I was not able to see if Sangare was offside but if he was then OK but both ref and the main stand assistant missed it. Up for debate if that is an " obvious error". The call was for handball and then root cause for VAR intervention was changed. Its killing the game and I would like to see it punted. Let the refs do their job and if mistakes happen then we can all greet and moan over our beer in the pub. Way things are going we won't need to moan much longer as its not in the Championship.

    No you’re absolutely right.

Sangare was slightly off, by a whisker, we got burned with it with Boyle’s one in the semi final.

Even the handball itself was a nonsense, the ball hit his hand, yes but issues like that where he can’t really do anything to stop the ball hitting his hand arent what the handball rule was created for, but that’s what we’re dealing with it now.

Don’t care that we got a couple of VAR calls our way today, (and once against tbf) f**k VAR.

  2. We weren’t great but we don’t usually win games when we play like that, probably an inditement of Livingstons luck at the moment.

Good to see Hanlon back playing well, would have him and Rocky as my starting two centre halfs.

I’m like a broken record but VAR is a fucking farce, I know both times they got to the correct decisions but I don’t understand how anyone in the world could say football is better for it.

Anyone with half a brain warned us of this before it came in and it’s been just like it always was going to.

  3. We should just start forfeiting away games at Parkhead and Ibrox and keeping players fresh for the games that matter.

    Utterly boring.

Will Fish is absolutely brutal, must have cost us a good 7 or 8 goals this season through stupid individual mistakes, would rather have Paul Hanlon aged 95 in a wheelchair.

  4. Heading off for this on Monday, can’t wait.

Anyone been to Tbilisi before with any shouts for things to do/places to go?

Got a few days before the game and it’s be good to do some touristy things.

We spent the whole week in Cyprus in the bars with Scotland fans and we were all utterly fed up of hearing the McTominay song every 5 minutes by the 2nd day so it’d be good to hear of good places to go to get a bit of culture in.

    And I’ll repeat.

    It’s NOT VAR.

It’s the p***ks who are using it.

VAR picked up on PAOK’s penalty.
    Correctly.
That’s what it’s for. So that on field decisions that are missed get picked up.

The VAR man is instructed to check all things that happen in the penalty box.
    Everything.

    They didn’t check.
    Why?

Aberdeen deserve an explanation as to why not.

You realise the people operating it are the same people that are refereeing.

People make mistakes and always will, a referee making a mistake in real time does not ruin football as a spectacle.

VAR however does for 0 gain which is clearly shown by Thursdays injustice.

  6. Not that I’m petty as I truly feel sorry for Aberdeen supporters tonight because they’ve been totally fucked over

But from a look at the people who supported VAR according to this poll with affiliation to AFC.

    @Thenorthernlight @gudge1903

Hope you’re glad of the decision to ruin the old game of fitba.

Watched the game tonight with an Aberdeen fan and I think it’s the most annoyed I’ve been at another team being fucked over that I’ve ever been to be honest, remember people earlier in this thread said it would help level the playing field against the bigger clubs 😂.

Start the Scotland one now and let me know if they've finally increased the maximum squad sizes from 23. Thanks.

    Spoiler

Yes, this smiley also applies to the selection of Ryan Gauld

  8. I always buy it cause it’s only £40, I usually only get a couple of nights per week where I’ve time to sit about and do f**k all and Football Manager is a great way of doing so, I don’t have an Xbox/PS4/5 or whatever it is now so it’s not a huge outlay.

Set up a game with East Fife for the Beta because I’m probably quite ignorant about their team and small details being incorrect doesn’t bother me as much, e.g. if I started at Hibs I would notice they’ve got Le Fondre on £15k per week and Kanayo Megwa’s loan to Airdrie has been missed.

Looks pretty decent so far, match engine you can see has improved, the targets feature seems quite decent, Brian Easton had been rotten until I told him he needed an average rating of 7.0 or he’s dropped and he’s stepped it up a level.

Only 4 games in but seems good, will get a proper run at it on Sunday unless I’m too hungover to function.

Will start my usual Hibs and Scotland long term saves once the full game is out and see what else takes my fancy.

  9. On Saturday I went to FK Arsenal Tivat 1-1 FK Sutjeska Niksic in the Montenegrin First League.

Arsenal Tivat are named after the city (Tivat) and Arsenal relates to Tivats 19th century naval arsenal.

The standard wasn’t great however the views around the stadium were.

Spent the week in Montenegro, based in Tivat, amazing country and Tivat is a good base to explore for anyone interested.

Ground was pretty tinpot and I must admit, I have been to games in League 1 & 2 up here with far more quality, but that doesn’t make it any less special.

Sutjeska were the better side especially in the first half, but a goalkeeping mistake for them at 1-1 just before half time cost them and the second half was a damp squib.

Ticket was €3 though and for top flight football that is ridiculously good, no matter the standard.

I would be happy with a repeat of any of the following:
    - Dons goal within 15 seconds

    - An Aberdonian to be humiliatingly subbed off for Hibs in the first half

    - Whichever joker Hibs now have in goals to spill in a free kick

    - Johnny Hayes to score the winner from 25 yards

Grant Holts performance that day 🥰.

I would be fine with a similar game but with a Jojo Wollacott header in stoppage time to send us to extra time.

In all honesty can we just agree that the winner of this one goes on to win the thing, that fair?

  11. Fair enjoyed that.

I don’t think Vente has missed a shot at goal yet since he signed, don’t know if anyone that has Wyscout/Opta access can tell me differently but I don’t remember a single shot he’s taken that hasn’t gone in.

Newell and Miller the stand outs, Joe Newell has totally proved me wrong and won me round, what a player he’s turned into, Miller clearly been lifted with the new manager, great performance tonight.

Last minute goals when you’re 1 goal ahead and defending deep and score on the break just hit different, that’s our second like that in the last couple of months, if you could bottle up the feeling and drink it, it would be illegal.

Fair play for St Mirrens first goal btw, what a move followed by an absolute beauty of a hit, nearly stood back and clapped it, but I’m not one of the wanks that do that.

Now that the dust has settled I’m okay with that.

Result? Shite. Performance? Shite. Opportunity missed.

However 5th place means we’ll go into Europe seeded a round before Hearts do assuming Celtic win the cup, this likely means we’ll get 1 more European tie than they do which is superb.

Possibly more importantly it means Naismith will likely end up getting the job permanently, this is terrific news, have seen Hearts three times under his management and they have been truly awful.

Think in the long run this will turn out well for us.

Curious as to why you think it'd be a car crash.  I'm not sure he'd be right but he's 100% improved on what he inherited and the players love him.

I get folk wanting it to be a car crash right enough, but at worst i think he'd be a bog standard Cinch manager

I'm assuming two of those games were the one three days after he got the job and the one where his team played about 80 minutes against yours a man down and got a draw in a game your team had to win, aye?

I get that wishful thinking is what fitba fans do, and I'm not a huge Naismith advocate by any means. But there's been absolutely nothing in his spell in charge to suggest him getting the job would be 'terrific news' for Hibs whatsoever. At worst he's steadied the ship and got some decent results and performances out of a team that was in a nose-dive.

I thought he got it right yesterday. We looked likely to win 11 v 11 and then he defended the weaknesses in our team with ten men. It was fucking dull, but absolutely the right approach in the situation. Hibs ran out of ideas relatively early. That's good game management.

Apart from the first game, when he'd hardly worked with the players, Hearts have performed pretty well in every game since he got the job.

These sound like the same sort of people who have chased manager after manager out of the door at Hibs because they have ideas above their station about what the club should be achieving and how they should be doing so.

Imagine trying to logically justify the idea that after watching your club be almost exclusively shite for 20 years, with only a brief uptick under Jimmy Calderwood, hardly the most inspiring manager himself, you would be driven away by actually finally winning a trophy, reaching lots of cup semis and finals, finishing 2nd in the league numerous times and various decent European runs.

I can understand fans getting fed up by the end, but imagine claiming with a straight face that losing 9-0 to Celtic was fine, but not managing to topple their invincible side at Hampden was the final straw.

I suppose the difference between McGhee and other failures is McInnes was there for 8 years whereas the rest were there for a lot shorter periods.

The reasoning for it was nothing other than boredom, they found the style of football so utterly boring they no longer watch the Scottish league, the national team or anyone football at all really, it just completely sucked away their enthusiasm.

  14. Technically there’s no such thing as a permanent manager, unless of course your name is Dick Campbell and your club is Arbroath.

Jesus though that list is grim, I hope that no one on it gets near the job.

None more so than McInnes, I’ve got Aberdeen supporting pals that genuinely no longer care about football at all after 20+ years supporting the club prior due to that man sucking the soul out of their enjoyment for football, plus, a decent start to the season aside, he’s hardly set the heather alight at Killie.

Hopefully it’s someone from abroad, Hearts & Aberdeen were linked with Cifuentes which would be interesting, would be okay with a Wilder type too.

Voted Yogi though for the laughs.

I’ve seen us win in Trondheim, draw in Lucerne and lose to a very good Monaco side so I do know what it’s like to follow my team in Europe.

It should have been double figures last night and your team were shit.

I’m 26 years old and I’ve seen more European away wins than that, you’re also posting a defeat like it’s some form of win here which is pretty funny, back down to the championship where you belong next season sir.

  16. The below is pretty much where I’m at, obviously before the game you had the “what if?” Excitement, but in reality anyone that expected anything different is on cloud cuckoo land.

A wee lesson for some of the lunatics you see running about on this site saying how great it would be to draw an English side. Drawing Englsh teams is fucking awful these days.

Aberdeen fans talk about taking Burnley to extra time. But Burnley were shite, had over-achieved the previous season, and finished 15th in the Premier League the season Aberdeen played them. Pumped out the Europa League before the group stages, early exits in both domestic cups. Hard to recall a worse English side to play in Europe in the last decade or so. And the season Hearts ran Liverpool close, they were in a downwards spell and were certainly not 'Liverpool.' They'd finished eighth the season before, and seventh the season we played them. In an era when the teams outside the Champions League spaces were generally much-of-a-muchness shite.

The reality of playing an English club these days is that you're likely to be facing an upwardly-mobile club with an upwardly-mobile coach and a squad deep as f**k with excellent players from a league where getting into Europe is no longer a case of just being better than all the shite there used to be outside the top four.

Add to that that these clubs now see the Conference League and Europa League as worth winning because they are ultimately a back door to the Champions League, and you've got a situation where you're likely to take a complete rag-dolling.

Hibs didn't help themselves. It was tactically dreadful, gutless, and lacking the basics of defending. The goals they lost in the first half were laugh-out-loud bad. But the result being the result is no surprise. I actually called 5-0 on kick-off yesterday. Should have had a bet.

Was our defending utterly crap? Yes, did Youan, our star player have the worst game of his Hibs career? Yes.

The two points really didn’t help us but even if we were at our best it would have probably been a similar scoreline.

The reasons for this aren’t because of Lee Johnson and I’m not exactly his number 1 fan, they aren’t because of a “Hibsing,” it’s because of Sky Sports, the financial doping and the competitiveness being taken away from football.

Some dreadful takes in this thread however none are worse than this one:

I pity the poor b*****ds that have already shelled out for the trip down to Birmingham 😂

A fan of *checks profile* St Johnstone.

If the thought of a trip down to Birmingham with all your mates with probably another 5k+ of your fellow supporters to be spent in the pubs is to be pitied then you’re following the wrong sport.

I suppose as a St Johnstone fan you’ve never had the opportunity to have such an experience so that may be a factor.

Hopefully Villa play the kids and we can at least get a goal or something to celebrate to give us our moment.

All in all it’s been a brilliant experience this season being in Europe, 6 matches, 2 more than expected and beating a team we were expected to lose to based on seedings and bookies odds.

See you again next season @EuropaConferenceLeague.

  17. As smashing as a result as that was on a personal note it feels pretty flat all things considered knowing I wasn’t there and I missed out on the night 😭.

Train booked for Birmingham already regardless, smashing result, huge boost to the club financially, some superb performances, I know he could have done better for the second but I thought Hanlon was utterly superb otherwise.

Jeggo made a difference when he came on too.

  18. Just now, Leith Green said:

Well done Motherwell taking the points from that shit show.

We were worse than awful, that defence is so so poor.

The manager can't survive this, can he?

He’s no going anywhere while his best mate Kensell is still here eating up his kooshty salary doing f**k all.

Johnson is not the answer but the reason for days like today is that absolute fool.

  19. That’s 3 of the last 4 goals we’ve conceded due to individual errors from Will Fish.

How many players is it that we’ve signed for a second spell after a successful loan that have been rotten second time around?

Kamberi, MacLaren, McGivern the ones that come to mind, Fish may very well be the next for this list.
