Things are shaping up but we are still looking very light in numbers.

Last season we had a squad (players listed for matches) of 26.

This season we have a squad on the official site of 27.

We have 4 keepers this season instead of 3 last season.

If (as the Board stated) lack of strength was the reason for our collapse last season, How does having an extra keeper remedy this?

Calm!!!! Its only the 11th July! ok, we have a couple of cup games at the end of the month, but the league is 4 weeks away from starting - thats ample time to bring in 2 or 3 more players. There wll be a few premier league clubs who will wait to see their young lads in pre season before deciding who they will loan out, and thats probably where we will have an opportunity to pick up a couple of players

If Campbell signs up as well, as seems likely, we'd be starting the season with a first-team squad of 20 (including three 'keepers, Callaghan and Vaughn but no other youngsters, and including Ellis but not Murray).

That's bigger than we've started the season with at any time in recent years.

Whats your thoughts on david bates folks meant to be comin on loan too Montrose?

Not seen much of him, played the whole game against Edinburgh City on Wednesday night there, not the quickest by the looks of it (either that, or their number 9, Alum was a total speedster)

Given that we've now signed a player who can fit into left midfield, I'd be happy enough if Murray signed Campbell to add to the squad. I was worried we'd be going for the "Jack of all trades, master of none" route which we adopted midway through last season with McCann and Mullen.

Its telling we also have signed a few players who can play in a few positions which is usually a McGlynn esk trait in signings. If Campbell does sign that's also someone who can play out wide so realistically it would probably be a loan signing we bring in afterwards as backup tho the Conroy signing does really make things interesting

Just a youngster, 18 or so, not ready for our first team yet but getting a few first team games with you boys should bring him on. Good first touch but not the quickest hope he serves you well though!

If you look at our likely bench for the first game of this season vs that of the opening day of last season, we are a wee bit better off.

Could still do with some back up in the wide areas for me, To have the same problems as last season where Anderson/Cardle were well out of form but couldn't be dropped would be criminal. I realise Callachan and Scott could play there if necessary but they're not wingers - likewise Stewart and Campbell (if signed) could fill in too, but that's very much going down the route of Gordon Smith playing there. Some genuine competition in those areas would be very welcome, even if it's a season-long loan.

Also not too mad about Archie Campbell, he's turned us down before and had a poor season last time out where he couldn't even get a game for that rank Morton side. He's shown he's better than that in the past though so willing to see what he's all about before really judging - I think the fact Murray has him on trial rather than signed up at this stage shows he feels he has to prove his worth too.

Will probably pop down to Stark's tomorrow, looking forward to seeing the newbies in action.

49 first team games in five years, at least the boy will be fit (hopefully).

It's Ryan Conroy! Wasn't expecting that!

Yay, a winger!

Aye but he can play fullback as well. Good signing for you I would have liked him back down at Palmy. Thought he did really well last time he was here.
