BBC reporting that the wee man will make a statement. They say outside Downing Street but I bet he's standing in Downing Street when he makes it.

Can’t wait to have to tell my Lib Dem neighbours to stop giving me their fucking leaflets again.

Lib Dems will probably do very shit in this election due to Labour shifting rightwards, square onto the Lib Dems' ground. Greens overtaking them as the third party (in England and Wales) would be great. I've not looked at any polling though, no idea how improbable that is.

I’m in Edinburgh West, so they’ll win here irrespective of anything else. They could put forward a literal piece of shit in a suit* for election and they’d win here.

I would absolutely love them to be decimated electorally though.

Why d'you think they're so popular in Edinburgh West?

I don’t really know, but my opinion is that it’s because the area is packed with middle class liberals who don’t want to vote Tory but are essentially Tories.

Place is full of well off folk who are natural Tories but don't want to be seen to be Tories.

Who was it on here who said 'A Lib Dem is someone who hasn't the heart to vote Tory but is delighted others do'? It has always stuck with me!

Sunak must just fancy a summer in California at this rate.

I reckon he's going to call an election so that he doesn't have to identify funding for Waspie women, the post office scandal and the contaminated blood victims.

I've seen the following opinion before too, no idea if its accurate but it at least seems plausible:

The Lib Dems will not ever "win" an election and become the government. Not just that they can't but they also don't want to. Aiming for government would mean having a national strategy - a clearly defined ideological position. It's precisely because the Lib Dems don't have to do that which instead allows individual candidates to be whatever they think will appeal best to local voters in any given seat.

Edit: You can try to collect the NIMBY vote, something Lib Dems are famous for, safe in the knowledge anything you block will never hamper your party's wider programme because they'll never be the government.

I think there was a two Ronnies sketch along the lines of 95%of voters would vote Liberal if they thought they'd get in.
