Jmothecat2
The recent change, whatever the logic, has served to completely shaft AFC. Last season we were half way up the list of seeded clubs in QR2 - having previously been unseeded at that stage, but building up some 'credit in the bank' due to successive seasons reaching QR3. Now, despite another season reaching QR3, we find ourselves unseeded in QR2, and way down the list with little prospect of that changing. What is more galling is that Sevco (who's whole European history is their tie with Progres Niedercorn) and Hibernian (with two defeats against Malmo and Brondby as their only recent history) are effectively ranked almost the same as us now. Last season we were almost double Sevco's ranking. AFC's players may enjoy their extended break - but I still think coming through 180mins in QR1 (rather than friendlies against Inverurie and St Johnstone) is the ideal preparation for QR2 and a big part of the reason we beat Groningen and Rijeka - so therefore don't have a particular good feeling about our prospects right now, especially given it'll likely be a 50% brand new team that we field. Remember Sigma Olomouc? As far as I can gather the reason is to shaft Aberdeen and teams like us. They want richer clubs from richer leagues in the group stages and knockout rounds. We are in a situation where Liverpool, a historically good team and one of the richest and best in the world, reaching a Champions League final is a surprise.

RussellAnderson
Sigma. Glorious weather all day, spent with a bunch of pals, all Dandies, playing headers and volleys. Buzzing for the evening's fitba against these European nobodies. New gaffer Mark McGhee, Dad says he was some player back in the day. Motherwell have been decent the last few years. What a day, so sunny! Dad's giving us all a lift lads, don't worry! Here, should we all do this again first day of the league? I was the only one standing there at the front of the South Stand when the final whistle went. Sigma.
DrewDon
Looking back at the team, we were fortunate to only get beaten 5-1. Aberdeen: Langfield, Mulgrew, Foster, McDonald, Considine, Kerr, Aluko (Paton 73), Young, Duff, Miller, Mackie (Maguire 60). Subs Not Used: Nelson, Crawford, Holm, Megginson, Ross. Langfield, Foster, McDonald, Considine (2009 version), Kerr, Young, Duff and Mackie in the same starting XI.

coprolite
to be fair to Mcghee, he'd only just given up on the Celtic job. He had no way of knowing that Duffman wasn't a central defender.
Dons_1988
Derek Young at right back I was late for the game and was queuing for the south to get in when I heard the back 4 had duff and young in it.I then heard we were losing. Sounds about right, I thought.

shootingboots
I was sure we took the lead! I have tried my best to erase that season from my memory though.

You would have thought Jim Leighton and other coaches at the club would have told McGhee Center half and full back options although maybe they did.

Sigma had played a round before that against Icelandic opponents (which Dingus/Leitch hadn't bothered going to watch), and in the last half hour our players were breathing out of their erse - probably exacerbated by having no clue what they were doing. McGhee's pre-season training had involved footage of Derek Young dancing around in an Austrian stream singing edelweiss - reinforcements were needed and we got Jerel Ifil..... Is that how AFC fans have to gauge it now, is it? "Hey, we might have got thrashed by Motherwell in both cups this season but ye be thankful, at least it isn't Mark McGhee..." That should be inscribed over the gate at Kingsford, what a fucking motivator that would be, eh?

If we’d just finished 6th for the 5th season in a row with no Europe or cup runs etc you may have a point with this statement. As it happens we have a manager with an outstanding win %, a 2nd place finish despite having to rebuild half the team the previous summer (fairly poorly). Prior to that we’ve had European runs with some genuinely impressive results, being allowed to actually dream of a title race, a trophy, another two cup finals, several semi finals, dishing out 5, 6 and 7 goal thrashing’s, an ability to retain management and players despite interest from bigger clubs, players who genuinely want to be here now and a raising in standards so much that bedwetters still complain in spite of all of the above. You crack on though.

We used up all our luck in the Scottish cup quarter final. We were missing missing Logan, Shinnie and Mclean in the semifinal. We finished second again despite this season being "shite" - we'll try again to win a cup next season but If you don't think we're doing well you are bonkers.
