The Falkirk FC Thread

Recommended Posts

Peter Grants cup final header is the single best moment of my time watching Falkirk.

In that split second I was 100% convinced we would win the cup and I celebrated like we had.

Agreed, my auld man still thinks that was his best chance at seeing us lift the cup in his lifetime. Which is quite shite considering he’s only in his mid 50s.

I’ve been fairly lucky considering Falkirk have been to 3 Scottish cup finals since I was born. Senor Bairn Senior had to wait till he was in his 30s for his first one [emoji1]

Anytime I see big Peters goal, the noise gives me shivers, utter class.

I watch to that point, then I stop watching as the gut sinking realisation kicks in "JUST FUCKING FOUL HIM DAVID, RUGBY TACKLE HIM"

yep exactly this.  I also have that feeling of I'll never get a chance as good as that to see us win a major trophy.

Its also similar to that Scotland -England game a few years ago when Leigh Griffiths scored the free kicks but they equalised at the end - although admitedly I don't care too much about Scotland Internationals these days but living down in England I did get sucked into the emotion of that moment before we f*cked that up as well.

That all too brief moment of feeling something is going to go in our favour for once, is inevitabley shattered..

It was a fair roar when you boys equalised.

Yep. By miles.

Not being melodramatic here, but the savage ending to that final has genuinely fucked it for me. Never been the same since; I will never let the game affect me that much again. Even last season's extended fisting didn't bother me as much as it should have.

I reckon that was the best chance of us lifting the cup in my lifetime and I'm in my mid 30's.  😥

Would've been bad enough if an ICT boy had scored a worldie like Nacho Novo but to make such a mess of it ourselves really summed us up.

Yeah three for me too...

1st one v Killie, i was young, didn't really think about it too much, was also quite pished.  Was disappointed but it didn't affect me too much

2nd one against that lot, didn't expect anything.  Thought we were unlucky but dealt with it

3rd one -I'm a wee bit older  , the nature of the defeat - still haunts me.

3 for me.

The Kilmarnock game was the first time I cried at football.

Like most, I didn't expect much against Rangers but after the performance we put in and Lovell's chance at the end, I was pretty gutted.

I still haven't recovered from the 2015 cup final. I've never felt like that after a game of football.

From the sheer joy of Peter's header to the utter emptiness of the winning goal and final whistle.

3 cup finals for me as well. I was an embryo in 1957 but I don't think that counts as my mum wasn't at the game.

Kilmarnock was a bummer as we were robbed by a non existent offside, R@nger$ was harder to take because we played them off the park but lost to a fluke goal and, again, were denied by an offside decision (correctly this time). ICT was sickening because we were on the front foot after big Peter scored and looked like we were going to win it as they were fucked at this point. McCracken should just have pulled the guy down. There was one very prominent P&B poster who was part of our group that was in tears at the end which was made all the harder too when I met some ICT fans after and congratulated them only to be met with their moans that they had such a long journey to get back home!

On a scale of 1 to 10, the pain of those three finals is:
2015 - 1 x 10^47
1997 - 9
2009 - 5

2009 was more painful that a 5 for me. It really drove home what an inconsequential event it was for rangers, when their fans basically started singing only with about 10 minutes to go. After everything we put in and how little they actually got against us, I was totally raging. Screamed at a guy wearing a dual scarf  on the way out as I thought he was a rangers fan. A dual scarf at a cup final? Wtf. A dual scarf with the rangers wt actual f. No need.
