That sounds like the peak time fare from Crossmyloof. Pollokshaws East has options to avoid Glasgow and change at Newton however which might explain the lower fares too.
10menwent2mow
I'm having a few days in Glasgow in February and am heading through to Musselburgh for the racing on a Sunday. Queen St to Wallyford return is £26.30. Queen St to Waverley £14.20 return and Waverley to Wallyford £4.30 return. Absolute robbing b*****ds

It just doesn’t make any sense considering Crossmyloof to Central is one stop and takes 6 minutes, Pollokshaws East to central is 4 stops and takes twice as long. You’d need to get a third train if you went to Newton.

Shawlands, 1 stop close to Glasgow is £8.70. Clearly a hangover from when you could change at Newton. Also it's £9.10 from Pollokshaws West to Wishaw which is like 10 mins walk from Shaws East. Fares don't make a lot of sense in Glasgow suburbs. Edited January 13, 2022 by flyingscot
smpar
Any chance of Scotrail dropping the alcohol ban anytime soon? I’m sure they used social distancing as the main reason for introducing it, so now that that’s been relaxed, train cans should make a return. I’m sure they will for the rugby anyway.

I suspect they might keep it so they can deal more easily with annoying drunken arseholes. I've never had a problem with a can on the table even when they're checking tickets. -

Sherrif John Bunnell
There's still no sign of the catering trollies being brought back, so I imagine bevvy won't be allowed until at least then. Did ScotRail just pay off the catering staff once furlough ended, or have they been redeployed elsewhere?

jamamafegan
When the anti-alcohol Scottish Government gets full control of Scotrail I wouldn’t be surprised if they kept the ban in place.
gannonball
You can’t re-introduce it as long as masks are still mandatory tbh Edited January 26, 2022 by gannonball
invergowrie arab
While they're at it they can bring advanced tickets back. I'm looking at 42 quid for a return to Glasgow for a journey that usually costs me about 20.
