A key factor with Diana was that she already in the news at the time. The tabloids were all into the Diana and Dodi story and every day it was "what are they up to now?" Then, all of a sudden they were dead. It was like killing off a main character in a TV show. 2019 was the Brexit election. Millions of people were getting sick of seeing it always in the news and nobody talking about anything else. Labour had a confused approach on this matter that did not appeal to either side while Johnson claimed he would get it done regardless of the complications. Thankfully Brexit is no longer dominating the headlines so he must have got that right.
