rules up as they went along.

Aye, I agree. I don't think any of them are up to it. I have some sympathy with Main, he was very isolated up on his own but he wasn't even able to make a nuisance of himself. McGregor cruised it against him.

Yeah, they weren't great and I'm happy we salvaged something. Feel it papers over the cracks a bit. Shaughnessy and Alnwick played well but other than that. Reckon we need a few decent players in in January.
