The Famous Aberdeen - Season 2022/23

Can’t take it for granted obviously but with the player being asymptomatic and so many testing positive down south and them all being back playing now you’d hope it’s only a fairly minor distraction.

Is it just me that finds it strange that Hoban is up training? With reportedly no chance of signing? A long way from home to go and train with no chance of a contract, especially in the current circumstances

Just Derek being coy as usual. Questions would be asked if he said we were signing him. Can't get him in the door until McKenna is gone I'd presume.

I know Pittodrie is not renowned for being a leaky ship, but with Cormack seemingly quite fan-orientated, would there not be attempts to soften the blow of McKenna leaving, rather than it coming straight out of the blue?

Mcinnes was basically saying that whilst the finances are as they are we won't be signing anyone.

He re-iterated that without Hayes taking a deferral he wouldn't be here either.

He didn't speak about selling players, but clearly that could change with a significant sale like Mckenna.

No, it'll be Wednesday now. You must have blinked and missed it, apparently McKenna to Bournemouth for 3M + un-named defender in a swap!

This is unashamedly stolen from AbMad...but f**k signing up to that place again.

Over there, it's the best Aberdeen team from the last 5 years, but I think it'd be more interesting if it was the best Dons team from the last 15 years (just the player, not their performances in that period). My effort:

Lewis

McNaughton Anderson McKenna Lowe

Severin Shinnie

McGinn Christie Hayes

Rooney

That team would have won the league during the Deila years imo.

I'd go with pretty much your lineup except Maddison for Christie and McLean for Severin (if basing it purely on the quality of player rather than how the performed with us). Worth noting however that I never saw Severin play all that much as I started part time working around the beginning of the Calderwood era so sadly never made it to many games during his time.

Stretching it a little further back and I'd put Markus Heikkinen in for McKenna. Although played more in midfield than defence, he was such a good player wherever he played.

Would have loved him to stay a little longer when the team would have had more quality around him.

Tin hat on but Jack gets in there ahead of Severin IMO.

ETA on a similar note, I often wonder how the 15/16 season might have turned out had we signed Lewis a year earlier and didn't have the Danny Ward fiasco. Such a 'what if' season.
