ArabianKnight
Crowd funding is a pretty good way to raise some capital for projects if you have a decent social media reach or a huge email address book! I'm starting this topic because I've got my own crowd funding project on the go atm but I also wanted to see if any one else on Pie and Bovril had done one. Through starting my own I've noticed some projects out there that are just folk begging and don't have any rewards set for pledges, I find that a bit distasteful tbh, mines has rewards for all pledges as I think it's only fair. I've also noticed some projects out there for absolute nonsense, what's the worst P'n'Bers have seen? Here's the info on my project, I'm an artist that does stencils and other media, at the moment I'm doing alright but it certainly doesn't pay all the bills, I'm looking for a way to make my work more accessible for people so I'm raising funds to buy a wide format pro level photo printer so I can do my own prints. I'll be marketing the prints as an affordable for all type approach so people can buy them if they can't afford my canvas work. A few of the guys from here have bought work from me so I'm sure they can vouch for the standard I produce Here's the link here for anyone interested in pledging and checking out the rewards I'm offering http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/printer-perfect/? jamamafegan
Only heard of this scheme the other week there when some absolute hipster c**t decided to crowd fund money for dates. Unsure of what thread is more appropriate, this one or the hipster one. Anyway: http://metro.co.uk/2015/01/21/this-misguided-hipster-is-trying-to-crowdfund-money-for-13-dates-5030246/ What a total p***k. I'll admit that I laughed when I saw this though: http://metro.co.uk/2015/01/25/remember-tom-the-hipster-who-crowdfunded-his-dates-well-this-guy-wants-to-ruin-them-5035723/ I thought rowdfunding was for utter wanks after I heard Tom's story, but I suppose it's not so bad and more a case of guys like him giving it a bad image. It is useful for folk like me who can't raise the capital through borrowing etc. That guy though is just a total fud and deserves all that's coming to him. Njord
Thought this was going to be Dave Kings business plan for sevco. They might have actually missed a trick when they reformed. http://www.growthbusiness.co.uk/news-and-market-deals/fundraising-deals/2478407/domaine-chanzy-first-company-to-use-crowdfunding-as-part-of-ipo.thtml The first IPO on the AIM has been done with crowd funding. They could have fleeced even more from ra bearz. (And it is a French wine producer, which is what Chuckles is now ....hhmmmmmm)
Adam
In my experience, crowd funding isn't really seen as a viable means of raising funds for a new project or service. You occasionally see an idea take off and smash the set target, but these are few and far between. Anytime I've worked with someone who has used crowd funding to raise capital for an idea, they admit the majority of the money they received has come from friends and family. That's normally the case that most of the funding comes from friends and family, unless you contact the press and you have an amazing idea to pitch to them it won't really take off. Out of my 16/17 backers so far I only know 12 of them.
Bert Raccoon
Saw a guy trying to raise the money to build Michael ' s house from GTA V. His house is lovely and all but it's just a house. If the guy was going to build the Thundercats layer I may have been interested.
