Except that all he said in the article was that anyone would be available for selection, regardless of age. He didn't say he'd be sticking with anyone.

"They are all positive and I don't see why not," said Strachan on retaining experienced members of his squad.

eta not wanting to start the age debate, just posting the article in which he talks about not changing the system and sticking with experience.

I'd agree, however...

As I've indicated before, the problem is that literally no-one plays B internationals any more... There is a structured tournament, called the International Challenge Trophy, but it has an U23s limit plus probably lacks the quality required (given some of the stronger countries like Italy, England and Turkey restrict their selections to domestic or lower-league players).

I'm also unsure what the situation is with call-ups for B internationals... Can you compel a player to attend a B call-up, or his club to release him? What officially distinguishes B internationals from full internationals counting for ranking points?

Celtic's lineup vs Ajax tonight was close to being a Scotland B side. From what I witnessed:

Gordon: hard to say whether it's the shitey defending, but he seems to have lost his air of authority

Tierney: excellent, again. Stopped just about every ball that came his way and distributed well

MacGregor: lively and scored but faded badly

Mackay-Steven: passenger, showed nothing. Did a double stepover when in acres of space against nobody and gave the ball away

Armstrong: looked a shadow of the player from last season. Guilty of hiding and poor awareness

Forrest: excellent. Defensive side of the game was top notch and he showed a lot more composure and intelligence in his attacking

Allan: sublimely weighted passes in for Griffiths and looked a cut above until he dithered on the ball and lost possession for Ajax's second

Griffiths: very poor. Had 4 great chances and fluffed every one of them. I fear he's too much of a 'needs 6 chances to score' type (at European/international level).

ETA: most interesting of all was Charlie mulgrew who walked up the tunnel after Ajax scored their 2nd...

Snodgrass got some minutes under his belt against City at the Ethiad last night while Robertson scored Hull's consolation with a neat wee chip

Robertsons goal was very very very dece especially considering it was the 91st minute!!

Someone a while back on this thread said football is `cyclical` .... not in Scotland it isn`t. International team performance (wins, draws, goals for and against) has been in consistent decline since 1920. Before WW1, hardly anyone could beat us ... now almost everyone can. We have recently been ranked 52 by FIFA, which means 29 UEFA members are above us ... only 24 to go to reach rock bottom. (in `performance` we count only competitive matches, not friendlies arranged to boost the managers records).

This is the result of two important factors ... the players you produce ... and the players other countries produce. And that is where the above ranking is probably away too high ... because, possibly, 40 UEFA members are producing better players than us, while there is no sign of any improvements from SFA ... who, of course, haven`t organised anything since 1872.

The people responsible for `producing` players in Scotland currently have the weakest clubs (on average) and competitions in Europe ...so little chance they`ll get the training and experience they need to match Europe.... another reason it is never cyclical. We were still reasonably strong between the wars due to weaker opposition and not too many opponents. We produced strongly after WW2 up until around 1960, due to the very strong Junior system, which most players went through, plus the SFL reserve system. The latter two no longer exist and so we trail very badly in opportunities for young people to access reasonable standards.

Portugal lost on pens to Sweden in 2015 UEFA u-21 final ... where we are unlikely ever to be ... and that has to be the result of much, much stronger club systems and competition. In Scotland`s top three levels there are 32 clubs which rarely change and are under little pressure. In Sweden there are 60 clubs in top three levels ... in Portugal, double that, four times what we have. These systems provide far, far greater opportunity to develop players ... so, for the future, their position must get better ... while ours gets worse.

With the `pyramid` campaign, we managed to get SJFA re-organisation, a `community club` building programme of sorts, widening of the Scottish Cup (slightly) and a `connection` from league to non-league. Plainly, this piddly stuff won`t go nearly far enough. Since the Chester report in 1968, I have consistently called for legislation to impose stronger club standards, plus much greater competition .. a huge widening of the `pyramid` and access for young people. That is the ONLY way Scotland can ever recover its post war production level. And, since there is absolutely no chance of SFA and SPFL doing that .. it falls to Scottish Government, who are supposed to be `responsible` for Sport.

Have you sorted out your shitey website yet?
