The Arbroath Thread

The league start last year was woeful 2 points after 7 games, however it felt better due to the reasonable cup run, and ultimately having two tubs of s#ite in Hamilton and cove. I don't think there is a tub this year, thereby lies the issue, 6 wins this year ain't gonna be enough and no one truly believes where a long winning sequence will come from.

Because he was poor.

Ok but no matter how poor he was, surely it’s better to have a dedicated full back on than taking us down to 2 defenders? Again, just highlights how ridiculous the lack of defensive cover is.

I've backed DC up to now and thought he had earned the right to get us out of trouble last season, which he did. But coupled with last season and our poor cup performances (bar one game) and our poor start to the season i think we have won one competitive game in about our last 8 or 9 games which isn't on. Also the left back debacle is bordering on criminal. Thanks for the memories DC but we need new blood leading the team.

Yeah, i'll  give him that also. Hope he proves me wrong but i just have a real bad feeling about our situation.

I’ve been reticent to call for the managers head, but that is now 4 transfer windows in a row, that has been poor, I said before that I thought, the lack of a LB signing as an act of vandalism, I also find his obsession with small centre mids as baffling, tbf, we should be looking to get rid of Allan, Jacobs and one other, club has money, we need a complete “b*****d” in centre mid and left back, everyone knows this, if we do not address this, we are doomed

its win or bust for Campbell next week, anything else, he is out

If you hadn’t seen us before today you would have thought Stewart was the FB and Steele was being posted out of position

To be honest I was expecting worse today. QP have spent a lot on that squad and look like contenders again. If we can strengthen this week we could get something from the game at Gayfield.

"Spent a lot on that squad" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. Youngsters, academy players and loans - not really breaking the bank.

We do have a few new players so it was never going to click straight away. Thought he got the team just about right today, we need to see how we look at the end of the window and at least after 10/12 games before talking about changing managers etc.

Next week looking like a big game already.

He deserved the chance after last season to go again based on what he has done for us,

But the unbalanced squad, players playing out of position and most of all the performances in the games we have played says it all, yeh we have had a pretty tough start but is there anything really to be positive about?

Theres something not right behind the scenes for me too, something doesn't seem right,

It obvious, even to you, that, this argument doesn’t fly, we needed a LB, agreed, surely, the almost desire not to go for a hard tackling defensive centre mid

oh and to wait a dozen games before changing the manager, if we have a terrible start, would be an act of self harm

I was one of those who was in favour of seeing Dick let go last January, and I would also have happily seen him ride/be escorted into the sunset in the summer.  I have also been very negative about our transfer dealings.  I have been unhappy about the direction of travel for some time now.

But all that said, the mood on this thread about today was one of "we can't win, this is kind of a free hit".  We weren't expecting to win, and as it happens, it looks like we got a narrow defeat.  I didn't see the game, and I imagine many on here didn't, so I'm not sure why today changes things.   If we were going to sack the manager, we would have done it before the window opened.  Doing it now, right at the end of the window seems pointless.  So by now, he effectively has until christmas, and if I was the board, I would be preparing to offer Petrie at Montrose everything he wants.

Whilst the score ended up 2-1, it was not a narrow defeat. A draw would have been a travesty.

That said, the second half performance gave some grounds for optimism. Let's see how we get on in the rematch at the Gayf.
