Yes he was at the club for over 10 years and supports us.   He speaks about us on the media platform he uses also instead of other former players who only want to talk about the weegie rats.  Dont mind Tam at all.  We have been shite for 2 years and hes called it.  We have spent money but on absolute crap until Youan.

2 years ago he was crying about us sacking Jack Ross, a man who has gone on to sensational things since he was sacked.

Would rather we bought 15 Momodou Bojangs than paid his wages working at HibsTV (albeit I’m aware he was punted, thank you Ben Kensell).

He cares about the club and talks a load of shite same as all of us on this thread.  Fair play to him getting paid to do so.

Does he really have the affinity to the club though? The guy played for us, yeah but he was mediocre at best and he’s not an Edinburgh lad or a Hibs supporter really.

I could probably write a list of about 40 or 50 ex-Hibs players that I would rather hear from on a regular basis, unfortunately however we need our social media feeds and internet algorithms clogged with his nonsense, if it was up to him Malky Mackay would have just led us to a 10th place finish.

  3. Now that the dust has settled I’m okay with that.

Result? Shite. Performance? Shite. Opportunity missed.

However 5th place means we’ll go into Europe seeded a round before Hearts do assuming Celtic win the cup, this likely means we’ll get 1 more European tie than they do which is superb.

Possibly more importantly it means Naismith will likely end up getting the job permanently, this is terrific news, have seen Hearts three times under his management and they have been truly awful.

Think in the long run this will turn out well for us.

LJ has a 40% win percentage in his first season in the league at Hibs, which also happens to be near enough his career win % and his age.

Despite being 500+ games in, he's still a young manager and while I'm not excited by his Hibs team yet, he has shown that he can beat Hearts, beat Celtic, get top six and likely Europe.

We can't say that about a number of our previous managers, especially in their first season, given that many of them didn't last much beyond a full season.

Like a broken clock is right twice a day here are myself and yourself agreeing about something.

  5. It’s a free hit because Hearts have been above us all season and it would be hilarious if they fucked it, absolutely 0 Hibernian supporters expected us to finish above Hearts this season, the fact we have a chance to do so is funny in itself.

With the assumption that Celtic win the cup, it really makes very little difference who 4th and who gets 5th, a hundred grand or something extra.

However Steven Naismith will know that if he loses this he doesn’t get the job, the Hearts supporters are clearly shit scared of finishing below us considering how bad Hibs fans think they are and how good Hearts fans have been saying that they are.

Of course on the day I’ll be right up for it however it’s the most relaxed I’ve gone into a derby in years.

  6. Deary dear I was not expecting that.

Thats probably the most I’ve enjoyed a game of football since before covid and probably even the Lennon days at that as Ross and Heckingbottom never really gave us that much to shout about, it was reminiscent of the Mowbray/Collins days where we’d pummel a team at the famous five end of a second half.

    Few things to note:

If Lewis Miller is that good why have we not played him this season?

Jimmy Jeggo has to be no more next season, we improved loads after he went off.

Elie Youan has finally scored a goal when I’m not on holiday and seen it in the flesh.

What a contribution Scott Bain has made to Hibernian FC over the years, that man is Hibs as f**k.

Hearts game is a free hit now, win and it’s hilarious, lose and we’re probably in Europe anyway.

Can people please stop shouting for Lee Johnson out every time we lose now? He’s not perfect but there’s clearly and improvement isn’t there?

  7. I’m pretty ambivalent on Johnson either way, so many people love him one minute then hate him the next.

Continuity into next season may actually help us and I feel more confident with McDermott in the building.

Regardless though games against the old firm are fucking pointless and boring, sooner they both f**k off to England/A Super League/A separate league where they just play eachother every week and growl at eachother constantly, the better.

FWIW I think we’ll lose tomorrow and Saturday and possibly finish 6th, that said, I probably still wouldn’t sack Johnson, not that I’m a huge fan bit sacking managers constantly doesn’t achieve anything and I really cannot be arsed with another summer of transition.

  8. Murray Johnson been sent on loan to QoS for the season next year.

Intrigued to see how he gets on as there’s really high hopes for him, still only 18 and seemed to do a superb job for Airdrie last season when he had his emergency loan spells there, bearing in mind he was 17 at the time.

Got a contract with Hibs running until 2027.

  9. On the topic or red cards, is someone more clued up than me able to explain why the boy who handballed it for the penalty wasn’t sent off?

Surely if it’s a handball stopping the ball going into the net it’s a red card?

Or is the fact it was deemed unintentional the reason why it wasn’t a red?

  10. Just now, Mr November said:

We play a very expansive, attacking 4-3-3 at the moment with the wide forwards pushing very high and the two advanced midfielders finding pockets of space. I’m guessing O’Connor might be used out wide and Aiken through the middle based on that?

It’s a weird time to announce the signings but I do think whatever league we’re in we’ll be an attractive club for loans, as teams will want players playing in his style of football.

Seems pretty feasible, most of the time I’ve seen O’Connor he’s played through the middle but I think he can and has played wide before also.

Would definitely say Aiken looks more of an advanced midfielder that’s pretty talented on the ball and does a lot of running.

Obviously this all comes with the caveat that Championship/League 1 is a better standard than the UEFA Youth League.

  11. Intrigued to see how O’Connor & Aiken get on with you guys next year.

Watched them both a fair bit this season in the UEFA Youth League.

Murray Aiken played in the middle of the park/as a number 10 when I saw him and particularly against Molde he played absolutely out his skin and was the best player on the pitch, at the risk of sounding “yer da” he probably does need to bulk up but he’s a good dribbler and quite nimble on the ball, the way he moves on the ball almost reminds me of Dylan McGeouch. Hull offered us a few hundred grand for him in January and it was assumed he was signing a pre-contract there but we’ve obviously convinced him to stick around.

O’Connor is intriguing given his connections with his dad but he’s absolutely nothing like him in terms of style, he’s small, slight but very quick and a good ball carrier, has featured a couple of times in the first team too and did well to win a penalty against Aberdeen.

Will be keeping an eye out.

  12. Pittodrie is one of only three grounds in Scotland I’ve seen Hibs play a competitive game at but I’ve never seen Hibs win at (other two being Tannadice & Parkhead).

So on that basis and that basis alone, we are due a win here, I know we won during covidball but that season doesn’t count.

Looking forward to my trip up the road and multiple beers although I’m fully expecting the police being utter arseholes to everyone travelling after the young team having a big scrap last time so I am mentally prepared for that.

A point would be decent, a win would be sensational.

  13. Brian McDermott new DoF it seems, fairly decent record in management albeit out the game for the past few years.

Been a chief scout with Arsenal until 2020 but looks like he’s been doing consultancy work since, been around the block and will definitely have a good book of contacts, fairly okay with that at this stage but time will tell.
