  1. Bringing Fish back is not surprising but superb news, the January recall clause is what it is, he’s not our player and gonna have to be replaced eventually but it’s a solid defender secured for the time being.

Some chat circling about Dylan Vente on the internet, now that’s an exciting rumour.

Been linked with English Championship clubs but the Roda DoF confirmed he’s not going to England, the club have released a statement saying he’s been allowed time off to complete a transfer.

Scored 20+ goals in the last two seasons in the Dutch 2nd Tier, 6 ft 1 and only just turned 24.

If there’s any truth in it we’ve obviously chucked a lot of cash at it.

May be absolute nonsense but if you can’t get excited by a rumour like this then what’s the point in following football?

  2. If you’re looking at flight prices do it in incognito mode, it drives up the price to do so in your normal browser.

Looking like a financial nightmare this one, having to wait 2 weeks to book and possibly the two most expensive places in Europe.

Will do my best to be there though!

  3. Don’t fancy Adana either, some good players in their team and the potential to get stabbed.

Plzen possibly the best hope given we’d be seeded + a good place to go

Arouca, I’d be delighted with because it’d be less faff with booking.

Djurgardens or Luzern would be ridiculously expensive.

I’ve been to Bucharest and it’s probably my favourite place that I’ve ever been however it’s ages away from Cluj and it’d be difficult with the potential of Turkey there I would rather avoid that one.

Tie 3 or Tie 5 please, drawmaster.

  4. Unfortunately 1 weeks notice isn’t enough for a trip for this one, hopefully the draw on Monday is kind and clear in terms of destination.

If they’re anything like Santa Coloma were when we played them in 2021 they’ll be hammer throwers with no footballing ability and we’ll walk both legs.

  5. If you can’t get excited at the start of a new season then what’s the fucking point? Hibs 3rd, Hearts to banter and goodbye to Livingston & St Johnstone (FINALLY)

    1. Celtic - boring

    2. Rangers - see above

    3. Hibs - Seems like we’re 2 or 3 players away from being a good side, hopefully we get them, unlike many, I like Lee Johnson as a manager, as a person less so but I enjoy his football.

    4. Aberdeen - Struggle with European games and not convinced Robson is the managerial messiah he appeared to be at first

    5. St Mirren - If they can keep the likes of Baccus and Strain they could have a good season

    6. Hearts - They’ll pick up when they finally punt Steven Naibadge but I’m pretty hopeful of a banterful season, too many good players to be in the bottom six if they bring in a real manager though

    7. Motherwell - Kettlewell seems to be doingwell but the loss of Van Veen leaves them too lean

    8. Kilmarnock - Surely they can’t be as bad away from home as they were last season, boring football, Magennis to manage less than 15 games but solid enough to stay up, expect them to continue to pick up a lot of points at home.

    9. Ross County - Expecting them to play the most dull football ever but Simon Murray will single handedly keep them up

    10. Dundee - Dundee will not Dundee, this is based on nothing other than hope and enjoying away trips to the DD postcode

    11. Livingston (Beaten by Yogi Hughes’ Dundee Utd in the play offs) - No chance this will happen because Livi will Livi but I am absolutely fed up of losing 6 points a season to them and maybe they will finally f**k off + their stadium is shite

    12. St Johnstone - Again, doubtful but I do feel like a relegation has been coming for them over the last few years and I wouldn’t be shocked to see them go.

Understand if not many know a lot but what can you tell us about McCulloch?

    Screenshot_20230713_144638_Twitter.jpg

Saw him a couple of times for the U19s in the UEFA Youth League, he came off the bench against Dortmund and that was when I noticed him most.

He played in the middle of the park and at a time where we were sitting back and taking a lot of pressure he was one of the more involved players, winning the ball back and getting stuck in.

Didn’t seem to get much of a game for Albion Rovers when he was there towards the end of the season but perhaps understandable not wanting to use a younger guy in the situation.

Hopefully he kicks on and does well, he seems like a really decent laddie.

Hate to bring bad news…it’s not great. Train is cheap enough (as you’d expect), but is about 6 hours long or something. Is what it is, I guess, and at least there is a way between both cities.

Thanks for the information on this, not ideal but manageable given our flight times.

Hopefully the chat I’ve heard is right and it’s in Tbilisi.

Has the venue been confirmed for this?

    Wikipedia listing it as Tbilisi.

Believe they played their early qualifying games in Batumi because they’re hosting the U21 Euros in Georgia and the stadium in Tbilisi had some work getting done to it for the game.

So if that’s true they should be back at their normal stadium by November.

We've booked Edin -> Copenhagen -> Istanbul -> Tbilisi for the way there and the same for the way back albeit to Vienna instead, came in at £300 odd which is pretty good considering.

Really fancy this as somewhere different and probably a once in a lifetime thing as can’t see me going again, looks incredibly affordable once you arrive too, booked a decent sized house for 5 nights for £70 or so each for three of us.

If the games in Batumi shouldn’t be too difficult to get across and back I hope.

These aren't country allocations, these are 'neutral' tickets where you can choose where you'd like to go and a team you follow if you want. If I recall from previous tournaments the next step is you choose which tickets you'd like to go in the ballot for, those tickets are broken down into price categories and a max allocation per person. Then it's the luck of the draw after that.

That’s how the ticket portals always work. People can apply for tickets for specific matches before the draw has taken place. After the draw, there will he additional ballots for the matches.

    Thanks for the info.

What a horrific system, how are you meant to know if you want tickets for a game when you don’t know the teams playing?

Scotland should start doing that for next season for a laugh, a ballot to either get tickets for Scotlands nations league campaign, the Scottish Cup & League Cup Semi Finals and Finals or a Queens Park game.

Surely it would be much easier to wait until after the draw.

Should hopefully be up to 14 points by then depending on away ticket availability for Cyprus & Georgia but I’d be surprised if that’s enough for SSC tickets, so it’ll be throwing a blind dart at a moving obstacle to try and get tickets.

The absolute lack of common sense there is incomprehensible.

UEFA sell their own ‘neutral’ tickets, so you’d have a good chance of getting them that way.

    Thanks for this.

Why on earth are they opening the ticket window before the draw has taken place?

We’re to select a random game at a random stadium that could be Scotland v France but also Israel v Hungary.

    That surely cannot be right.

Don’t know if you watched their game on Saturday mate, but looked to me like they were both in the same category.
I believe we will comfortably turn this lot over. There, I said it.

I didn’t, nor have I seen them play to be fair.

Just basing it on their recent results and their squad on paper, as you say some teams have a fair few decent individuals but don’t really work as a team and they may well be in that category, here’s hoping.

  12. Georgia definitely in the nae mugs category at least in terms of individuals.

Valencias number 1, one of Napolis best players, a guy that’s scored 25 goals in Ligue 2 & regular starters from Shakhtar Donetsk, Red Star Belgrade, Sturm Graz, Lech Poznan & Slovan Bratislava among others.

Would bite your hand off for a 1-0 shitfest, we win this and a win in Cyprus (who are firmly in the mugs category) will do it.

Really hope we get a couple of goals early ish and it turns into an absolute party.

Saying all of that there’s no one in the world I trust to get a result more than Sir Steve.

  13. How was McGrath for you last season overall?

Hibs are being linked to him in the media, my impression of him was that he was good at St Mirren, flattered to deceive at Utd but was very good at penalties in both places.

Pretty underwhelmed by it overall however I think Wigan tried to sign Ewan Henderson in January so I would take a swap as that would be an upgrade for sure.

  14. Williams is a funny one, decent career in the championship and lower level English premier league while also racking up a lot of caps and then bizarrely dropped to league 2, seems to have done well there but that’s below the level of the Scottish Premiership.

Would have been okay if we’d signed him but hopefully it’s a sign that McDermott has his eyes on a few gems that are at a higher level.

  15. I’ve got a ticket going for the Friday for under face value, don’t fancy it anymore due to the set times.

If you’re going the Friday and yet to buy a ticket yet let me know cause I’ll give you mine for under FV, E-Ticket so can send it over.

Against 3rd choice Celtic side on their holidays?  Fair enough.   And you enjoyed that more than the League Cup Semi?  Wow!

Wrong once again?  You're the one that made up we came 3rd by default and got the seasons wrong.  We finished 7th by default actually Ross came in mid November and the season was stopped in March.  Hardly a lot of time is it?  Yet you only said that to try and make our amazing 5th this year sound so great.  A Cup Semi?  What's that again?  As under Johnson emptied out right away you dont make semi finals losing to League 1 Falkirk and drawing at home to Morton, you mention Broara but just ignore Darvel when trying to make up the league was stronger this year.  Weird logic that.

Hearts were shite (even though they pumped us with ease twice because of team selection bingo) Aberdeen utterly pap until February.  Both sacked managers for being so shite yet Johnsons good even though he finished behind both of them somehow?  Hes only in a job because Ron passed away and hes got his tongue so far up the rest of thems arsehole.

He doesn't get many signings right.    Check all the shite in the summer.    The same Fish he never played for 6 months?  Same Kuchy who seems injury prone?  What about the rest of the mince including the ones that cost us money?  Kenneh Taveres McKirky Cajarba? McGeady?

We still have Cadden in the team, Jackson Irvines better than any midfielder we have at the moment and Ross wasn't backed at all in the market either.

We were getting absolutely battered for 90 minutes and scored from a corner and 3 counter attacks, very different to a game where we absolutely battered the best team in the country, there were a couple of fringe players in (Bain, Iwata, Ralston) but the rest had played a lot for them.

Ross managed to get us up 1 league place in that time and the 3rd season wasn’t enjoyable in any sense whatsoever, I honestly don’t remember enjoying any games during the whole season, it was mind numbing.

No one is saying 5th is great either, I’m just happier with the style of play and the direction the club is going in.

And Brora and Darvel aren’t comparable either, different manager, pretty different personnel aswell after the January window. And come on mate, you can’t seriously suggest to me the league was stronger in 2020/21 when everyone was skint and working from smaller budgets due to covid compared to now where teams get more European money and are spending pretty heavily.

No one is saying Johnson is tremendous either he’s just a better manager than Jack Ross, his record shows it over time, he’s had success everywhere he’s went, that can’t be said about Ross.

You can make a list of shite signings by any manager, Ross signed Drey Wright, Jamie Murphy, Chris Mueller, Marc McNulty, Stephen McGinn, Matt Macey and spunked about half a million on Dan MacKay & Dylan Tait, not every signing will be a hit.

Jackson Irvine missed a sitter in the cup final and wasn’t really that good for us was he?

There has been no game under Johnson that beats the excitement of scudding the **** at hampden.  Not a single one.  Then there was a great day pumping hertz away too.    What is Johnsons clear style?  I fail to see.  We change players positions and formations on a week to week basis.

Erm Ross took over us bottom of the table.   We have been pumped at home of a shite Hearts team last season too.  That same hearts team that beat us put the **** out the cup a week earlier so they could buy a win.

Explain how we finished 3rd by default?  Arent you talking about the previous season that covid ended the season that we finished bottom half by default?

In what was it stronger?  Hearts and Aberdeen that crap they sacked managers.  Darvel ffs and look who finished above us?

If Lee Johnson had actually seen Mattew Hoppe why bring him to the club and play him ahead of the youngsters we never play?

Rockys crap.  The whole of the league can see that.  POTY means nothing this year, Joe Newell  won it ffs.

All about opinions.  No harm in seeing things differently.

Personally enjoyed the game against Celtic recently a lot more, secured us a European trip and we actually battered them, against Rangers it was a win, but they were allover us, the result was enjoyable but the match wasn’t, 71% possession for Rangers and 18 shots at goal, of course I enjoyed myself afterwards but the game was very much a steal, we had 3 shots on target ffs.

We were 8th when Jack Ross took over and we finished 7th so you’re wrong on that one once again, he then lost to them in a cup semi final not long before they were beaten by the mighty Brora Rangers.

In terms of the league being stronger, a competent Hearts team was in it for one, Aberdeen also didn’t go 8 games without scoring a goal this season, they had a poor run in the winter but then won about 10 games in a row, they’ve got a striker who’s being touted for £7m and another international regular for a team that beat Italy last year.

Can’t disagree on Hoppe but you don’t get every signing right, we have brought in some muck but we’ve also seen the likes of Egan-Reilly, Youan, Fish, Khukareyvch which are an upgrade on probably all of Ross’ signings other than Nisbet and maybe Greg Docherty.

  18. 1 hour ago, Hoose Rice said:

Fair enough.  You prefer clowns to bores, I get that.

No it wouldn't. the football was fuckin crap last season and Johnson made it up as he went along.   We lost to every single team in the league and couldnt beat the team bottom of the table over 3 games.  But aye we beat hertz 1-0 after they sacked their manager and a celtc team on holidays so great eh?   Forget about being humiliated in the league cup, Scottish Cup, Parkhead, pbs and a bottle job againt 10 men hertz to make 4th (wow) deciding to put on Devlin up top instead of the actual striker we had on the bench and that's even before we could look into not giving Fish a chance apart from right back and hooked (meant) at half time for half a season while persisting with Donkey Bushiri.

There were even some defeats/draws last season that were more exciting than the majority of Ross’ football, Johnson has a clear style, I’m not for one second suggesting that he’s perfect but he’s a tenfold improvement on Ross.

Ross failed to finish in the top 6 in his first season, getting pumped at home to a Hearts team that couldn’t buy a win, secured 3rd via default in a season that doesn’t really count anyway before more dismal boring football without results.

The league is clearly a lot stronger last season than it was the year before, we had some truly shite spells, no getting away with that but overall it was a lot more fun to watch, there were some decent results and we secured Europe (in the exact same round as we did in 2020/21 btw.)

If you’ve actually watched Matthew Hoppe you’d probably realise why we chucked a centre half up front and if you’ve actually seen Rocky since the summer you’d know that he’s a different player to last season. If he’d stayed fit there’s a fair chance he would have been our PoTY.

Jeezo mate, your takes on here are suspect at the best of times but that’s a shocker of a post.

  19. 13 hours ago, Hoose Rice said:

He had a point about Ross.  Look who we have appointed since.

Sounds a bit personal your dislike of McManus.  I'll leave you to it.

Would rather have Lee Johnson every day of the week than that boring b*****d.

Would argue that last seasons team would beat Jack Ross’ team that finished 3rd, better style of football, actual tactics rather than just hoping that Boyle/Nisbet do something.
