paranoid android
I wonder if deadasdillinger will be able to pinpoint the exact moment at which The Simpsons started to go downhill? Edited May 1, 2016 by paranoid android
Tamdunk
Barney: "Hey, Homer, I'm worried about the beer supply. After this case, and the other case, there's only one case left! Yeah, yeah! Barney's right! Yeah, let's drink some beer. What about some beer? Yeah, Barney's right." Homer: "All right, guys. Pipe down. I got some more in the garage."
Francesc Fabregas
I wonder if deadasdillinger will be able to pinpoint the exact moment at which The Simpsons started to go downhill? Isn't it generally considered to be somewhere around season nine with the episode "The Principal and the Pauper"? The quality between the season eight and nine is markedly different - Homer becomes a little crueler, a little more idiotic, celebrities pop up with greater frequency, Lisa appears to be on a crusade every week - and the whole thing rapidly declines from then on. The final episode of season eight, "The Secret War of Lisa Simpson", was broadcast in May 1997 - it's coming up for 20 years since the last genuinely wonderful episode of The Simpsons was made. It's still the greatest TV show ever made and seasons three, four, five, six, seven and eight are incredible, but everything after is just a giant drag.
Honest_Man#1
The series' mentioned there are almost all gold (as in every episode is great), but I'd argue that up until the end of series 11 there's still a few really good episodes in those series'.
Bobby Skidmarks
There's a heap of shite in there too though. I can't believe there was only 9 months between "You only move twice" and "Principal and the Pauper". What a fall from grace.

Antlion
If you listen to the DVD commentaries, you can actually *hear* the influx of new writers and producers not giving a shit. No wonder they stopped doing them entirely in the late teens. Season Ten was the last good season of the show (it had started to slip by then). Season Eleven managed a few laughs, but Season Twelve is garbage throughout and it has never recovered, veering from "Family Guy-lite" to "Saturday morning kids show" ever since.
Tamdunk
Was reading through an ask me anything on Reddit with Mark Kirkland a director on the Simpsons. It's painful stuff, the guy (or PR guy pretending to be him) doesn't get a single reference from the program.
