Boo Khaki
It's really difficult to understand how you can get stiffed in a trade when your partner is actively shopping their talent and clearly in fire sale mode. I'm not particularly a fan of McCaffrey, not because I don't think he's talented, but he plays a position that is still widely overvalued and he's barely able to stay on the field. The 9'ers obviously think this is an important pick-up to spend that much to get him, but I don't see the supposed value lent by 'he's cheap and risk free' argument. Even if they can cut him for next to no cost if he's a perma-crock, they still don't get those draft picks back. Interesting that the Rams were supposedly the other partner in the mix, as the 9'ers appear to have pulled off a very 'Rams-like' move here.
steelmen
Its the money he is due too. SF got out of cap purgatory with Jimmy G but straight back in with CMC 2022 - <1m 2023 - 11.8m 2024 - 11.8m 2025 - 12m
Boo Khaki
You'd think it's inevitable they'll try to renegotiate that, but if you're McCaffrey why would you entertain it? Unless the 9'ers are going to do something completely daft like give him 90% of that money as an up front signing bonus and pay him peanuts per game, why wouldn't he just stand pat and see out the contract? I mean, they can bomb him if he's awkward about it, but then they're still on the hook for any dead cap and they don't get the picks back. Actually, looking at his contract they wouldn't have any dead money to deal with if they cut him, but I don't see them paying him those full amounts from '23-'25, so a renegotiated contract would likely mean renewed cap implications, so in reality they have the option of cutting him and losing the picks, renegotiating and hoping he stays healthy and productive, or renegotiating a deal that can see him cut if he can't stay healthy, but then that still means a cap hit and lost picks. Just seems like they've taken a huge risk on a player who has never proven he can stay on the field. pozbaird
Spunking away draft picks and paying over the odds for a player with injury concerns. Nah, that’ll never catch on. 🫢
peasy23
You must be delighted with that!!!!On the playing side, absolutely. No doubt he is one of the best in his position. The flip side though is that in recent years he always seems to miss a big chunk of every season with injury.
Illgresi
Deebo, Kittle, Aiyuk, and now McCaffrey. That's some set of receivers/backs. The best thing about it, is how do you defend that? Is it 10 personnel, 11 personnel, 20? 21? 21 pony? All of the above? Just a pity about the QB situation. Fingers crossed McCaffrey stays fit, but he's looked strong and healthy from what I've seen of him this year so far. Edit: The question I'm wondering about now is, can we get Brian Burns as well? Can you imagine a DL with Bosa and Burns...that would just be unfair. Edited October 23, 2022 by Illgresi
peasy23
Russell Wilson has a partial hamstring tear so will likely be out for several weeks.

Panthers apparently see him as a key rebuilding piece (with good reason!) and won't be trading him.

Under normal circumstances I’d be gutted that after all this time waiting to see Denver in London again, I’d be watching them with the backup QB in place. Under current circumstances though, I’d rather see a fit starting QB. I expect a train wreck though.

strichener
Matty Ice done in Indy. I expect the GM and HC will follow him out the door at the end of the season.
pozbaird
Wilson is on the flight to London. Broncos website says he’s ‘day to day but his status is trending upwards’. Maybe by Sunday they’ll throw him in. Who knows, or, if you aren’t a Broncos fan, cares. Lose, and Hackett will surely get his jotters before wheels up at Gatwick.

Boo Khaki
The whole Wilson thing is bizarre. I watched every snap of the Chargers game and can't recall him ever looking like he'd suffered an injury or any play where is was obvious he had done something. Hammy injuries aren't the sort of thing you can just play through without it being obvious you are hurt, so it's strange that there was no announcement of or evidence of him being hurt in that game, and a few hours later he's announced as having a Grade 2 partial tear, an injury than normally sees you escorted off the field and out for a month or so.

Everything about Denver is bizarre at present, bar a hard working defense. Looking forward to my weekend no matter what, or how bad we are, or if it’s Wilson, Rypien, Thunder the Horse or one of the cheerleaders suited up at QB.

Enjoy, I’m off to NOLA tomorrow for saints/raiders game on Sunday, hopefully not a season ender, sitting bottom of division but 1 win off top. There’s still hope. Got a high school game on Friday night too, no idea who to see, been fed limited info up til now.
Brummie Clyde
NFC is weird this year. A load of teams with records like 3-4 and some of them will make the Playoffs.
