  1. Network Rail will continue to do this every time due to the fatal crash in Aberdeenshire in 2020 after similar weather. They do not want liability like that ever again. Whether I agree or not is pretty irrelevant as it won't change that viewpoint, they will be totally risk averse from here on out.
  2. Job done. 2 up inside an hour on a pretty dreadful night for football, on a poor artificial surface. Clyde were very well organised and stuffy. You can see why folk are talking up their survival chances as they look fine defensively. If they can add something going forward, they will be fine.
  3. Depressingly I turn 32 in April and there's no Scottish Cup wins on my record. I'd have to be 34 for it to have even been won in my lifetime.
  4. 31, 32 in April. My early years watching football coincided with Ferguson's better first spell at Rangers (I was a very early football addict, the product of a solid upbringing from two football mad parents). That England game at Wembley in 1999 is still pretty clear in my head, we played them off the park and Ferguson put on his best performance in Scotland blue. That we contrived not to win the tie after that night is quite astonishing. BTW not even close to the most Sportsound question these days. You've not asked about VAR, what's happening at "Ibrix", my thoughts on "Mick" Beale or anything about Rangers or Celtic. You're definitely not getting the gig post Kenny Mac (let's hope post Kenny Mac happens soon)!
  5. It's down to personal preference really isn't it because Ferguson and McGregor were and are both unquestionably talented footballers. It's who we think better suits the current team. Frankly, it is great to see a healthier debate on here than the weekly VAR dirge that Sportsound rolls out.
  6. I also think the fact this level of debate is raging on shows Tam Cowan was talking shite, in that Ferguson may not start for Scotland currently. He may well do but this level of debate shows it is not a foregone conclusion. Mind you, it does fit the petty and ill informed motto of the show in giving a debatable opinion. And it's a far better talking point than his shite cultural references from the days of yore.
  7. It's an entirely logical conclusion to reach. Ferguson's talent is not in question nor would I question him playing in inferior Scotland teams. However McGregor (that's who Ferguson is most like) has delivered more for Scotland. Additionally, you have to look at the balance of the midfield. In my view, McGregor is a better balance to McTominay (able to sit and release McTominay), Gilmour (can go box to box with Gilmour sitting) and Jack (see Gilmour) as well as bringing the left foot balance to the right footed players in the middle of the park. I think it is logical to look at the squad we have now and say who has delivered more for Scotland and who brings a better balance to our other midfielders.
  8. That's why all three would play in front of Ferguson. All three have consistently delivered more often for Scotland than Ferguson. I don't think there can be much debate that Barry Ferguson would make the squad in front of Lewis Ferguson or Ryan Jack for example but Ferguson did not achieve what McGregor, McTominay and McGinn have for Scotland. In my mind it would be Ferguson v McGregor. Who is more talented is absolutely up for debate but since 2020, it is hard to make an argument that McGregor has not been very good for Scotland.
  9. There's a reason I've been with my mate to one Caley Thistle game in the near four years I've lived in Inverness now. Eye bleeding game and yet I'm still watching.
  10. Fair point well made and I think there does need to be a real degree of pragmatism. The enthusiasm we have seen from Moray patients at my own work at the opportunity to come to Inverness for their operation over Aberdeen shows the opportunity for sensible sharing of services along the A96 corridor. It is the future for this area. DGH is a bit of a problem child, as the population of Moray justifies a hospital that offers more than Caithness or the Belford, but with Raigmore less than 40 miles away, a fuller service will never be achieved due to the small nature of the hospital and the lack of enough work for consultants, see your maternity service example. Despite the gripes of Douglas Ross about Moray needing the world at DGH, I agree that pragmatic solutions do need to be found, but I think that comes better with working with a more rural health board like Highland (yes Inverness is a small city but it isn't hugely urbanised) rather than Grampian where, naturally, a large degree of the population is urban based with the focus on the tertiary centre at ARI. Plus the geography makes sense too. Where we have an issue in Highland is attracting and retaining very skilled staff. While the Think High Think Highland campaign has worked well for certain staff grades, me and my wife are incomers to Highland like so many we work with, attracting consultants is brutally tough with not many willing to commit to living up here. The shared service idea with DGH may help but it doesn't overcome the geographical remoteness. Nor does it overcome the absolute kip that Raigmore Hospital is, which is hugely out of date and too small as it is for the population of Inverness, let alone the wider Highland area. Given the financial state of the board, that won't be replaced for at least another decade. Consultants wouldn't be rushing to work at Raigmore.
  11. I agree with this pretty much. Where I work is providing low complexity arthroplasty operations to patients from Highland, Grampian and Tayside as well as cataract patients from Grampian. Equality of access across the "North of Scotland" I.e. Grampian, Highland, Tayside and three island boards is already underway without the Labour proposal, so sharing of services is going to be the way forward. Whether people are in favour or not of the proposal from Labour, there are certain things that could be done far better on a Scotland wide basis in the NHS - an example being the numerous IT systems that don't talk to each other within boards let alone trying to navigate the systems of other boards which are different board to board. The fear that I would have is rural services. The example of Dr Gray's in Elgin already shows that when a bigger population centre like Aberdeen is involved, services are sucked in to that centre, naturally, which then comes at the detriment of rural areas. Someone in Aberdeen taking decisions for the population of Caithness and Kintyre is absolute madness. Highland already struggles with that let alone adding in Tayside and Grampian to that mix. I'd say there is a more pressing need to be looking at ways of freeing Consultants up with more theatre capacity to get waiting lists down and a huge improvement in the care services for older people to free up hospital beds. But Labour seem as blind as the SNP on that need, which is pretty grim. Eclectic rambling post above, sorry for that.
  12. I dare say that's the end for Robson with most fans. Hard to argue at this stage. Bottom six mediocrity beckons, which, given the depth of squad and the spending from the club on players, is pretty unacceptable.
  13. "But first, big news emerging from Aye-bricks thiz avdernoon" to be followed by an update that Clement had scrambled eggs for breakfast this morning. Vee Ayy Arr
  14. Of course Westminster was allowed to veto this law. That's devolution. Westminster can veto whatever it wants because it is the sovereign parliament. I will always be for independence but the above is a fact of life under devolution. No point wasting money challenging because f**k all will change. Humza and his government would be well advised to get on and legislate better in devolved areas to be competent rather than fighting lost causes. As dreadful as that sounds for the trans community who would have had way less trauma with the proposed legislation. Terrible that they are unfairly and unjustly caught in a constitutional fight through no fault of their own.
  15. Even if he did, I doubt McInnes would choose to work under Cormack, given their previous relationship wasn't exactly brilliant.
  16. And yet they are not pulling results out for him. Ultimately we know the bullet will come for the manager and the same group of players will rinse and repeat. It feels like change is needed but we are changing every winter, which is not a good sign at all.
  17. I dare say that may be Robson in a bit of bother. Rightly so as his run of results has been absolutely dreadful since the split last season. Can't really defend it. Alongside that, at some point, the players need to take some responsibility. They threw Goodwin under the bus last winter and they're about to do the same to Robson.
  18. Fair play to UEFA, teeing up the eventual champions of Euro 2024 against the hosts in the opening game. In all seriousness, mixed bag. Germany is the weakest pot 1 team but Hungary wasn't the best pot 2 outcome, albeit beatable. Similarly the Swiss from pot 4. Playing the opening game will be some laugh like, fair play.
  19. I also watched on appalled that it was a foul. My wife would testify to that. Thought it was a terrible decision. I then enjoyed the outcome of Turkey scoring because I'm petty.
  20. As someone who lives in Inverness, I find it absolutely remarkable (ok slightly saracastic) that Yousaf's government promised an update on dualling the A9 in the autumn, which has 4 days left, and there has not been a sniff of an update. If there was a way to lose voters, it's the way they've dealt with the A9. Constant delays and obfuscation.
  21. Simply put that is not a clear and obvious error to bring use of VAR into play. That is Andrew Dallas's opinion. Cheated out of two points.
  22. There's literally no more spawny a team in Europe than West England. They seem to have inherited the luck that Martin O'Neill's South Ireland had.
  23. I think we learned what we needed to tonight about who won't be on the plane to Germany in a perfect world. Safe to say Zander Clark, Greg Taylor and Jacob Brown have played their way out of contention for me. Worth experimenting tonight but also a real shame to not pick up any momentum.
