Bel's butchers the day. Prices have shot up since last time but still a mighty fine BBQ pulled pork peh and a steak n gravy bridie.

£66 for 5kg of chicken breast is a scary scenario though.

Maths isn't my strong point, but £4/1.8kg chicken seems the best deal. (Morrisons)

Aye, supermarket chicken is a great deal but standard of it is a bit meh. I used to get 5kg for like £30 from Brakes but my guy got sacked. Possibly for stealing chicken.

Supermarket chicken may be shite, but will do 3 meals for a skint chef.

I've found the quality of butcher meat has dropped everywhere. Used to be a clear difference in quality with supermarkets, but no longer. Campbells sausages in particular are dreadful now.

Some amount of water comes out the supermarket stuff though.

Lots of butchers just resold vac pack stuff they bought wholesale anyway- maybe with the odd store made sausage thrown in, for appearances sake.

The animals just don't seem to try as hard these days.

Our neighbours have a Bassett Hound that's the size of a St Bernard. Is this normal? I'd always thought they were fairly wee. Freaks me out when I'm doing the dishes and it's out in the garden, as I think my sense of depth perception has fucked up due to a tumour or something.

I'd take a picture but I don't want @Hedgecutter knowing where I live.

Bassett Hounds should have ears that are the same length as their legs..

Not in my experience, still superior to supermarket stuff

Not seen him yet today, but I don't remember them looking proportionally different to what I'd expect from a Bassett.

Apparently it's not that uncommon for them to grow to that size and they're considered a medium/large breed, so I guess I've only seen the wee ones. He's quite a chonky boy too, which probably helps with the overall Dogzilla look.

I'll just try to grab a picture. As DA says, Hedgecutter has detailed files on us already.

Chap i worked with in my first job had a Bassett Hound. He also had twin sons. One day he was giving another employee a lift and mentioned "Hector" who was the Bassett Hound. Andy looked round into the back seat where the twins were and asked "Which one's Hector?".

We have an enormous Bassett Hound across the road from us.  My other half tells me the horrible winding tar marks along the middle of the pavement are the result of broadband cable installations, but I'm convinced it's the council infilling the trough caused by this lump of canine flab* getting taken out for a walk.

*not a hate crime

Happy Thatcher's dead day x.

You're a day late 😞. As long as she's still dead the date is irrelevant I suppose.

I find that's just with the packs of breasts, not if you buy a whole chicken. I only ever buy whole chickens these days, partly for that reason.
