A great feeling at Cappielow..

I'd think Murray would go to a bigger club, as I've said before, either in the SPFL Prem or down south. However, Morton have the backing of Rae who might be tempted to part with a bit of cash in order to get one of the best up and coming managers in the lower leagues.

Not a chance IMO. Maybe if it was still the same situation as three or four years ago he'd be tempted by the opportunity to work with a really good budget, but now Rae's rightly stopped chucking money around and our budget is in line with the rest of the division there's simply nothing attractive about the Morton job to someone already managing in this division, regardless of the opportunity to go full-time. Like Hartley, Murray would be mental to come here rather than holding out for a Premiership job.

At the same time these guys also know that it's not sensible to stick around at a part-time club for too long. Managers like Hartley, Cameron, and Murray are getting as much out of the part-time clubs as possible at the moment, the reality is that the part-time clubs inevitably fall back to near the bottom of the table. The other problem is that it isn't common for top flight clubs to pick up a manager from a part-time team, giving them the first opportunity at managing a full-time club in the top league is a risk that many clubs aren't willing to take. Danny Lennon would seem to be the exception in recent years. How realistic is it for those 3 managers to believe that there is a top flight job just down the line for them?

The reality is that if Morton offer a good wage then there's a good chance that they would see it as an oppotunity to cut their teeth in full-time management. At this moment in time they know that guys like Grant Murray, Alex Neil, and Gary Holt have a better opportunity to prove themselves to bigger clubs. Unless they're really happy with their life managing a part-time team then at some point they know they have to take a risk - which will come either at one of the full-time lower league clubs or perhaps as an assistant at a higher level.

The big problem for Morton is that this certainly wouldn't be a cheap option (in terms of wage, compensation, and offering the funds for players to turn things around), and it would have been far easier to convince someone to join us at the end of last season. It's far more likely that Morton will pick up someone desperate to get back into management, or someone looking for their first job (if/when Moore leaves by mutual consent).

The very fact that he's doing such a good job with a part time club in a mostly full time division will make the clubs in the division above notice him even more I'd think. I really don't see the need for him to prove himself at full time club in this division before anyone will take a punt on him. I think it's very realistic for Murray, Hartley and Cameron to think they'll have a good chance at getting a job in top league up here, all 3 have carried out good jobs at part time clubs and have them competing to stay in this division.

It's Wednesday and Moore is still employed at Cappielow. He must be driving a hard bargain for their "left by mutual consent". A lot of sweeties up for negotiation?

I think it might be more of a case of Dougie Rae, as usual, being a fucking simpleton.
