McCall has done a great job but the balance of his squad has been lacking from early on. Most of the time I think he'd have got away with it but this recent run of injuries is extreme. Four out of the five players injured have a lot of prescence in addition to ability and now the balance has tipped far too much towards a nice on the ball type that doesnt turn up every week. The post match interview was very worrying having no physio and no inclination of the actual condition of the injured players. Junior teams have physios , we have bodog cash so how the feck is this even allowed to be an issue at this level beats me. It would appear no cooincidence the start of our troubles came at the same time as our injuries so if this problem isn't sorted asap then lot of the good work McCall has achieved will unravell very quickly indeed. Will Stevo also want to stay on for the rest of the season if this isn't the story he signed up to?

Stevo, going by his 2 performances so far, would be behind Doc, Adams and Gilmour for the 2 centre mid positions. He has another 2 or 3 games to prove his wages are worth the investment for the remainder of the season.

The reaction of Cowden's right back would suggest he did play the boy on at the opening goal..

You're right. Didn't see that at the time. Got to give the linesman the benefit of the doubt then.

We really could be doing with another centre back. Pat will struggle on Saturday I'm afraid to say. He just isn't mobile enough.

What chance do we have of keeping Murdoch and Smith?

This even junior teams have physios is a red herring. Lots of junior teams struggle for physios and the higher up in the structure you are the more qualified they have to be. There is a lot of competition for physios - last season Cowden had 3 - one went to Hearts and getting a replacement wasn't easy plus the cost of a physio keeps increasing.

Enjoyed the highlights although a number of Cowden efforts are excluded including Spence crashing his shot against the bar and the header from the rebound which Fleming saved.

I would say right now his wages are well worth the investment with the injury list we have. Only saw the Brechin game which he didn't look fit but some of his quick passing cut them open and looked way different to anything you see at this level. If everyone back available for selection I would have him out wide left with Doc and Adams in the middle.

At least the Ayr fans didn't blame the pitch, unlike some others.

That's because the pitch was alright last night, it was in much poorer condition when we played, I'm still really unsure as to why Cowdenbeath fans get so upset about it.

Firstly, no complaint about the result and the better team on the night deservedly won.

Cowden looked sharp and had pace - obviously never see them unless we play them so cannot tell if this is going to be the norm for them now for the rest of the season or a purple patch they are going through. Clearly though they have improved big time since we pumped them at our place. Essentially they now look well organised, but still like a team that will have to outscore their opponents every week which is a hard act to pull off. If they tighten up at the back they could still be top four.

Equally Cowden fans don't see us either so will tend to underestimate how below par that performance was for us - we flattered you even though you did play well, but the result never looked in doubt to be honest. Even when we took it back to 3-2 I said to the Mrs that it was more likely that we concede a fourth than score another - as events proved.

Don't have much time for the criticism of our defense. Donald is no FB as last season proved but was filling in. He was our main threat going forward in the second half once he was moved to his preferred position out on the wing. Devlin had his second poor game in a row but has been otherwise excellent all season and has suddenly not become a poor defender. No, the defense was exposed solely due to our midfield not competing and providing no protection. We can play without two from three of Adams, Gilly and Doc but not all three. Forrest allowed them to get in behind us all evening - he's a lovely skillful player but still has much to learn positionally. Stevo is not match fit, produced some nice passes but is not the type of defensive midfielder we are missing currently. Robbie ran around like a headless chicken but mainly in trying to do the jobs of two men on his own.

Pass marks to our front men, who spent far too long isolated due to our midfield problems, to Donald and Fleming second half but otherwise dire stuff. Fleming needs to come off his line more and learn how to deflect shots into less dangerous areas with his hand shape for me but a super shot stopper - it is just that is not enough. We need to play a specialist at left back and at holding midfielder, out of the U20's if necessary, otherwise I can't see us taking anything at Stranraer on Saturday.

Every junior game I've ever attended has physios present and even low level rugby teams with not much cashflow employ them also. We also don't need a full time physio as we have one who is unavailable at the minute but no reason why someone else can't help out with assessment and rehab of injured players. I'm still amazed any team who are competing at the top of a professional league with an injury list doesn't have a physio to assist.

A man with a bag and a sponge isn't necessarily a real physio - it's easy telling others how easy it is to get a physio but they are not just on tap and a licensed SFA club at bronze level needs to meet a higher standard in terms of a physios qualifications than junior clubs and probably lower league rugby clubs

A lot of the physios who work in junior football and rugby clubs work full time during the week within the NHS believe it or not as physios dealing with these very sorts of injuries. Are these type of people suitably qualified in your opinion or would they have to study the wee red book first? If so I know quite a few that are very happy to earn extra cash in the private industry and finding one somewhere as a short term measure shouldn't be a problem for a club at the level of Ayr United. I can also see why someone wouldn't fancy spending every second week inside Central Park despite being paid to be fair.

Yid , goin by watchin Lugar as a local and fan and hearin a few people at youth games , the best sittin midfielder in the youths is the lad McCready . Watched him at Lugar and appears to be playin well at the youths . Him or Wardrop could be the two youths mentioned . Two who will put themselves about as well .

the talk on the terrace suggests january could be our biggest hurdle to get in the play offs, unless we have some good signings lined up?

Keep Murdoch, Smith and Kerr would be a good start. Need a centre-half and possibly a reserve keeper if Nish doesn't rate Hunter.

So pleased to see the result but I am worried now that my legend may leave Cowden for higher league's club if his team plays very well. Cowdenbeath is nice small club and very easy to get for me...
