FlyerTon
What will they shut down next in Scotland? A great day and also a not so great day for Scotland this morning. I have a feeling a lot of 'no' voters to independence voted SNP yesterday and will do so again in 5 years to help keep the Tories in power for a 'long' time. MassiveFanDan
1986 would've been the perfect year to become an independent state, after securing a devolved Parliament in 1979. But we are where we are. Thanks to Labour.
SodjesSixteenIncher
Would've been nice to have these numbers to help punt the Tories but ultimately, England has chosen Tory and mathematically there's nowt we can do about it. What couldn't be clearer is that Scotland and England have massively different ideas, priorities and beliefs. Proud as f**k about what's happened in our country. FlyerTon
The English right wing press played the 'vote Labour get SNP' card and it has worked. If things stay the same, we can expect the same in another 5 years time.
TapothehullDee
SNP seats irrelevant if Tories get a majority, buffoons must have realised the less Labour seats, the more chance of a Tory government. Vote tartan Tories, get real Tories. It was so obvious.

The conservatives played the labour/snp card very well, they wanted to use the scare stories about snp power over a labour goverment and it looks like it has worked for them. jacobsladder
The danger now is if the Tories get the majority as it appears they will based mainly on gains in England can they just say to Scotland bugger off your vote is not important we got in anyway ? Granny Danger
People can say we've been here before but in honesty the contrast has NEVER been as sharp as this. The SNP were the only major party to campaign on an anti-austerity platform and recieved 50% of the vote. The party that looks like it may win an overall majority in the UK is the party promising the biggest cuts. I don't know how this will play out but if the Tory position is simply 'f**k the Jocks' there will be stormy days ahead.

SodjesSixteenIncher
Since the #voteSNPgetTories argument was utterly obliterated on any logical or mathematical basis at 22.01, it looks like we're on to phase two of blaming the SNP for everything. Now poor wee Labour has been denied office because Scotland pure trolled England and that. So let me get me get my head around this one. The Tories have succesfully won by scaring the living shit out of England about Scotland having any influence. And this is our fault for the polls showing us potentially having some influence? Well sorry. Hope Scotland learns it's lesson from now on and pipes down from now on. Ya Bezzer!
Lot of talk about the SNP scaring the English but that ignores an important fact - Ed Miliband was never a credible candidate for PM. If you think he could ever have won this election then you are completely deluded. For me, and from a Scottish perspective, the last Labour government was full of so many vile characters - John Reid, Alastair Campbell, Peter Mandelson, George Robertson, David Blunkett, John Prescott, Helen Liddell etc, etc, and the vilest one of all, Tony Blair, it completely exploded the distinctiion that the Labour party were the 'good' party and the Conservatives were the 'bad' party. Scots were left with two bad lots to vote for at Westminster elections or to simply turn their back on the whole freak show by voting SNP. And as horrid as the Conservatives were through the 1980's they never committed a moral crime quite as abject as the Iraq War. The Labour parties campaign of lies and unflinching support of this war must surely have gravely damaged the very ethos behind the party. Then there was the Labour parties schmoozing with big business and bailing out the banks, it's acceleration of privitization in the NHS, making a total arse of the economy pursuing near identical policies to the Conservatives, arguing against free tution, council tax freezes and for benefit cuts and then standing four square with the Tories in the referendum with The Pledge. Combine that with the expenses scandal and a general apathy towards Westminster across the country but especially in Scotland, where the whole rejuvenation of Scottish politics is centered around the Scottish Parliament, and you have a situation now where many people, maybe the vast majority simply aren't interested in Westminster politics any more. There are going to be huge changes now. The political situation is untenable and the entire political constitution of the United Kingdom will have to be recast if the UK has any united future.
