Roll forward a few years where the government are actively encouraging folk to have kids as we have a pension crisis, lack of working age population and still no HGV drivers.

The government have not a single idea of the real world. Go take a look at the stv interview from today about the £20 and you can see in Johnsons face he has no concept of real world money.

Just say there was a mass movement, what could it accomplish? Short of an armed takeover and ruling by coercion, the best outcome would be to force an election. Against Keith. Pyrrhic as f**k.

It's an economic and demographic problem. A lot of pensions need funded.

I dont think it solves the pension issue, it just kicks the can further down the road

“Woke” and its variations are slowly replacing “socialism” as the right wings go to ‘stuff I don’t like’ word.
The Right have been quite good over time at doing this, weaponising terms in the mainstream that pose threats to their odious shitebag views.

It's much easier to use as a dismissive insult than "socialist", which can be broadly defined in terms that most people understand here.

I don't get the impression that most of the people tossing words like "woke" around have much of an idea what it means, other than "someone who publicly disagrees with my right-wing views".

The danger (for normal folk) is that “woke” is bound up with race in a way “socialist” (boo! Be scared!) was not. By demonising folk as “woke”, the alt-right are successfully enabling racism by suggesting that ethnic minorities and their supporters are a viable target. I don’t think I’m exaggerating by saying that “woke” is the 21st-century version of “n-word-lover”. It’s fucking insidious and terrifying.

Don't mind folk just pointing at things they don't like and using woke as a pejorative.

It makes it easier to identify dribbling simpletons with unpleasant right wing views.

I dunno, do we really need it when people still use the term ‘snowflake’ unironically? Seems like overkill having both

Marxist was the Tory insult of choice for a while, but it looks like woke is here to stay.

"Marxist" is such an odd insult. I see that's occasionally being thrown at Biden in the US, which is hilarious.

You think they'd head straight for "Stalinist". Most folk would agree that he was a c**t.

Is it? I got the impression it was broader than that; more of a replacement for "virtue signaller".

Because, as you'll know, we all secretly hold their abhorrent views, but don't want to admit it.

You would absolutely pish yourself laughing if someone accused you of being "woke" in real life.

It tends to get bound up with people who dare to support BLM. Case in point, apparently barely a few minutes into Jeremy Vine’s alt-right love-in this morning, far-right gobshite Angela Epstein turned a discussion of Sarah Everard’s horrific murder into an attack on the woke polis daring to take the knee. Utterly irrelevant, you might think - until you realise what she was really saying. As the same show taught us last week, tolerance is bad and “minorities in every area need squashed” (this from another regular).

I dunno, they actually tried to set up a specifically 'anti woke' tv channel, unfortunately for them, it's a rolling bin fire.

The culture wars are and will continue to be central to the right's political projects. It will be used to divert attention from the government's increasing authoritarianism and clown shoes performances and used to silence the controlled opposition.

Big fan personally, as I've been massively prejudiced against Ukraine since the 2006 World Cup.

"liberal" as an insult, especially in murica, has always struck me as strange; liberal pretty much means you're in favour of trying to make progressive, forward thinking decisions doesnt it?? the dictionary definition certainly suggests so when i looked it up, so why is it seen as a massive insult?

Maybe in america its some kind of "them liberals can take my .50 cal murderrifle from me over my COLD DEAD HANDS" thing, idk.
