Never went to the cinema to see it and kept well clear of the thread on here so I didn't spoil it for myself. Whilst it was a great film, I was left feeling a little disappointed that the main aim of the film was not some bad guy trying to take over the world, or trying to steal hunners of money. Just didn't feel like a real Bond without that. I haven't seen Skyfall yet actually, but while it's Daniel Craig as Bond, it won't feel like a real Bond, for me. The Bourne Collection took off between Die Another Day and Casino Royale, so the makers probably felt that the public wanted their Bond less comical and more brutal. Agreed: (don't open following if you haven't seen film, you've been warned) The revenge against M should have been a diversion for loading up the space station with nukes and bombing China or blackmailing for squillions. I accept that product placement happens, I just get pissed off when it's in an otherwise serious movie / scene. Plus the dialogue in Skyfall was chronic at times. I really expected more from it than it delivered. Its is, however, very heavy on the product placement (I remember very large 7-up billboards just happening to be wherever bond was in that film). I'm not sure there is a later Bond that isn't. I may be wrong. I agree with you on Skyfall though*. You Only Live Twice will never be bettered in my opinion. *The villan's island hideout was classic bond though and a great location, made all the sweeter for me by having visited there last summer.
