  1. Two good signings there. We know what Bob can do as he has been at Olivebank on two previous occasions and a good addition to defence. Think George is an excellent signing as I think he has strength/depth that Burgh have been missing up front, this season. Also, both from Bonnyrigg, coming down a league as opposed to previous signings, which were mainly from lower leagues.
  2. Hopefully the rumours will be positive. Interesting to see what level any new players come in from and whether they will be on loan or permanent?
  3. Thought Blackburn were better side in 2nd half and very unlucky when ball stated off bar and no one there to pop ball into the net. However, given early chances in match, Burgh would have been unhappy if they’d dropped points yesterday. Agree that next 2 home matches should get maximum 6 pts. Laing looks solid as last man of defence, a testimony in Burgh currently having share of fewest goals conceded in Premier league this season. Up front, with Darren Donnie away, Mathu King and Andy Jones injured, I think Burgh could do with a target man. Lots of speedy, good playing youngsters up front, but a burly forward should/would, hopefully yield more scoring chances. Don’t think Burgh ( or any other team) are catching Linlithgow this season. Paddy Power would already be paying out on the Rose winning the league. However, no reason why Musselburgh can’t finish top 3 come end of May. PTB - miss your match thoughts, so hopefully you will get back on this over the coming weeks
  4. How am I being condescending? How much do Darvel charge normally. Bet it is less than £10 per match, yet here they are charging £22 for this Scottish Cup tie. That is outrageous. You say in your response to another guy that the majority of fans at match may be neutral. So I assume, my thoughts, that there won’t be a big crowd? We will never know but it would be interesting to find out, locally, as to what the crowd would have been had they charged £8-£10. You, I assume, will be local to the area, but I bet very few will be enamoured by the apparent greed shown by the club. You only need to look at Bonnyrigg, for a huge contrast re-pricing. They could be charging a lot more for match day tickets, now they are in division 2, but they pegged back costs to the lowest in the league as they want their fans to come along for the journey with them, without making a quick buck. Result is record number of season ticket holders and average home crowds in excess of 500-600. Loyalty to fans.
  5. I assume you had a couple of Sherberts to many before writing your post. How anyone who is a supporter of teams in theWest / East of Scotland, would support such an entry fee, is obviously a mercenary with no regards to grassroots football. Darvel will be paid handsomely for reaching this stage of the Scottish Cup. They also will receive a large renumeration for the cameras being at the ground. Surely that is (extra) enough for any club without then fleecing their own fans in what will be one if not the best day’s in the clubs history. Perhaps an entry fee of £10 would be acceptable, though I would hope if it was my club, that the normal price for a league match was levied on the day. Now the club is also looking for £200 + VAT for companies to advertise in the match day programme. I always want teams at our level to do well in the Scottish Cup. The atmosphere/result, when Pollok beat Annan was a joy for the likes of me. Great crowd at affordable pricing. Somehow, don’t think the same will be there for the Darvel tie.
  6. there are minimum of 2 persons totally spoiling the EoS pages (not just Dunbar). Another 2 main pages sadly lacking content , these days, are Musselburgh and Whitehall W. The guy(s) with names (abbreviated to SOE & G184) are main protagonists. He/they obviously get a rise out of their comments but as you state, have just made erse(s) of themselves and at same time stopped useful contributions from others. I have stopped posting for couple of months now and apart from this post, will not be doing more posts as the culprit(s) have taken away my enjoyment of this site. Platform 19 - Hopefully moderators see your post! Hopefully the couple of guys with genuine interest of Musselburgh comeback to the forum as I truly miss their contributions. Ditto ( for Musselburgh comments) - same applies to the various genuine posters of Whitehill (and Dunbar - as you correctly state in your post). The truth in what you say can be seen in the no. of posts on the EoS forum. Last season, the Lowland League had over 2k more posts than EoS. During same season, EoS forum actually overtook the Lowand League in the no. of posts made. Now, Lowland League posts out-number EoS’ by 5.7k. Back to my hibernation again. Cheers, Platform 19, For your worthy post
  7. Two ties definitely grab the headlines; Jeanfield Swifts v Brechin City Clydebank v Spartans both home teams will definitely fancy their chances against ‘senior’ teams. But this tie also will capture many interests across East/Midlothian. Newtongrange have got a pretty good record in recent seasons at Olivebank and will see this as a winnable tie. Hopefully/surely Burgh will make it 2 scalps in a row against Midlothian rivals.
  8. Well done to Darvel in the Scottish Cup tie, yesterday at Haddington. Home team went 1-0 up early in the match with King, the Hihi left back, getting to goal, going in, off the bar. Darvel then applied the pressure, but Haddington gave a good account of themselves on the counter attack, during the first 20 minutes. Probably the most telling event was Dale Cornet the Haddington keeper being sent off for a last man challenge. He is one of two best keepers in the East of Scotland Premier League. Ten man Haddington team held out for the remainder of 1st half and went in 1-0 up. Game changed early in second half with two quick goals from Darvel, the first of which is well worth a watch on Darvel’s highlights of the match. Just before and after Darvel’s second goal, Haddington had two good chances of a 2nd goal of their own. The first, just going past the post and the 2nd, with a low free kick into the 6-yard box and two Hihi players just couldn’t connect with ball. Then on 63 minutes, Darvel killed the match as a competition with their 3rd goal. After that, Darvel played out the match to win convincingly in the end. Just to say, thought Darvel played the game in good spirit, especially after the 3rd. Quite often teams exploit slow play, when ball goes out, but the Darvel keeper, in particular, didn’t get involved in time wasting and played the game as it should be. If you’re good enough, that’s the correct way to play football. Good luck to Darvel in their next Scottish Cup tie.
  9. Great result today against high-fliers Penicuik. Shows that the same cup result as happened two seasons ago was no fluke. Also heard that the performance was a marked increase to when winning at Linlithgow a couple of weeks ago. Now, Burgh must keep up such performances for the league campaign and move up into to half. Hopefully a home ride awaits in the next preliminary round of Scottish Cup.
  10. 3rd season involved in the Scottish Cup and Burgh still await their 1st home tie in the competition. Started off 2 seasons ago with a win away to Penicuik, where fate takes them again tomorrow. Always tough match up at Penicuik Park and with them winning all 4 league matches this season Musselburgh will have to be at their best to progress to the next preliminary round.
  11. You question me for being too personal, but then do all you can to detail my full name in your last post? Perhaps you are right in your thoughts, but that is generally what a forum is for; for people to raise their thoughts, mainly on their own team but also on others when there is a common interest. Just a couple of points to address your posts. I have been a Musselburgh supporter since moving there in 2002 and still am, regardless of what you or perhaps your nephew think. I chose to take a sabbatical from Olivebank just over a year ago. A small group of fans, committee and players at Musselburgh know my reasons. As you say, I watch Haddington at Millfield these days, mainly because I live in Haddington. That doesn’t mean I don’t support Musselburgh. I have no idea what you meant in your last post by ‘glass houses’ You are the 3rd person in recent weeks who appear to have taken umbrage at my posts on P&B. So, I will keep my personal thoughts to myself and stay off the site for a while. The site should be about the club not about me/individuals.
  12. Have you read my posts for the last 5-6 years or just the past few weeks/months? If the former, you will know I am a Burgh fan. I do not think that the manager is right for the club, again I think I have explained why. If you think I am the only fan who thinks like this, then you haven’t been anywhere near Olivebank in past year. I will be more than happy to be proved wrong if the manager/team does pull it round this season
  13. I would say gone from hot, to warm, certainly not cold. My argument has not changed too much at moment, but come end of season, I will be more than delighted if I am proved wrong. As a Burgh fan I certainly don’t want to see my team fail. But look at my previous 3-4 posts to see why I had these current thoughts.
  14. Hahaha. Once again, just shows the arrogance of Linlithgow Rose Supporters ( well at least one - incase I dare suggest I put words into your mouth again). Last year when the new management team were in place, Linlithgow went on a great unbeaten run which caught themselves up with Penicuik and Tranent. At that point lots of fans were thinking that they would go on and win the league. But then the form dipped and at same time Tranent finished on a great run of form to take title. But having won two cups, lots of fans, perhaps you excluded thought Linlithgow would be the team to beat this season - hence my earlier message. Regarding ‘scalps’, apart from last season’s 6-0 gubbing by your club at Olivebank, when we were in free fall at the time, the most recent results were close, mostly draws, apart from the time the Rose committee spat their dummy out and sacked your manager when we put 6 passed your team 3-4 seasons ago. No one to my knowledge these days think Linlithgow as ‘a scalp’ to take. Linlithgow for the past 6 years or so are just another team to most, albeit I did think you were gavourites to win the league this season. Not any more...
  15. So, what are you saying? Linlithgow mangement team are-nay bothered as it was just Musselburgh that beat them today? Think Linlithgow were firm favs for the league but one draw and one loss in 1st 3 matches isn’t stating the case very well.
  16. What was your crowd tonight? Hopefully the support would have been buoyant by such a good start to the league campaign; winning your opening three matches.
  17. Should at least be a consideration Rob. Often think that manager’s are easily passed off as the only one to blame when things go wrong as players must have responsibility on the field. But think to the team we had pre-COVID and when Geordie was in situ. For me, we were top 3 - top 5 material. Skip onto last season and the nucleus of the team, albeit a couple of players getting to the end of their career, were still there. Then Donaldson, Evans, Whyte, Donaldson (missing a player I think) are allowed to leave during the season, followed by Downie, Orru, and more during the close season and supporters have got to think what the heck is going on! We also lose what appears to be a very young and upcoming coach who already had the respect of the players close season (2021-22) and we finish the season mediocre at best. 1 point from 6, when we should be looking at 4 from 6. Now if we go to Linlithgow, and get a win, my argument begins to go cold. But if we have 1 from 9, then I think Slabs has same thoughts as a number of fans at the club. Hopefully I am wrong Rob, and you are right....
  18. So I need to bring headache tablets just in case? At least the local choir should learn another tune
  19. Maybe age has something to do with it, but how can you give credit to the annoying drummer(s). The drum skin should have a silencer on it. Not sure I could cope going the Forresters park ever home match at listen to that! As said, maybe my age!!
  20. I don’t agree it should have been 4-0. Penalty very soft. Perhaps the video will confirm it was, but think there was justice with the penalty save. The ball bounced on top of the bar and out, as opposed to back in play, though the keeper did have another fine save in the first half. Although Tranent were just as dominant in the 2nd half, keeper wasn’t as involved as in 1st. Regardless, Tranent deserved the win, which is all that matters to the home tea,/support.
  21. Sounds like a complete turnaround from Saturday PTB, which is good to hear.
  22. Tough tie for Musselburgh, away to Penicuik fo 2nd time in 3 seasons. Not insurmountable though for Burgh, as last season in league matches, both teams one 1-0 at home against each other. Certainly the draw could have been kinder
  23. What is it about Musselburgh and away ties in Scottish Cup toes? - this will be 4 out of 4 since 2020-21. What is is about Musselburgh drawing Penicuik in Scottish Cup ties? Third season in the cup and 2nd out of 3 seasons away to Penicuik. This first in 2020-21 saw Burgh progress to next round. Agree with your comment though - one of toughest ties of the round.
  24. Next 5 days may be telling. Two tough away matches; tonight at Broxburn and Saturday at Linlithgow. On the positive, get 4pts out of 6 and the manager’s position strengthens. But, two losses and his position weakens again. No one at Burgh, committee, coaches, players and supporters like where we are at the moment. Get results and the fans will get behind the coaching staff, but I think short term at least that is a tall order. You will know how good Greg Page was on Saturday, but he leaves close season from Burgh, to re-join Penicuik and gets MoM award in the 1st league match of season. Then, another close-season departure at Olivebank, sees Darren Downie score two goals and I think, gets MoM for Broxburn. What I see, and happy for an Burgh fan to come on and say I’m wrong, is that Burgh allow good players to leave our club for better/equal teams and straight away, they are getting plaudits.
