Just a shame you couldn't pap down "your rivals" then thirdrock

I would have loved it if we'd downed them.

We were poor when they beat us the other week; TBF they tore us a new one.

They don't see us as rivals BTW, except when they beat us. Evidenced by loads of them at my workplace.

They were vocal when they won in November/March, but silent in August/January.

Sunglasses, beach balls and Speedos are available for a fair price.!

Dumbarton fans harbouring an urge to relegate Morton is like finding out that the creepy anorak guy in school held a mortal hatred against you. You want to dignify it just to avoid a complete mental breakdown on their part, but it's hardly even worth the effort.

White noise.

Oh the irony.

Good luck in the seaside leagues.

We didn't have a creepy anorak guy. They mostly wore duffel cotes or parkas in my day.

Issues that can be resolved:

Falkirk will clinch at least a playoff spot if they beat Queen of the South or if Dumbarton fail to beat Raith Rovers. Whilst it won't do officially, even a point will in reality do Falkirk given they are 22 goals better off.

Queen of the South would be officially out of contention for the title if they pick up one point less than either Hamilton or Dundee.

Morton will be relegated if they fail to win at Alloa or if Cowdenbeath beat Dundee.

Conversely of course, Cowdenbeath will confirm they are safe from automatic relegation with a win over Dundee or Morton failing to beat Alloa.

Alloa will be offically removed from the promotion race if they fail to beat Morton and even if they do win they'll still be officially removed if Queen of the South beat Falkirk. Realistically they'll also be removed if Queens draw or if Dumbarton win (which as Queens and Dumbarton have still to play one another would guarantee at least one of them reaching 49 points.

So,

Falkirk have clinched a playoff spot with their win at Palmerston. In doing so they also eliminated Queen of the South formally from the title race.

Morton are officially relegated and Cowdenbeath correspondingly now safe from the potential of automatic relegation.

Alloa remain technically arrive in both playoff fights after beating Morton combined with Queens loss. However, in practice Dumbarton's win eliminates them. Alloa can get 49 points but Queens and Dumbarton are both on 48 points and meet next weekend which means either one of them goes to 51 points and out of Alloa's reach or they draw and both move on to 49 points anyway (Queens have a game before then which may change things anyway). Given Queens goal difference is 21 goals better than Alloa's I think we can presume even with three other Queens losses and three Alloa wins it won't turn enough to give Alloa a chance.

Midweek Fixture on Tuesday:

Raith Rovers v Queen of the South

I'll update the whole division issues for next weekend after the midweek game which may already sort a couple of things out.

A Queen of the South win:

Technically would keep alive Queens outside chances of 3rd.

Alloa Athletic and Raith Rovers would be officially removed from the promotion playoff race.

A Raith Rovers win:

In practice this would clinch Rovers safety from the relegation playoff as they'd move 9 points ahead of Cowdenbeath with an 18 goal advantage in goal difference.

It would also keep alive Raith's outside chances of a promotion playoff spot.

A Draw:

Also officially removes Alloa Athletic and Raith Rovers from the promotion race.

Makes little odds at the bottom, though it would likely mean nothing other than 3 Raith losses and 3 Cowden wins could see Raith down.

Actually seeing this written down despite talking about it since Sat makes me alot more nervous about tonights game. After losing against Dumbarton any outside bet of reaching the promotion playoffs was put to bed, we just need to focus to get a win or scrape a draw tonight to see us through

I think a draw would still leave a 'possibility' of both Alloa and Raith with a 'chance' of reaching 4th. Probably unlikely(extremely) given the goal difference.

This week's fixtures:

Cowdenbeath v Livingston

Dumbarton v Queen of the South

Falkirk v Raith Rovers

Hamilton Academical v Alloa Athletic

Morton v Dundee

This week's possibilities:

The Title

Hamilton's dropped point last weekend has put Dundee into the driving seat but Falkirk's run of four straight wins has them still in contention also. Not much can be sorted out this weekend. If Dundee win and Falkirk lose the Bairns would be officially eliminated from the title race though.

Promotion Playoffs

Dundee, Hamilton and Falkirk are already confirmed as definite playoff sides if they don't actually win it. Nobody else can clinch a place this weekend but the Dumbarton v QoS game will see any winner a heavy favourite to make the last spot.

Technically everybody down to Alloa can still get 4th, though in practice their goal difference is already ruling Alloa out. They will be formally out of the race if they drop any points at Hamilton or if there is a winner in the Dumbarton v QoS match.

Raith will be eliminated if they fail to win and there is a winner in the Dumbarton v QoS match or if they lose and that match is a draw. In reality they'll also be eliminated by a Queens win even if they win themselves and probably by a Dumbarton one (they'd have to make up 6 points on Dumbarton and turn round an 11 goal deficit and also hope Queens didn't get 4 points in their last two games).

Livingston will be eliminated if there is a winner in the Dumbarton v QoS match and they fail to win themselves. In reality they will also be eliminated if they lose and that game is a draw.

Relegation

This is done. Morton were confirmed as relegated last weekend.

Relegation Playoff Spot

This is now effectively a two horse race, though Raith need a point to be formally confirmed as safe also. Cowdenbeath are 7 points adrift of Alloa and 9 behind Raith with three games to go.

A Cowdenbeath loss confirms them in the playoff spot.

A Cowdenbeath draw will in practice do the same given the goal difference though technically combined with an Alloa loss it would keep it alive.

If Cowdenbeath can win then Raith need a point to secure safety and Alloa need a win.

I think that's it!

Irrelevant now given that Raith won but no, it wouldn't have. If Queens and Raith had drawn in midweek then Queens would now have 49 pts, Dumbarton 48 pts , Raith and Alloa 40 pts. Given that Queens play Dumbarton this weekend there is no result that wouldn't have seen one of them move out of reach for both.

So, this week's results:

Cowdenbeath 4 - 0 Livingston

Dumbarton 0 - 3 Queen of the South

Falkirk 2 - 1 Raith Rovers

Hamilton Academical 2 - 1 Alloa Athletic

Morton 1 - 0 Dundee

Title

Nothing settled at the top. In fact it only got tighter with Falkirk joining what is now a three horse race thanks to Dundee's surprise defeat. Two points between the three teams with two games to go.

Promotion Playoffs

Queen of the South took a massive step towards securing the one remaining playoff place with their win at Dumbarton, their only credible challengers for it. Alloa, Raith and Livingston were all formally removed from the race on Saturday. Dumbarton can still get 4th but will need at least 4 points from two games against the top two and to hope Queen of the South get none (or Dumbarton win both games and hope Queens don't win either of theirs.

Relegation Playoff

Starting to get interesting with Cowdenbeath's 4-0 win over Livingston moving them to four behind Alloa with two games to go. The goal difference is so bad though that Cowdenbeath will certainly need two wins and to hope Alloa don't get any more than one point from their two.

Starting to clear up now, except at the top. Situation for the coming weekend, Match Day 35:

Fixtures

Alloa Athletic v Dundee

Dumbarton v Hamilton Academical

Morton v Falkirk

Queen of the South v Livingston

Raith Rovers v Cowdenbeath

Title Race

Incredibly tight in there and unlikely to be resolved this week but there is a possibility Hamilton could clinch the title and promotion. Victory for Accies at Dumbarton combined with a loss for Dundee at Alloa and Falkirk failing to beat Morton would see Accies crowned Champions. Unlikely but Morton's win over Dundee this week illustrates perfectly that anything can happen at this stage.

Promotion Playoffs

Queen of the South can clinch the final play off spot by getting a point more than Dumbarton on the day. In reality, given the 13 goal difference between the sides, even getting the same points would do so a win over Livingston is all Queens need, or for Accies to beat Dumbarton.

Relegation Playoff

Raith need a point to be formally safe but in reality are already there. Realistically to keep the race alive into the final week, Cowdenbeath need to win at Raith Rovers and hope Alloa lose to or draw with Dundee. Not the most impossible of outcomes on form. If that should come to pass then Cowdenbeath will finish their season at home to Queen of the South who will certainly be without two suspended players and may not risk any with knocks ahead of the playoffs whilst Alloa go to a Falkirk team that might still be chasing the title. Could get interesting............

Edited to add: Livingston have now officially joined Morton in playing for nothing and are the first team from the existing 10 to confirm they will join Rangers and Hearts in this division next season. In practice Raith are also in the same position but need a point to formally confirm it.
