Bring Back Paddy Flannery
That's the point I'm struggling to make. If he DOES want it I agree that there will be better candidates so he has little to encourage him to stay. Can't help but think he's the sort of guy who would appreciate being "passed over" for a position in a club where he already employed. Big difference between his positions at Ibrox and DFC: down here he'll consider himself a big fish (as well as having a face like an angry trout). He's probably just doing us a favour for a couple of weeks. It's an extra few weeks wages for a start, and would give him a chance to find something else whilst still being paid by us.Or could it perhaps be in his contract that he would oversee training temporarily until a new manager is found?

I assumed that he would be able to play for Celtic's first team and they had maybe recalled him due to only having 2 strikers. How do you know he's still officially with us? Is it listed somewhere? If you are out on loan when the window shuts then you cannot play for your own club's first team until the window next opens regardless of whether the loan is cancelled or not. The only point in a loan recall really in such circumstances then is if the player is going to go back on loan somewhere else instead. But under the new rules this season you can't even do that within the SPFL as emergency loans are no longer allowed so it only works if you are going lower than SPFL and I suspect Jack Aitchison's ambitions are a bit higher than that. Last year Joe Thomson went on loan to Livingston, didn't like it and got it cancelled after a month but couldn't play for Celtic either (not that he was ever likely to anyway). He was however able to join us on an emergency loan before the window reopened (and then joined us on full loan once it had opened). you can't do that this year though because emergency loans have gone. Likewise, we had Ewan Gourlay out on loan to Gretna for a while but was recalled as he wasn't getting a game and there was a loose intention he might go somewhere else. He never actually did and at the end of December the manager wanted to put him on the bench for the 1st team due to injuries. He couldn't because he'd been recalled from loan outwith a window. He had to wait for Jan 1st to get involved for the 1st team.

Is it different for'keepers? (Hope so, because at this rate we'll have a lot of them injured with bad backs caused by picking the ball out of the net so often.)

You are allowed a 7 day loan for a goalkeeper in cases of genuine emergency (previous the wording "Emergency Loan" was spurious and you didn't have to prove anything to get one). You now need a Doctor's certificate (or an international call up) to get the loan and it lasts a maximum 7 days at a time, though it can be renewed weekly with a new doctor's certificate. This is ONLY for goalkeepers though as it's considered specialist. If you are short of a right back it's expected another outfield player could fill in.

I'm desperate for the Airdrie rumours to be true, though. @optimistic where did you hear this? I hope you weren't going off my wildly speculative, based on absolutely nothing, prediction

Howlin' Wilf
The Airdrie fans are obviously in a ferment of excitement. No one has made a comment on their thread for 22 hours. Then again they probably have their own chat site.

++Ammo - Airdrie++
If I've called this correctly, it might be my greatest ever achievement [emoji38] ++Ammo - Airdrie++ I really hope you don't follow up on your promise. I'd get the bleach on stand by if I were you. The only thing that I've got to cling to, is that we are inviting applicants to apply for the job (like your good selves), if he was already lined up, why go to the bother and time wasting of this process when it could be time the new manager spends with his new squad.I sincerely hope the Stirling fans get their Aitken brothers dream team request. IMO Stevie has absolutely nothing to lose there. They're absolute dug meat just now so he can't possibly fail, and he's guaranteed a year anyway at least as 'they aren't his players".
