  1. is there still a song played after we score? it was 500 miles for a long time and then changed to bits and pieces but I'm not sure what it is now? the last 2 home games I've celebrated all the goals like a mad man and didn't notice if anything was played or not
  2. My word was that horny! watched the highlights about 40 times today
  3. A wee mention for this guy. Heart of a lion and loves playing for his country despite the stick he gets. Didn't put a foot wrong last night and kept their very strong left side quiet. More than contributed to a tremendous team performance
  4. I was thinking the same re. harsh on Hendry but in matches when we (should!) dominate the ball Mctominay is the better option in there
  5. I was thinking this in the build up to the recent squad announcement. If Gordon gets injured or retires in the near future who would be our No.1? 3 or 4 candidates who are all much and such and a bit meh. There seems to be high hopes for lad slicker at man city but he is probably still 2 campaigns away age wise
  6. what's the thoughts on the line up for this game then now we have the squad? Gordon Mctominay Hanley Tiereny Paterson Mcgregor Gilmour Robertson Mcginn Adams Brown No idea if Brown has been brought in to start this game but you would think it would be him or Fraser and Brown has been playing regular at Stoke so might edge it
  7. Really good post and totally agree. Some guys will feel unlucky to be left out/not getting a sniff but as you say now is not the time for trial and error. SOD is someone i don't understand the criticism about. Gives his all and has been solid in a position we have struggled in recent years. Probably will be his last campaign but deserves to see it through. The lad from Stoke has came out the blue but there is obviously something there Clarke thinks we need for the Moldova game.
  8. Was just having a scan on the Stoke City forum. A lot of the comments sounds like Brown is in the Oli burke Mould. Fast/runs/headless chicken. There must be something there before Clarke has called him up so time will tell! other than that the squad is as expected
  9. So he is! I had completely forgot about that. Although I think he'll still go with what he has. Adams/Fraser/Nisbet (although the later is going through a sticky spell. I still don't think he'll be left out)
  10. I think it is a worry the lack of game time recently. General fitness and match fitness are 2 completely different things. Gilmour and Paterson both not playing much. Probably get away with it against Moldova but would it be a concern down the line? Play off matches for example?
  11. I don't think there will be any new faces/changes in the squad. Unless Tierney doesn't make it, Hickey might come in. Up front I reckon he'll just go with Adams/Fraser/Christie with Dykes coming back in for Denmark.
  12. I'm a big fan of him as a player. And think he's been a brilliant asset for us. I agree, Mcgregor has been very good for us recently but I would rather have him in the team somewhere than not at all. Just my opinion of course Also, the fact we are debating a player playing in the champions league/Top end premier league says a lot about the potential of this squad just now and is a positive thing to have so many options.
  13. We were having a chat in the office just now about what current Scotland squad players could kick on and get a 'bigger move' and what players might take a step back in their club careers. Players mentioned about getting a bigger move - Tierney- Always seems to stand out in that arsenal team. Wouldn't look out of place in the champions league. Mcginn- There's always been talk about a move from Villa. was wondering if some of the bigger clubs would take a punt. Paterson- Again, talk of premier league teams keeping an eye. Might need to get a run of games at Rangers first? Dykes-Always looks a handful to play against. Could be a fit for a lower premier league team in the near future? On the other hand I get the feeling that 1 midfield signing from Manchester United and Mctominay could end up kicking his heals on the bench. Would hate to see that as hes a massive player for us. I wonder if he'll end up at a west ham/spurs/leceister type? Gilmour is another one that will be interesting to see what happens. Could he go back to Chelsea and go straight in or Might he have to move on to keep getting regular football? A lot might hinge on the rest of this season with Norwich
  14. I feel more nervous about this game than i did about the Isreal one for some reason! Praying for an early goal to settle us down and (hopefully) make it a comfortable night. Christie looked hungry when he came on against Isreal so I would go with him right up with Dykes. Hanley will come in also but for Mctominay or Hendry I'm not sure! You would hope we would have the lions share of possession so i would personally keep McTominay in there as i think he is very good on the ball from that deeper position. 3 points please!!!
  15. What's everyones line up based on the squad selection then? id go Gordon Hendry Cooper Tierney SOD McTominay Gilmour Robbo Mcginn Dykes Adams
  16. Have we ever had as much young players scattered around 'big clubs' as we have just now? looking at the younger squads we seem to have a few at man city, Bayern etc. along with a large number at English premier league clubs. Obviously they wont all make it but even if 2 or 3 make the break through along with the younger players already in the first team squad it looks like it could possibly be an exciting period for Scottish football
  17. I know its early in the season but is anyone else getting a bit worried? 1 point off the bottom and in danger of getting cut adrift from the top 2/3 already. I just feel things are going a bit stale at the club. I also hope Hester's injury isn't long term as I don't see where our goals are going to come from.
  18. Did I expect a result last night? No. I also didn't expect that first half performance. We looked all over the place. The thing that always frustrates me is that other small countries always seem to manage to do 'something' with even less at their disposal than us. Ireland for example, leading Portugal into injury time last night. Checking their line up how many of them would get into our squad? very little on paper, yet I wouldn't expect us to lay a glove on a team like Portugal just now-especially based on last night. The thing that worries me is Clarke doesn't seem to be learning from his mistakes. 6 points needed now or its curtains
  19. Why has McTominay missed out? have I missed something? But agreed. Big loss for us
  20. Will be an interesting one to see what he does with players that haven't featured much so far in the season. Marshall,Mcburnie, patterson etc. Have the 2 young celtic guys maybe made a push in the last couple of weeks? (Ralston & Welsh). If Robertson doesnt make it would he switch to a back 4? An intriguing few games ahead!
  21. Failure was probably the wrong word I used there. I would just be very disappointed if we weren't at least challenging for 2nd spot come the last round of games. I agree that 1st is a very tough ask. I can see Denmark running away with it, top side. But I believe We have more than enough in our squad just now to compete with Austria, Israel etc if we have a bit more of a go
  22. When Clarke came in I think number one mission was to make us harder to beat. I think he's done this. But we have to be looking for more now from this group of players. On paper we have players from Man utd, chelsea, liverpool, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Rangers, Celtic etc. We have a good squad of players, they just need the reigns taken off now in my opinion. He should rightly get the rest of this campaign but anything less than second I think is a failure from this group
  23. This was always going to be the case. I said at the time on here that I couldn't believe we paid money to take Shane back then only out him on a 1 year deal. he will either sign a pre contract with someone and go in the summer (best case) or he goes now for peanuts.
  24. I'm struggling to remember seeing a worse half of football than that first half on Saturday. it was shocking. Second half, came flying out the traps and scored a really well worked goal to go 2-1 up. After that just fell out of the game again. I thought Shane showed some touches of class, all be it deeper on the pitch than you would want to see him. Also thought the left back spark had a decent game. Admittedly I haven't saw as much games as I would like this season and that was maybe just a bad day at the office but based on that its the relegation play off we should be worried about and not the promotion one!!
  25. As positive as I've felt after a pre-season in a long time! Sutherland and Hester looking sharp upfront and we might possibly have finally found a solid defensive partnership in McDonald and Bronsky. However, I've followed Elgin long enough now to know not to get carried away! If we won 3-0 on Saturday I wouldn't be surprised, the same as if we got beat 3-0 I also wouldn't be surprised. You never know with us. Should be an interesting game
