Hopefully the handbags over the penalty doesn't distract from the fact that Balotelli's performance was terrific, and has been in the last week. He's looked motivated, his movement has been much improved and combine that with his other attributes and you've got a player who's impossible to play against. Would be good to see him and Sturridge up front together at the weekend.

Decent-ish results for the Italian sides. Napoli are through, Inter whilst disappointed at blowing a 2 goal lead will see off Celtic, Roma although conceding an away goal will score next week and are better away from home just now, Fiorentina with a draw and away goal at Tottenham, only Torino are the real concern.

I'd expect Inter and Roma to go through with Napoli, Torino to go out on away goals and I can't call Fiorentina. Get the first goal and I'd fancy them to go through too.

Great result for Celtic all things considered, even if the Inter team is one of the worst in years. Can't imagine Inter not going through now though. Good result for Fiorentina too and should hopefully win the return leg.

Balotelli's a king at penalties. Regardless of whether Henderson/Sturridge wanted him to take it or not, he's almost guaranteed to score it. And he did. Don't see all the fuss. If he missed, that's another story.

Mario Balotelli's the best penalty taker in world football. Stopping him from taking a penalty whilst he's on the pitch would be complete and utter incompetence from the manager / captain (whoever's decision it is).

No surprise to see Liverpool's most talented player finding form and winning them games. Excellent player.

Agreed.

Daniel Sturridge's return to the side has come at the perfect time for them, following the holocaust of a season Balotelli has had.

It's a good partnership, get Sturridge to do the donkey work, and have a player of genuine talent like Balotelli be the match winner. Working well for them.

Have you got Balotelli's season stats there? Just wondering...

It's no surprise Balotelli has had his best games this season when Sturridge has played. It's really the same as last season with Sturridge and Suarez. Having a far superior threat alongside you (as Sturridge had last season and Balotelli has this) creates space and opportunity for the lesser player.

If you have a choice of whether to mark Sturridge or Balotelli, there's only one choice. You pick the superior player - which is why Sturridge playin gis a huge boost to Balotelli.
