The Famous Aberdeen - Season 2022/23

I hate being harsh on any if our players, but you'd have to be blind to see how bad overall Rubezic has been. I know he's young and it's a new league, culture etc, but leave him out for a spell then and get him up to speed. Our defence has been a nightmare in the air in almost every match, look at Hibs second goal as a guide. And the lack of urgency in our entire defence at Hibs first goal, particularly Angus MacDonald, was criminal.

More importantly, the verdict on the manager, his tactics etc?

I was giving my take on players who weren't with us in the second half of last season. Feel free to give your take on the manager, his tactics etc.

The thing that concerns me most about Rubezic is his clumsiness. I suppose the most obvious example is the Hacken penalty from midweek, but I can think of an example from more or less every game he has played for us so far. There are almost certainly some VAR officials who would have sent the referee to the monitor for the Youan foul yesterday. Even at St Mirren, moments after he was booked he took a needlessly heavy touch on halfway and frantically dived into a challenge that could easily have seen him off. It's one thing being combative, but it's actually more concerning when it seems to be a lack of control or coordination rather than deliberately going out to be a b*****d.

Saying that, playing on the right of a three clearly isn't his bag at all. He isn't quick enough or nearly good enough on the ball to do that. I think I remember Robson saying after the Livingston game that one of the reasons he liked Rubezic was that he was good with the ball at his feet, and it's safe to say I haven't seen that so far.

I had reservations right from when he was appointed to be honest.
To be fair, he pretty much forced the Board to give him the job on the back of 7 consecutive wins.

But, as good as it was from where we were, the football was pretty grim.
We rode our luck too in that run.
You do get away with long ball football IF you’re winning the majority of your games

But the same kind of football is now not winning games.
Is it 2 wins in 11 or 12?
That’s unacceptable.
Maybe teams & managers have sussed him out?

The tactics he employs are now not working.
He doesn’t seem willing to change it.

Playing 3 at the back when we KNOW teams are playing 3 up front, so we’re going man for man at the back, is suicidal.
Playing Rubezic on the right of a back 3, exposing his chronic lack of pace, is naivety, probably stupidity. Basic stuff.

His post match interviews are just a litany of nonsensical excuses. Tiredness, heat, the grass, etc.

We’ve invested about £2.5m in new players & I don’t think he’s the man to be in charge of that rebuild.

NB - Agree with your assessment of the new recruits.

I've just watched Barry Robson post match, He's in trouble.

I also watched his post match interview on Sportscene and thought that he isn't long for this job. It was actually painful to watch.

And, stating the obvious now, but I really don't think upcoming visits to Snake Mountain and Frankfurt is what he needs coming up.

I just read an interesting shout for next manager if or when the axe falls on Robson....Per-Mathias Høgmo experienced, successful and maybe attainable.

I agree about Robson, his interviews don't make sense. Before the game at the weekend he was saying how we were in a good place. The commentators were laughing about it afterwards.

He'll be gone by Xmas at the latest but I'll be surprised if he sees out the month tbh. Basic stuff on the pitch he's continually getting wrong.

I'm not surprised at all by the results to date as I fully anticipated a slow start to the season. It's usually the end of September before the players are up to speed and the team has started to gel. As I recall, Duk didn't get going until October/November of last season. Maybe not an excuse but we were also handed a tough set of fixtures to kick off the new campaign.

I'm generally quite pleased with the new players who have arrived. Rubezic aside, they've all looked very promising. Regarding Rubezic, he just needs some time out of the limelight to acclimatize himself with the game/culture in Scotland. No denying he's looked suspect at times however I'm not willing to write him off yet.

I am disappointed the club didn't manage to replace Ramadani. It's pretty poor given we had 6 weeks to replace him however we have to  move on.

An update from the club regarding Dadia, Williams and Vinny would be appreciated. Supposedly Robson is very impressed by Williams in training so his presence at the back would be a welcome boost.

We're only 4 games in. Lots of football still to be played (34 games left). The Edinburgh sides have also had a dreadful start. The International break has probably come at the right time for us. We've got a good squad of players. As we saw last season, a couple of wins can propel you up the league table.

It’s not really the results tbh. Sunday is the only really bad individual result so far this season.

The lack of any sort of real plan for either attacking or defending is the biggest worry.

This is what worries me too. Agree that on paper Sunday is the only crap result so far, but the lack of defensive shape, one-dimensional attacking and lack of tactical flexibility is going to lead to many more results of a similar ilk.

Broadly agree with @kingjoey's initial assessment of the new players too. I do think Rubezic could come good, but he's been badly overexposed so far. Needs a bit of time and stability, but the disorganisation in defence will prevent the latter.

It should have been obvious to our manager from Ruby's first training session that he's going to struggle out wide against a quick winger.

I'm sure he'll be fine if his job is to win headers and tackles whilst making short passes to more technically gifted teammates.

I really don’t get why people think he won’t see out the month.

Fans may have lost patience but I doubt he’s anywhere near that with the board.

I’ve had my doubts since his appointment but I still think it would be harsh to do it imminently.

I have major doubts with Robson but so many new players we must give him time to get it right.

I think he will see out the month as fixtures are very tough but by the end of October if results haven't improved then I can see the board sacking him. Twitter has been brutal the last few weeks.

Maybe…BUT….
The next 5 fixtures are, in the main, very challenging through September.

Hearts away - they’re shite but our record there is terrible.
Frankfurt away - could be 5+.
Ross County home - must win.
Ross County away in cup - must win.
The Rangers away - defeat

If we get papped out the Cup & do as I’m suggesting above, the fans will crank up their dissatisfaction & Cormack will be more than aware.

I don’t think Robson has what it takes to change &/or get the best out of this squad.
Poor results added to horrendous football is only going to end one way.

And it’s not knee-jerk either.
Say we only win Ross County at home, that would be 3 wins in about 18-20 games or thereabouts?
All hypothesis to be fair, but the way we’re playing, it’s extremely realistic.

And let’s be honest, Dave Cormack will be well aware of the fans thoughts.
