Yet another US shooting

Maybe those critical of BLM could suggest an alternative strategy to address the racial discrimination in the U.S.; one that will actually have an impact.  Unless, of course, they think that there's no real problem that needs addressing.

Well I suppose the only way to demonstrate once and for all that the USA is a tolerant country where an American is - by and large - not judged by the colour of their skin but by their talent and actions would be if what remains the most powerful nation on earth were to do the unthinkable and elect a black president ... oh wait!

I'm not quite sure what point you're trying to make.  It looks like you're suggesting that because the U.S. Elected a black president then it's a tolerant country and there's no race problem.  You're not seriously suggesting that are you?

It's a difficult one right enough, but it's exacerbated by the prevailing narrative that the overwhelming majority of African-Americans live an existence marred by all-pervasive racism, violence and poverty.

While in America a few years ago we were invited to a couple of places in the extensive middle-class black suburbs of Virginia, where the people lived exactly the same quiet and fairly prosperous lives as their white counterparts. I imagine there are more black people throughout America leading lives like that than there are living the cliched 'hood life.

There's still work to be done - the fact that the two races tend to live more or less separately is proof of that, but although there's still a long way to go, there's probably less racism in the States now than there ever has been.

Unfortunately in the States there seems to be a section of the poor urban black community that blame all their failures squarely on white people, instead of the self-perpetuating violence, drugs and lack of education that are really to blame, in much the same manner that a section of the poor rural white community blames their failures squarely on non-white people, instead of more or less the same reasons which blight their lives.

Read a piece earlier by a black professor who, with a team of his students, researched a huge number of incidents in the US. What he found was blacks were about 20% more likely to be treated violently by the police - cuffed, thrown to the ground, restrained etc.

However, he found that blacks were shot in exactly the same proportion as whites. That is, you are no more likely to be shot if you're black than white.

What needs to be done GD? Investigate why gang culture perpetuates and find out why 90% of black deaths are at the hands of other black people. That's a similar proportion to black murders in the UK, so you can't point to a history of segregation, KKK, slavery etc. Why are some black communities so incredibly violent?

Sister of the killed thug makes a very sensible appeal for the locals to stop destroying their own community. Before then suggesting they burn down the suburbs instead, meaning Whitieville.

There's currently more open racism against white people in the US than anyone, but that's not the kind of racism you and your 'Progressive' kin will acknowledge and instead propagate, so...

Alternative strategy would first require a proper look at the actual level of discrimination versus the narrative that it's all pervasive, and then to look at the causes honestly rather than shutting down discussion with rioting and the slavery trump card at every turn. Taking personal responsibility rather than blanket blaming whitie for everything would follow. For example, not throwing wobblies when people present inconvenient statistics.

Then and only then can things start to improve. I'd go hard after the idiotic drug war that puts many young black boys on the road to prison, which leads to job/career destruction (permanent record) and more criminal activity, and ultimately fatherless boys who end up on the road to prison...

Victimhood narratives are a powerful and money-spinning thing though, so not sure any of this will happen any time soon.

No, I'm suggesting the lazy excuses have gone for the reasons for lack of advancement being down to race & Americans need to face the cold, hard truth that their inequality is down to a rigged political and economic system ensuring a superclass gets richer and an underclass of all colours gets progressively poorer (both financially and in terms of opportunities).

But since your average American of all races has the attention span of a gnat unable to focus on mildly complex concepts, they are doomed it seems to reducing matters to "is it coz I is black", "white privilege" and "the Jews" - the latter one of Black Lives Matters latest targets to the surprise of no one familiar with Nation of Islam & their fellow travellers.

It's this tendency to oversimplify that's led to the disgrace that is the rise of Trump, although there is a comfort in that by bringing what was previously the currency of the bar room bore into every US sitting room TV, people have been shown just what manner of moron believes in that crap and all polls are saying will reject by a record margin come November. Trump is proving to be America's unintentional Alf Garnett, long after Archie Bunker and Ralph Kane have faded from the public memory.

According to some recent research 3% of Americans own 50% of the guns

There's a 30 minute video on that link that starts off with saying that half a million Americans have been killed by gunshot since 2000. Mind boggling.

Bit misleading stat as it includes suicide, but still about 1 in 30,000 people per year for just homicides.

Anyway, interesting doc, always good to get the opinions and perspectives from the horses mouth. Photographer has regressed though, almost all shite portraits.

There's likely to be more spontaneous drunken suicides, and domestic murders, if there's a gun lying about.

Seems likely, wonder if there's stats on how big a difference it makes overall.

Try saying that to the Charlotte masses just now.

Shows just how f***ed the states are when it's happening so often that it takes over two days for a bump, highlighting the third black guy killed by US in a week which sparks a high profile official state of emergency in North Carolina.

'Murica.

Country is fucked. Tensions are so high at the moment that any police shooting of a black person goes immediately to protests/riots. Regardless of it being justified or not, been some video's shown too showing a group of black people hunting down and kicking the shit out of this white guy, its claimed to have come from Charlotte, but there's no clear evidence on the video to say it was, it all happens in a car parking lot and you cant see anything to identify the place.

Some people are trying to place the blame on Obama, but all of this stuff has been brewing for a long time now and honestly i dont see a way out at this point.

He wouldn't batter somebody in a car park, would he?
