I don't know what sort of research exists on it. Instinctively though, it seems to me that while background features do indeed have a huge impact on exam performance, at least on the day itself, in terms of assessment conditions, the playing field is level. That of course doesn't make up for all the other influences, but it does impose some parity at the crucial end-game stage. The more we base it on coursework composed elsewhere however, the more it seems to me that we're inviting the inequalities we know of, to assume a yet greater importance. I also have some extra courses, which also take time but provide me with useful skills for the future. I have a history class where we discuss a lot of interesting things. The last summer assignment was dedicated to social classes, and I found so much new info for me. Such tasks are not that related to my major, but still, they all help me with self-improvement and will certainly help me in the future. Thanks for providing it. I'm actually not surprised that medicine is on top. But it's kinda interesting that geography is in 6th place, I thought that it's not that profitable sphere. In the summer when sorting out student finance, he ticked the box for SAAS to pay his fees, but didn't tick the student loan box. How hard can this be to fix, I wondered. Fucking difficult. We spent about 90 minutes last night trying to find a link or something to allow him to apply for one. Eventually we found he has to fill in a form and upload it to SAAS. Why, you might ask, would they do this? They wrote a huge chunk. He then asked for a data set to be provided. They did so - but then he didn't pay them for it. Cheerio, chum.
