All things Dundee FC

To many Jim's, Jimmy's, and James's .

Serious question, why the hell was Jimmy Boyle sacked? By all accounts, he was doing a good job?

So why has he, effectively been replaced by Jimmy Nicholl? At least McPake worked along side Boyle for a couple of years. Has he ever worked with Nicholl, does he know him, or have they even met before now?

Sacking Boyle would've also cost a bit of dosh.

Strange going ons. Honestly think Dundee have screwed this/these appointments up.

Nicholl was definitely caretaker manager of hibs while Mcpake was at the club. Think they may both have worked together with Northern Ireland too

dabs and fermers wetting themselves over mcpake. he has to start somewhere give the guy a chance. i’m glad we didn’t go for the usual dinosaurs in scottish football. hopefully strachan comes in and is a help. good luck to mcpake. mon the dee’s
Strachan is a fucking dinosaur! So is Nicholl.

Easy and cheap options that will come back to bite you. Regardless of what McPakes remit is, he'll only take orders from Strachan and/or Nicholl for so long. In his eyes, he's the manager.

What does he say roughly? I can’t get access to the video just now.

Basically a lot of people applied (43 I think he said), they whittled it down to 12 and made approaches to relevant clubs when people were under contract, at that stage a few fell through and they interviewed 6 people in the end and send letters out to the 6 they interviewed yesterday once they had confirmed McPake.

Said McPake has surrounded himself with experienced men - who he wouldn't name, as per a conversation when he took caretaker charge that he wouldn't get the job on his own, but if he could get people with some experience on board he'd have a chance. It wasn't clear if these were people employed by the club or people McPake has contacted himself.

Seems very much like what Nelms said they were trying to do with McCann - regards getting some experience in to help him - but McPake has been willing to do this where McCann was not.

Strachan will be far from a cheap appointment. You're also making a lot of assumptions.

Again, other than the papers, who are generally wrong about Dundee, there's nothing to say McPake was 1st, 2nd, 3rd or even 4th choice.

Granted, I've made a couple of assumptions, but can't really get my head around this and how it panned out. The whole process again, seemed to have been done arse for elbow. Nelms is really really shit at this part of his job that's for sure.

Imo, Goodwin would have been a cracking appointment, with or without a DoF. A couple of years under his belt already and keeping Alloa up with a bit to spare was some feat.

Are you happy with the end result?

Let’s just take a moment to appreciate how excellent it must have felt for McPake when he finally sat in the managers chair and thought to himself “that’s right, I’m running this fucking place now”

Are we only looking at guys called James on their birth certificate from now on? Jim McIntyre, Jim Goodwin, James McPake and Jimmy Nicholl.

It's an unusual strategy but by the law of averages we'll get it right eventually. Hopefully it's the latter two.
