He was always going to have a tough task following David Moyes, but he really is having a bit of a shocker this season. Only QPR have conceded more goals than them now.

Can't say I'm too disappointed to see him struggling, in terms of wanky 'football philosophy' chat he's right up there with Brendan Rodgers.

And Newcastle and Burnley

I'd agree with the no clue on defence, but he seems to have tried holding back a bit this year and Everton are struggling. Should just go all out attack and would prob get a few more results.

its hard given the injuries the everton defence have had plus mccarthy is a big loss given how much he and barry played together last season

everton really could do with buying a proper centre half to compete with the two starters, as alcaraz is simply a league 1 defender at best

Distin is completely and utterly finished. Looks about 50 whenever he plays. Same with Barry actually.

Their squad isn't actually that good when you go and look at it. They aren't too far off where they should be with the players they have. Once you look past Baines and McCarthy, they are very ordinary. Similar squad strength to Swansea, Newcastle and Stoke, so they are just about in their natural position as far as I'm concerned, albeit underperforming slightly.

And yes, Lukaku for £28M was a dreadful signing, his technique is absolutely brutal. Hilarious to think that people used to think he would ever make it at Chelsea.

A player signed to Everton by Martinez, after helping to relegate Wigan while both were at the club.

Lukaku is still a player though - if things don't really work out, he would still be worth £20 million or so to another European side looking to bring out his initial potential: possibly either of the Milan sides. The fee in that context isn't actually poor for Everton, as he still has a healthy sell-on value.

On the other hand, it's another massive credit for Mourinho, who has managed to ship out Mata, Luiz and Lukaku for, what, £110 million combined? His judgement of a player at the top level is generally spot on, and yet he somehow still attracts very high fees for those he deems surplus to requirements. Since returning to Chelsea he has completely schooled the rest of the top level clubs in terms of transfer dealings, hence Chelsea's imminent dominance.
