......as opposed to what other stage of the season?

Was coming on to say that. It seems to apply right at the start of the season when things haven't settle down, during the winter months and towards the end of the season.

Another is managers/commentators saying that every ground, regardless of the opponents home record, is a 'hard place to come'.

'Hit the woodwork' annoys me. Its a fair enough expression just massively overused.

Is it though? How many goals are actually made of wood these days? The bars would snap given the pace some folk can hit the ball.
