The Dundee United Thread 22/23
East Coast Warrior replied to Twinkle's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
Always feel Scott Robertson gets overlooked when thinking back to that Cup winning squad. Gomis/Buaben were a dream pairing for us, but Robertson was still a very, very good midfielder for us at that time. Rankin came across like he had a more professional attitude than most. You need someone like that in a squad to lead by example. Decent player too, as you say. -
That tv channel with its ad break music is ridiculously tinpot.

Boy done the main job he needed to. If the Belgian side can actually create chances, he’ll score plenty. If they play like we did last season, : he’ll struggle. His quality isn’t in question, it’s purely a supply thing from United. Some games we didn’t even register a shot last season!! -
Aberdeen v Dundee Utd

There's not dread or excitement. The flattest feeling going into a new season. It feels very underwhelming, no buzz at all. -

They rattled buckets to get that fans handout earlier in 2021 (Jan/Feb?) And what’s really changed that will create lots of chances for Shankland? I don’t see anything that won’t make us any less toothless in attack. The big summer signing for our attack has been Pawlett, on less money. It doesn’t scream flush. -

Sounds exactly what we’d jump on to be honest. We seem to love being broke and at the same time pissing cash down the drain! -
Optimisim levels

I think we'll be relegated . It really does feel like there's minimal to be optimistic about. -
Dundee United's Next Permanent Manager

Expect nothing but a massive implosion this season. Seems such a foolish appointment. -

Having seen how a cheap/second-rate SRU yes man went down with the Warriors this season in the rugby, I was really hoping to avoid a similar (swap SRU with Ashgar) scenario at United. Courts comes across as such a cowardly (anticipated) appointment. -

There must have been some push back from Mellon over something but I doubt it would be Pawlett, he played him quite a lot. Be more likely for not buying into the self-proclaimed/smoke-and-mirrors 'world class' youth project. Some 'yes man' will put in place to make sure that gets used more often next season. It's. recipe for disaster if they start thinking every youth is going to make it. -
We are now even for the time you battered us earlier in the season and we stole a point late at Tannadice! Thought we looked quite promising with the young boys playing the attacking roles. Great to have a bit of width with Chalmers again. Tailed off true to form second half as the usual suspects were introduced which was disappointing but not unexpected.

Crashed the site. That’s an achievement! -

Little consolation to the boys on here, but you's called this weeks ago. Expecting this when you's looked - to an outsider - fairly comfortable. Probably not the only one to think you's were just being dramatic but f**k sake. It's been a car crash of a promotion push at the crunch end of a season. -

Two year deal for Pawlett. (Official FB) Ridiculous they have begged for handouts this season then give two years to a player who has (being generous) “majorly underperformed”. There’s really no justification to keep any of this season’s attacking midfielders!! -

Pawlett is somewhere between massively unambitious and bewildering waste of money. I wouldn't have been racing out to renew any of our 'creative' player deals when we've struggled so much to create chances. What a poor, poor new deal to sign from United's point of view. -
That was a corner shop not a closed shop so it was all fine!

I want to watch all the carnage from afar. Mon the Super League! Just leverage and threats for the discussions and votes on CL that are coming up surely.

We’ve been “probably safe” for weeks the way split has everyone taking points off each other but it’s still good to be “mathematically safe”. Did Hoti show anything when he came on? Hopefully we’ll use the remaining league games to try some of the other options, risk free. -

Absolutely hate the wee mismatch in equal fixtures the split can throw up. As 'off the boil' Celtic and Aberdeen have been, that's probably the most credible back to back results we've had as a United team that's not the finished article. Doubt many would have fancied us for a return of two clean sheets and 4 points. Well worked goal yesterday too. -
re. Wilson being an imposter Absolutely. The new signings for next season seem quite promising being additions in the right areas, but I just have absolutely zero confidence in him and his staff being the ones to get results from them.

We could get points deductions for fielding an ineligible player or something stupid. It wouldn’t be the first time and could help win that unlikely 1000/1 bet.
