So much so we fking navigate with them? Yeah the ball earth and infact ball planets do seem strange especially now that we're being told the earth is actually an oblate spheroid. There are these people who study the universe and document what they find - these people are what are known as 'astronomers'. They use large cylindrical instruments to observe distant objects in our solar system and beyond - these instruments are called 'telescopes'.
