  1. That game had serious Kilmarnock 2.5 weeks ago vibes. Came out all guns blazing and dominated early on but seemed to run out of gas. Really need to manage the game better or use the 5 subs at our disposal and get fresh legs on. Very happy with the result though.
  2. It’s pretty obvious why - 7.05 kick off (why?) on a Tuesday night, and a 3 hour drive from Arbroath, hardly convenient. I would have gone but was working until 6:30. Why are you not asking why Inverness have what looks about 800 fans at home for such a big game?
  3. Absolutely. There’s no reason we couldn’t go full-time now. Our turnover must be similar to Ayr, QoS, Raith, Morton etc - however imo it would be a mistake and weaken our main strength. I would though, depending on continued relative success, like us to seriously look at a hybrid setup - with that I think you could have the best of both worlds.
  4. As said by others, I’m also getting a bit scunnered by all this OTT fairytale stuff. If anything, Arbroath fc has massively underperformed for decades, aside from the wee 2 season cameo in the second tier in the early 2000s. Yes it would be a huge achievement as Scottish football in the modern era is very much skewed towards full time sides but plenty of other part-time sides have been in the top division, even since reconstruction in ‘76. Having said that, in the very modern era it’s incredibly difficult to compete with full-time sides over a season. If it wasn’t then plenty of other teams would have done it in the last 20-30 years. I would love it if our success this season acted as a catalyst for more part-time sides to be a bit more ambitious.
  5. It’s brilliant. I didn’t need another guitar but when Fender released it I just had to get one. My favourite guitar shape with my favourite pickup. Here’s a better picture of it with my Harley Benton TE-52. Very little in it between these guitars in regard to build quality and playability. If anything, the HB has a slightly nicer finished neck, the only down side is it weighs a ton.
  6. The Gayfield pitch isn’t particularly narrow. The playing surfaces at ICT and Arbroath are very similar - the same length, Gayfield is a whole 3m narrower 105x65 & 105x68. Hibs fans were going on about the Gayfield pitch being tight before our cup game but it’s larger than many premiership pitches - Tynecastle, Dens, Tannadice, Pittodrie etc and very similar to others.
  7. What a great thread, only just found it. I’ve been playing on and off for nearly 40 years and currently own 4 electrics - pictured are 2 of mine: the sonic blue Schecter Strat, from 1978 (when they were building kit parts), it’s finished with Tokai pickups and various Fender bits. And my Fender Noventa Telecaster - probably the best guitar I’ve owned, plays great and the single P90 sounds amazing. The white Strat is a 1963 Fender which, unfortunately, isn’t mine, I had a loan of it for a couple of weeks off a guy I did some work for. It’s had a paint job refinish so is “only” worth about £7k. It was incredible and oozes mojo. I also have a Harley Benton TE-52 Tele which is probably 95% as good as my Fender in every way - a truly astonishing guitar for the price. My 4th guitar is an Epiphone Les Paul Junior which is also much better than its cost suggests - it’s currently in bits as I’m doing major mods to it, pretty much changing everything apart from the body and neck. Soon to press the button on a Fender GTX100 amp as I only have a small practice one at the moment. Anyone got experience of using it?
  8. Great thread and some absolute stinkers - Bobby Conn the massive exception, a brilliant song (particularly the proper lyrics) and magic video. Didn’t notice this imposter anywhere. Truly dreadful song writer and lyricist. Easy on the eye but awful. I’m sure she’s likely had worse than this one but I couldn’t believe how sh1t this was when it came out, heard it on the radio recently and my god it’s even worse than I remember.
  9. Really? Imo one of the great pleasures in life is going for a few beers before and after the match. Once I’m through the turnstiles it’s the game I’m interested in, plenty of time for a drink after. As I said in my original post, maybe we’re spoiled at Arbroath having quite a few decent pubs very close to Gayfield. We did, until 3 or 4 seasons ago, have a bar in the stand and I quite liked having a pint in there before kick off and it gave a bit of money to the club, but it was a proper bar with glasses and a choice of drinks. If alcohol was brought back in Scottish grounds then I’m sure it would be expensive, sh1t quality lager in plastic cups like down south. Is that worth getting worked up about for the sake of a couple of hours?
  10. Agree. Don’t understand this idea that not being able to drink in a ground is a big deal. Given the option of going to a local pub pre/post match and getting a decent pint and big choice of drinks or paying a premium for a watered down pint of ??? Most likely in a plastic tumbler at the ground - there’s only one winner. Maybe we’re spoiled in Arbroath as I can think of at least a dozen decent pubs within a 10-15 walk of Gayfield. The only reason I would drink in the ground would be to give £ to the club but give me a proper pub or club social-club any day. Also, if you can’t go around 2 hours without a drink then you may have a problem.
  11. No one is saying he hasn’t done a decent job so far. Personally I think it’s lazy to award it to someone who’s achievement this season to date is beating a poor Hibs team 2-1 in the League Cup final. Theoretically, Rangers could still win the league, Scottish Cup and Europa League, and Arbroath could win the playoffs. Would look like a ridiculous award then.
  12. Exactly - an Amazonian tribesman who’s had zero contact with the outside world could take Celtic or Rangers to at worst second place. Christ, even Peter Grant would have them miles ahead of the competition.
  13. I never meant that Hartley, Thomson or Murray should have won. I said that imo they, and Neilson, achieved as much in their respective leagues as was expected or hoped for just like Postecoglou. The only manager that should have won is Campbell as he has taken his team way above expectation. Seriously, where is the achievement in winning a 2 horse race…. Which he may still lose? ETA - I knew that Campbell wouldn’t win, even if we won the title, and I said so in a previous post a couple of weeks ago.
  14. Yes I agree that they have achieved what was expected but their budget advantage wasn’t anywhere near what Rangers and Celtic have. To reward a guy who wins a two horse race that hasn’t been won by another team for near on 40 years is a joke. At the start of the season Celtic had no less than a 50% chance of winning the title. Wow what an achievement!!
  15. Ludicrous decision. Imagine if we go up in the playoffs or if Rangers pip Celtic to the title or even win the Europa League. I wouldn’t even have had Postecoglou in the top 3. Campbell, Hartley, Thomson and even Neilson or Murray have done arguably more without the massive budgetary and “other” advantages. Winning a two horse race isn’t exactly a huge achievement is it?
  16. I don’t think it’s a case of the club reneging on this. Looks like they made a simple mistake thinking that playoff games for the Premiership could be included on the season ticket. My understanding is that it’s a Premiership rule and nothing to do with our board and I don’t think there’s anything they can do about it unfortunately. I do think a bit more transparency and communication would be welcome though.
  17. Arbroath don’t have any youth players. We have a squad of 20/21 and that’s it.
  18. Why would it be a laugh? Surely we’ve not seen enough of him to form that kind of opinion. I thought he looked quite lively when he came on v Hibs.
  19. Now that the dust has settled a bit after Friday, is it time to talk about this yet? I want us to try 100% to win every game but we really need to rest a good few players for this and wrap them in cotton wool for the playoffs. Not sure if anyone picked up any significant injuries v Killie but obviously Gaston needs rested. Craigen could barely run when he was subbed and I’d be tempted to rest Low, Chris Hamilton, one or both of Little/TOB (half a game each perhaps?) and Jack Hamilton. Bring in JT, Henderson, Gold, Hilson (if fit), Wighton and Antell with significant game time for Ford, Bakare, Linn, and most definitely a well deserved appearance from Swankie at some point in what could well be his last game for us. Not sure if I’d rest Stewart or McKenna, again maybe a half each. This may all be conjecture though depending on player availability.
  20. His company, Megatech are our main sponsors.
  21. I take it you’ll be looking forward to seeing how hybrid Cowdenbeath get on in the playoffs? They have more full-time loanees than us and that seems to be the thick Killie fans’ argument.
  22. I live in Aberdeen and finishing at 12:00 - if that B*stard keeps me a minute late, I’ll be raging… … I’m self-employed
