7. The Shawshank Redemption.

Seen a lot of hatred for this film in the build-up to the list and don't understand it, yeah, it's maybe not the best film ever made (Copyright: IMDb) but it's still a fantastic film and Morgan Freeman cements his name in film history as the go to narrator in films. Beautifully made from a great short story by Stephen King.

The biggest surprise to be was that this was struggling to make the list until the last 2-3 days when almost everyone that voted for it was giving it a 9 or a 10. This was the film that very nearly missed out on making the list at all, but some sure fire favourites at the last minute sealed its place at number 7 in our list.

I don't actually hate it. I found it hugely enjoyable.

I just don't get the level of praise it gets and find bits of it a bit cliched and other bits test my suspension of disbelief. Probably worth a top 40..... maybe.

So far, I have...

7 - The Shawshank Redemption ( #2 )

8 - Reservoir Dogs ( #6 )

12 - Casino ( #9 )

13 - Fargo ( #8 )

21 - Unforgiven ( #5 )

36 - The Truman Show ( #3 )

=39 - Philadelphia ( #10 )

=39 - Glengarry Glen Ross ( #4 )

Pretty sure nine of my 10 will be in there, and the other one... I just can't see it.

The captain of the guards 4th finest performance in my opinion.

1) Mr Krabs in Spongebob Squarepants

2) The Kurgan in Highlander

3) "Put your hand on that wall trooper" - Starship Troopers.

The film itself is good, great ending and the sub-story after Brooks leaves prison is pretty grim. I wouldnt go out of my way to watch it though.

I love it too, although it didn't quite make my list.

Can't understand the hate for it to be honest. I think it's people just trying to be controversial for the sake of it.

I'd also throw in Dr Neo Cortex/Uka Uka - Crash Team Racing

Forrest Gump and Shawshank were both films I enjoyed more when I was younger but now my cynical self finds them a bit too sentimental and a bit emotionally manipulative (especially in the case of Gump). Still good but don't rank on my personal list. Reservoir Dogs snuck in at 10 for me behind Jackie Brown and Pulp Fiction in a Tarantino-heavy list.

I appreciate Ludo doing all the work for this and this isnt a dig at him as most of these types of threads seem to take a long while but the question is why?! The posts themselves are hardly War & Peace so how do they take so long? I'd imagine most of the work is done to initially work out the run down but then surely the actual posting of the entries should only take a couple of minutes?

You're completely right in your assertion. It's just the mustering up of whether or not I can be bothered after a 12 hour shift. I post lots whilst I'm at work from my phone, and then when I get home I rarely can be bothered posting/have other things to do so have to cram this in between. It's not a great deal of effort, it just becomes a bit of a chore once you're well underway. I know what the number 6 entry is, but can't remember how many points it has received. Will do 6, 5 and 4 when I get home tonight.

6. The Big Lebowski.

Perhaps the most quotable film in film history? Classic comedy that has even spawned its own religion. It's a film that only gets better on second viewing. The more you watch it, the more of the subtle comedic elements you notice. Brilliant film, well deserved.
