New Strips for 2014/15

Recommended Posts

Hearts' new strip has set a new record for the club in pre-orders. Actually, it has done the previous record ten-fold. 4000 to the previous 400.

~£180,000 made before the strip has even went on general sale.

First edition of the kit was auctioned today for £2,015 according to JKB.

Will Hearts get a cut of that? Heard various stories about clubs getting between 0% and 15-20% of all shirt sells depending on the kit company and how much of an upfront 'downpayment' the club has received from the manufacturing deal.

I think with the club having no sponsor on the shirt we will make very little for the strips currently sold. I would imagine however that Adidas never paid us a deal that would forecast a 10 fold club record amount of pre-orders considering 400 was the previous and it was their first kit with us. So we may make a small sum from it.

The £2,015 was Hearts fans rally's auction and will go to FoH.

Am I right in thinking there is no shirt sponsorship deal in regard to the Hearts shirt? If so I can imagine that would help in shifting them. It was a bit of an embarrassment having a payday loans company sponsor a club in financial strife. I remember Intelligent Finance sponsoring Livingston when they had their financial worries and it was equally as laughable then.

I don't wear "leisure wear", for the lack of a better description, and haven't worn a branded football strip since I played in the Sunday leagues, and if I do any sport I wear non branded plain sportswear. However if I was to buy a football top one of the main things that would put me off would be the sponsor on the front (and not just the front, these days).

I appreciate clubs need to make money, but I just feel it's a bit of an insult to the fans assuming that their choice of sponsor is relevant to their lives.

Wonga are still the main sponsor and will be on the away shirt I believe.

Anything I have posted is merely a re-colour of a template.

I hope we don't end up with any of the 'Teamwear' kits - they're shocking!

netHibsHome3_zps35efd2b3.pngnetHibsHome4_zps917c0322.png

Wonga's deal is up at the end of this season, so it may be wise to purchase the home kit before a sponsorship is announced!

I stand by what I said on the other kit thread, the slogan is a bit dodgy (in my opinion) and the Adidas three-stripe spoils the 'vintage' design.

I don't think it comes close to the Umbro kit from 2011-12, just about every Umbro kit (under Nike) was excellent.

It seems like it's doing the job though and attracting a lot of praise from Hearts fans.

I think Hibs are about to pass up on a good marketing opportunity, where they could sell a similar 'vintage' kit.

Yesterday marked the 65th anniversary since the Famous Five played together, for the first time. A Nike template version could be something like this:

Hibs55MonDieu_zps39ca5a55.pngHibs55MonDieu_zps6b594423.png

Wonga sponsorship isn't up until the end of 14/15 season, they will still have their name on the away kit. The choice not to use it on the home top was a gesture by Wonga themselves.

As for the badge/slogan, this is taken directly from a mosaic on the floor within Tynecastle. It's not simply a contemporary idea to generate sales as some may think.

I've lost count the amount of times I've posted this - JD Sports have the rights to produce kits that can come out under three different guises - Fila, Diadora, and Carbrini. The kits are manufactured at their China plant, and there are no templates. JD Sports plant can manufacture 100% fully bespoke kits to clubs' exact specifications.

So, whatever you ask JD Sports to produce for you - they will. When I designed our 2012/13 kits, I asked for a round collar on the home kit, a V neck on the away kit, and a collar on the third kit. The home kit had 25mm wide black and white stripes (same width as our 1977 Fergie's Furies side), and the shorts and socks to be plain with a single black pinstripe. The red horizontal stripe on the all-black away kit was produced to the exact width I asked for, and the third kit was a homage to our original scarlet and blue hoops.

Anything I asked for, they could do it. Want pink with yellow polka dots? They could do it.

Down to the very last detail, everything was bespoke for St Mirren, so should be the same for any JD Sports supplied club. In regard to our new home kit - I have no idea if the design came entirely from JD Sports in-house designers, or if it came from our general manager Brian Caldwell, our commercial manager Campbell Kennedy, the directors, or maybe a combination of JDs in-house designers and someone in the club.

With Richard Atkinson and myself no longer involved, it's anyone's guess who was or wasn't involved this time.

Personally I preferred this years Away kit to last years with the black stripe. However, last seasons Home top was a piece of absolute art. Best St Mirren top in a long while. Perfect. Would love another one like it. Great work. :(

Appreciate the comments. I still can't believe I saw St Mirren win a major trophy wearing the strip I designed. For me, as a supporter and graphic designer, that was the stuff of dreams. Anyway - the main point I was making was in regard to any club supplied by JD Sports. Like we did in 2012/13 - there's no reason why clubs couldn't genuinely engage with the support and get JD to produce a kit that fans not only voted for, but actually participated in the design process.

For a club like Ross County for example, they could easily engage with their support by running a competition with fans drawing their own kit design and sending them in. The club then post their favourite five designs and fans vote for their favourite. As I said, with a 100% bespoke design service, JD could then manufacture the winning design exactly. Maybe County could give a prize of the new shirt to the winner, and a photoshoot with the five finalists and the team wearing the new shirt.... Good publicity IMHO.

Having a unique design and manufacture service is the major plus point of the JD deals. I don't understand why the clubs don't use it to their advantage and get supporters involved to utilise that aspect of the JD deal.

Really interesting to hear your insight, I often wondered how kits were designed/chosen. That St Mirren kit yous won the cup in was fantastic. Most fans like a simple kit that harks back to glory days and that was an excellent one.

It's very surprising that there isn't any sort of fan input to kit choices, especially as you say with these bespoke kits available to many clubs. Smacks of simple laziness from the clubs!!

I don't think County are too keen to engage with the fans on new kit designs after the Xara third kit debacle all those years ago. We have had four well recieved kits from JD so far, so someone at County is doing a good job with the designs. Hopefully the Cabrini efforts continue the trend.

No sign of the new strip from ICT, but new sponsor announced:

Subway to be Caley Thistle Shirt Sponsor

Scottish Premiership League club Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC have signed a deal by which the internationally-known SUBWAY® sandwich chain becomes their main sponsor for the 2014-15 season and beyond.

SUBWAY® stores have committed a six-figure sum to help manager John Hughes in his plans for the new campaign.

Caley Thistle chairman Kenny Cameron said: ”We’re delighted to sign a one-year rolling contract with such a prestigious sponsor.

“We’ve worked with the SUBWAY® brand at community department level for the past couple of years and built up a relationship which has encouraged them to take this much bigger step and be our shirt sponsor.

“The new shirt design, bearing the SUBWAY® logo, has been approved and will shortly go into production.

“We know that Liam Dalgarno of SUBWAY® stores takes his son to Caley Thistle matches, so he’s a genuine supporter, which is ideal for a principal sponsor, and has excellent ideas for interaction with our supporters.

“Our community coaches are halfway through taking the clubs Heart Research UK and SUBWAY® Healthy Heart project to all the 180 primary schools in the Highlands. This offers us the ideal launch pad for this new sponsorship partnership.”

The SUBWAY® brand has been working with Heart Research UK for the last five years, encouraging people to eat healthier and lead an active lifestyle. The SUBWAY® brand is also the only retailer on the high street to be able to sign up to UK Government Department of Health’s seven nutritional related pledges, encouraging people to eat and live in a healthier manner.

Liam Dalgarno, a former pupil of Hilton Primary School and Inverness Royal Academy, owns the three SUBWAY® franchises in Inverness plus one each in Aviemore and Elgin.

Liam is also the Development Agent for SUBWAY® stores in Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk, finding, recruiting and supporting franchisees and locations in that area.

Mr Dalgarno said: ”I’m extremely pleased that the SUBWAY® brand in Scotland has agreed to become the new shirt sponsor for Caley Thistle. This is a great club with considerable TV and media exposure and I hope this can be an excellent opportunity for both Caley Thistle and SUBWAY® stores in Scotland.

“I first met Kenny Cameron a few years ago when I took my wee boy to the stadium to buy a Caley Thistle strip and it is thus, as you can imagine, very satisfying to now be involved in this main sponsor arrangement.

“We’ve been impressed by the efficient way the club’s community department has been delivering the Heart Research UK and SUBWAY® Healthy Heart campaign, which involves activities, heart rate monitoring and education of pupils on how to keep healthy, exercise and eat properly.

“As main sponsor, we intend to pursue close engagement with the fans, including a series of competitions and offers.”

The SUBWAY® brand also supports the youth development programme at Luton Town FC and has signed a deal with Liverpool FC, becoming their Official Training Food Partner.

SUBWAY® stores offers a whole range of great tasting, healthier food choices while making a priority of reducing the business’s environmental footprint and encourage people in the local communities they serve to lead an active lifestyle.

Caley Thistle manager John Hughes and club captain Richie Foran expressed pleasure at the SUBWAY® brand joining the team.

“They’re a name everyone knows”, said Foran, ”and it’s good to be associated with a sponsor which puts an emphasis on promoting healthier and more active lifestyles – just as we do at Caley Jags.”

Subway making their second foray into Scottish Football sponsorship, the last time worked very well IMO.

SUBWAY® - Going Underground

On the plus side, logo looks nice, and they didn't even put the stoopid "eat fresh" tagline, although I suspect we are getting that bit.
