Even if we lose (OK, I know) I still expect Hammell to be in the job next week. The only way I see it changing would be if it's a heavy defeat today. How many do you think it would need to be force the board's hand? 4? 5? -

That would be my guess and I'd certainly take that over Sky's prediction. Do Aberdeen still have a big team because we're severely lacking in height for set pieces.

I have no idea how Motherwell line up with that selection, possibly Johnston in midfield in front of O'Donnell at right-back? I have the fear for set pieces as there's not much height there, admittedly that's not helped by injuries.

There's always the danger of a signing being hijacked. Speculation is great fun but bring back the Tommy McLean way of the announcement being the first you knew of it.

I think he needs to go but it would be unrealistic to think the board won't give him the next couple of games when he's just brought a stack of players in and he hasn't had a chance to integrate them into the team.

I've noticed a thing recently, particularly with temporary traffic lights at roadworks, where the lights change to road, car stops at the lights and the car behind them pulls out and drives through the red light. Obviously assuming there's enough of a gap between the lights turning to green at the other end.

Can you bet on Reserve games these days? Presumably the big bookies don't know we're playing the kids.

The reserves lost 4-1 at Queen of the South tonight which doesn't sound great for the triallist (or the reserves to be honest).

We are weak and none of the new signings look as though they will address that. We were absolutely bullied (fairly) last night and if we are still to bring players in they need be able to do something about that, particularly in midfield.

Our midfield is winning absolutely nothing tonight.

Even if we announce a centre half today there's no way we're putting him in the team tonight without a training session so it's still Lamie and Blaney tonight. With no options on the bench so let's hope neither gets injured or sent off.

Surely we're not going to release regular first-team starters on the last day of the transfer window and not replace them? Never mind those that have already departed. Edited for ham-fisted typing.

I think Watt had already scored 10 for Motherwell before moving to United and then only managed one for the rest of the season. United don't seem to have got a turn from him but there's definitely a player in there.

I'm now fully expecting us not to sign a midfielder but say we've still got irons in the fire for an out of contract player. Drag it out a bit more, say it fell through and then just play Goss, Slattery and Spittal in midfield for the rest of the season.
