As someone who's used to looking at palaeogeographic maps, it took me about 30 secs to clock what that's all about. ph34r.gif

Eta: Ah, I was only looking at the lower 2/3rds of the image. That lake in the shape of Greenland's a bit of a giveaway!

Sorry if I'm being dense, but I don't really get it

It's a map of the world but the oceans have been replaced by land and vice versa?

Is what I saw straight away. Isthere more to it than that?

That's exactly it.

the oceans and land masses have been turned inside out, so that submerged geography becomes exposed mountains and existing land masses become bodies of water

I occasionally wonder who decided that we're in the northern hemisphere and not the south. World map could have so easily looked like this.

Weird, eh?

All the important bits are at the top.

I could be wrong, but I think Australia does have their world map like that. A bit as a GIRFUY type gesture. Which is fine.

Pretty much, if the two changed that's how it would look. Presumably they did some smart shit with the mountain ranges and all that.

On the map Supras has posted, there is no correlation between height/depth of the land and ocean. There's a random ocean trench in the middle of South America (where the land is neither particulary high or low) and the Marianas trench runs from the Black Sea to Northen Russia. They've just copied and pasted sections willy nilly.

Still quite cool though.
