  1. The 2011 referendum wasn't much of anything. It kept FPTP but changed the rules a wee bit.
  2. I spent 5 months as an exchange student at Uppsala in Sweden. Instead of a student union there were (I think) 13 student Nations. Each represented a part of Sweden and these were the only places you could drink without going bankrupt. It was £4 a pint in 1999 - about twice what it was in Scotland at the time. I was a member of the Östgöta Nation. It had a great pub in the lower floor, and a ballroom upstairs. # However, I soon learned that it was a wee bit upmarket. More emphasis on formal dinners than pub drinking, so I spent most of my time at the Norrlands Nation. Far more of a party/drinking atmosphere there. Often live music and served great food at Orvar's.
  3. Yeah, they had a guy on (not sure who) whose job was to make the pro-independence argument. He started on the shared assets/shared liabilities line when some other talking head interrupted him with "What currency will you use?" as he was sounding far too measured and sensible.
  4. Linda from Kent wants the rest of the UK to have a vote to expel Scotland from the Union.
  5. Channel surfing and on Channel 5 now is a show called Storm Huntley. It's a phone in show and today's topic is Scottish independence. Geoffrey from the Isle of Man cannot understand why Scots don't just accept the result of the 2014 referendum and stop talking about it.
  6. DIY stuff is a good shout. The shelf that collapsed in Scott's room last night was put up by me. I am useless at it. Last weekend my mum asked me to move an old desk out into her garage. As I lifted it up it fell to pieces. Absolutely fell to bits. "Oh, your dad built that" my mum said by way of explanation. I get my skills from him.
  7. All my old haunts in Alloa have gone. I spent a fair chunk of 1997-2000 in Tree Tops. Usually a good DJ, al my mates there. Good atmosphere. It's now a bike shop, I think. When I got older I would go to the Claremont Lodge hotel, and would sit with my mates talking and drinking. Still a hotel I think but with a new name and all renovated. Then the other place - the Leisure Bowl. Met the wife there. Where they had snooker and pool tables. Where they put UV lights in the toilets so that junkies couldn't see their veins and shoot up. Always had sport on the TV and comfortable couches. Now knocked down. My brother was a regular at the Primrose Bar (aka The Prim). It's had a renovation and now goes under the pseudonym McGregors.
  8. 10 years ago now. https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/tam-cowan-fir-park-should-2314034
  9. Quite possibly the worst song ever written by the guy that brought us hits like Desperado, Tequila Sunrise and Hotel California. Prepare yer ears.
  10. I missed this completely! I'm hoping they were outed, tarred and feathered.
  11. This is why we need PR. Tories come in and govern for long stretches with 35-40% of the vote, inflicting years if hardship on the majority of people. Then Labour come in and are like kids in a sweetie shop, they never want to share power so they keep the system as it is. They feel their short stretches in government make up for it. It doesn't. PR would keep the lunatic fringes out of power; FPTP has kept them in power. Steve Baker was a government minister FFS! I'm 44. Tories have been in power for 31 of those 44 years. So I'm not at all excited at the prospect of a Labour government that will last 5-10 years only to be replaced by the Tories for the next 15.
  12. Is this a genuine comment, or a request for a Kenneth? I can't tell.
  13. What a weird night. First, our power cuts off twice. No fuses tripped and the neighbours power stayed on throughout. The, Scott's shelf that is covered in lego and has been up for about 2 years collapsed 10 minutes ago. Imagine the sound of a ton of coal being dumped onto a conservatory roof and you get the idea. Must be ghosts.
  14. Saw it at the cinema with Scott. Great fun but we did laugh (as did everyone else) at the window scene.
  15. On a completely unrelated manner, I'm collecting photos of prominent posters I like and admire. I'll start with you, can you PM me a photo?
  16. The usual. Internal combustion engine. Gears. Wheels.
  17. An advert for erectile dysfunction tablets was just on TV. "effective for 36 hours"
  18. There is an online company that can print photos onto bog roll. Never considered Douglas Ross before, not a bad shout.
