I'm Brian
Ah, we could have but there was a small issue with certain deposits we had expected to get back. And the £800k they still allegedly owe police Scotland
Granny Danger
And the £800k they still allegedly owe police Scotland If Police Scotland think they have a legitimate claim they should raise a court action; if they don't they should stop referring to it. Ludo*1
The chances of Carmichael resigning has to be between slim and none. Imagine if he did though and SNP won the by-election. Scenes!
boabinoban
Surely the only thing he can do now is resign after losing whatever credibility he and his party had left?

Granny Danger
Carmichael should resign - his position is untenable. Mundell was Under Secreatry for State at the Scottish Office at the time - he needs to accept his share of the blame and resign too. Ian Murray told Carmichael he should do it - he cannot escape blame.

strichener
Not really sure how he can expect to brass neck this TBH. This should, at a minimum, be referred to the electoral commission.
Granny Danger
Carmichael says, 'had I still been a Government Minister I would have considered this to be a matter that required my resignation' He means as a Minister, not as an MP.
kevthedee
Forget the SNP and lib dems. Forget Alastair Carmichael the man and the MP. This was an attack,a lie and a smear on the First Minister of Scotland from a UK government minister. The UK government needs to apologise to Scotland and the FM and acknowledge what happened. This is a constitutional crisis. "Constitutional crisis" a bit ott dont you think.
1320Lichtie
"Constitutional crisis" a bit ott dont you think. 1.5 million was spent on finding this out, just think about that for a minute That's fucking insane

welshbairn
1.5 million was spent on finding this out, just think about that for a minute That's fucking insane Say they investigated for 40 hours a week for 6 weeks, that's £6250 per hour. How many people do they need on it to interview the staff at the Scottish Office and check their phone records? I'd love to see a breakdown.
