Jamie McGrath 9/2 to score any time, which based on what you've said about the ref, and the number of penalties we have been getting recently (hi Well fans, how's it going?) looks like a decent shout.

Who takes Hearts' penalties? Might be worth a double 😂

    Boyce.

Duncan also gave the penalty Alloa knocked us out the LC with last year, an award I'd describe as generous if I was being charitable

    Isn't history interesting?

Well I'll throw another piece into the gumbo - in 1965 when Killie won the league title on Goal Average we lost twice to them 2-0 & 4-0 while we beat your lot 2-1 & had a 0-0 draw in the other game - that's two titles we've denied Hearts.

I think Killie deserve a bit of the credit tbh

I imagine he will have wanted the longer deal due to the fact he will be taking a significant reduction on his wage as he was on something like 55k per week at Palace, same probably applies to Hart which in that respect possibly bodes well that they are both coming to Celtic to do well rather than line their pockets.

If McCarthy is fit he's a massive upgrade on Soro

    Is he ever fit?

  4. Tbh, the personnel wasn't really the issue with that night.  The same team, pretty much, had turned over Hibs and Rangers in the run up.  We just played like a bunch of fuds.

The midfield was absolutely dire in particular.

Not to say we haven't improved key areas of the team since right enough.

Then why is McGregor, who faced almost no shots last season, so high in the top flight one?

I've got xG per shot figures/goals conceded per shot/other metrics created, to try and account for different keepers facing different challenges. Been fucking about it for a few weeks and Gordon is literally always average based on last season.

Honestly some players just aren't liked on paper as its impossible to quantify what they bring through numbers, Gordon is probably one of those.

I'd suggest any combination of metrics that have Gordon below Ross Laidlaw necessitate the phrase 'back to the drawing board'

That's without the fact McGregor has somehow ended up behind Jak Alnwick

A keeper at the top team in the league will naturally have lower percentages in these percentiles due to their defence (And the keeper organising said defence) dealing with the simple stuff that weaker teams need their keepers to bail them out with. As it is, Gordon was fantastic last season and ke[t Hearts from going through a real bad sticky spell. His influence was evident when he was away on Scotland duty and that Ross Stewart guy came in for a couple of games..

Quite.  He also had to play behind an abysmal back line and made about 15 incredible saves through the season

My wee system has them ranked thusly last season, using only first choice keepers based on mins played, league only...

    1. Siegrist
    2. Alnwick
    3. McGregor
    4. Kelly
    5. Stryjek
    6. Marciano
    7. Fulton
    8. Lewis
    9. Bain
    10. Laidlaw
    11. Rogers
    12. Clark

Doohan and McCrorie below Clark, with Barkas just above Clark. McLaughlin in 6th above Marciano.

    Feels pretty good tbh.

Obviously a level down but Legzdins would come in 7th between Marciano and Fulton, if you subbed his performances last season into this group, while Gordon would be just below Laidlaw. Expect I'll get pelters for the Gordon bit, but on paper he was an average Championship keeper last season. No idea about Macey, suspect he'll be fairly invisible most of the time so plop him in around 5th or something, he'll just mostly do his job without any shite or spectacular.

I want no part of this alleged system

It’s churlish to say it isn’t, the level of consistency to be able to that over 4 seasons is an achievement. There are many clubs across Europe who have a significant financial advantage over the rest of their league and yet have never won 12 domestic trophies on the bounce.

It’s something I doubt we will ever see again

Has any other league got the level of income disparity Scotland has?   I find it hard to believe

The first season it wasn't but after doing well in Europe we were comfortably a better team than celtc, we were doing better than them in Europe and had the better of them for the Old Firm games. That season we had our January collapse and celtc were gifted the league prematurely, we were definitely challenging at that point. Not quite immediate but the signs of improvement were definitely there after the first season in charge.

Arguable, but Postecoglu has inherited a far bigger shambles somehow and probably needs at least 1 full season to try and build a competitive team in the way Gerrard got.  There was never any point in that first season when they looked like they had a shot at the league imo.  Gerrard had the benefit of 2 things - a rock bottom expectation level and being a 'name' which bought him time with the press.

Whether TGFITW accept that position I dunno
