In 1956 Andrex, based in Britain but owned by American company KImberly-Clark, launched a new toilet roll.

The marketing was intended to make the purchaser believe they were wiping with a product that was exclusive to the intelligent but sales of "Brain Tissue" were so low that Kimberly-Clark withdrew the product after 3 months, suffering losses of $3.6 million.

Around 45 years ago, the sport of snooker had few rules. You were allowed to strike or pot any ball at any time, and even manoeuvre them with your hands into more favourable positions. Unruly players were even known to put some balls in a sock and strike their opponents across the head with them (as witnessed in the film Scum).

The game of snooker as we know it was ratified in 1970, following intervention by the Government regulatory body, OFSNOOK.

George from the children's television programme RAINBOW died from an AIDS related illness in 1989

He contracted it in 1977 from Sweep from The Sooty Show, who himself died a few years before George. That's why Sweep's voice didn't sound the same in the revamped 80s show; it was his cousin Roman (who was the inspiration for the bowling-mad c**t in GTA IV)

Steve Winwood is a major shareholder in Purina, the global pet care firm.

Steve Winwood also attempted to sue the Zutons for not paying him royalties for their song 'Valerie' before his solicitor pointed out that it was a completely different song and not a cover like Winwood immediately presumed.

The Zutons made reference to this during a show at the O2 Arena in Birmingham (Winwood's hometown) when they displayed pictures of Winwood whenever the song's "stop making a fool out of me" line was sung.

The song "We Didn't Start The Fire" was written in 1547 by Nostradamus. When Billy Joel's agent discovered it 450 years later, in a secret archive under an ancient cathedral in Provence, he immediately hid the precious prophecy, calculating he could make more money from it if released as a song.

Bluff.

It was actually written by Thomas Farriner, a baker, from Pudding Lane in London in September of 1666.

Beethoven's 5th Symphony wasn't written by Beethoven. It was co written by Haydn and Liszt.

Haydn died before Liszt was born, and after Number 5 was written.

But it is true that the music of Spice Girls song Wannabe is based on the notes for Beethoven's lost 11th symphony.
